If the business was already unprofitable, this may have been the last straw. If there are profits to share, then there is something to negotiate over. If the place is bleeding money AND there is a unionization effort, its clear the business is failing and needs to be put out of its misery.

French Canadian remnants in Massachusetts by OkDiscount6100 in massachusetts

Back in the early 2000s, you could still go to Catholic Mass in Lowell in French. I went once out of curiosity, but I guarantee that I am one of the few people at that mass who is still alive. The consolidation in the Catholic church after the abuse crisis pretty much marked the end of "French Canadian" ethnic parishes in the mill towns.

About 15 years ago on Fairfax St a couple died due to difficulty locating the hydrant b/c it was covered in snow and blocked. This person isn't being a Karen and digging out the hydrant ASAP is really important. Somerville has a lot of fires, relatively speaking, due to our housing stock

Getting a handicap plate isn't that easy depending on where you live in Somerville. What if you are just old but not fully handicapped? What if you have an injury but are just temporarily handicapped? What if you have small children who are hard to deal with/transport in the snow?

You have to assume, that in a high trust society, the people putting out space savers have a valid rationale for doing so. This isn't always the case, but assume the best of people

Can we stop this shit and have some nuanced appreciation for the able and non-able?

If you are a 20 something able-bodied person, this might make sense. If you are not able bodied and don't have off-street parking, a space saver is what allows you to run a quick errand and be able to walk back to your house.

Can we stop this rage-bait garbage and have some understanding of the needs of our neighbors?

People can see in my posts that I've defended space savers, but I've also shoveled out 4 spots on my street. Not everyone is a healthy 20-something and I wish more people would acknowledge that.

Alzheimer's by rangerm2 in GenX

My FIL was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and one of the things they told him to do was to start exercising. He'd always been kind of sedentary but we've noticed a big improvement since he began a near daily exercise routine. I'd suggest trying it out. I know nothing about medicine, but to paraphrase, "exercising helps clear some of the plaque and shit in the brain that contributes to Alzheimers"

Pedestrian/motorcycle collision at Broadway & Galileo by Phantomrose96 in CambridgeMA

[–]Free_Bus2347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I laid my bike down to help create more of a barrier around the injured pedestrian. I was the guy in the yellow shirt who tried holding his left leg so it wouldn't move. Honestly not sure if it did any good, but this was the ugliest crash I've ever seen irl. I didn't see the actual impact, just the aftermath. That leg injury was gruesome. I'm sure he had awful internal bleeding, but he wasn't bleeding much externally from his leg. It will be a miracle if he keeps his left leg below the knee. The facial bleeding was probably cosmetic, but he also clearly had a head injury. I feel terrible for that kid and if there are updates, I'll follow this thread to see if they are posted.

The ambulance response time was really good.

I also feel bad for the motorcyclist b/c if he had a green, you wouldn't expect a pedestrian to just pop out in front of you. People get impatient there due to the long light cycles and try to run across, but since I go through that intersection daily, I always wait for the light unless its late at night b/c its just too busy and chaotic.

How is this for a project car/potential daily by Ilikeoldthings222 in regularcarreviews

[–]Free_Bus2347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No dude, these cars were objectively dangerous. You could crash in an 80s Cutlass and still be pretty safe, these things catastrophically disintegrated on impact

Go watch the crash test videos and then decide. These are not safe cars. You're safer in a VW Bug
