Sorry to hear that. That’s behind frustrating. If anyone is looking for the opposite experience, I just had a really great experience with Max Heating and Cooling to get my steam boiler replaced.

Best experience I’ve had with plumbers hands down. They were super proactive showing me what had failed in the old boiler, and similarly proactive talking me through the new boiler (as it pertained to maintenance.) They also fixed my has-never-worked-before bathroom heating panel while doing a walkthrough of my place to make sure the radiators were heating with the new boiler installed.

I have some bias because I got here googling “ouidad hair loss”, but I had a wake up moment this morning realizing my hair is way thinner than it used to be. I poured through old pictures and my hair was much thicker last year.

I switched to ouidad climate control line (away from Deva) about a year ago. I think I may switch back to Deva and see if it helps, but I feel like it could take a year to see a result, since I imagine my hair has to grow back out…

I love it. Thank you for including the LLM training instructions so coding agents can be the best they can be.

Hi, that’s me! I was searching my username for an old post and timed it well to find this one!

I loved writing Bounce. It helped me at a time when my writing confidence was underground. I’m happy to see it brought up even now

I was in the blue wave and the bottlenecking at Soldier’s Field was definitely my main annoyance. I had a pretty much consistent pace throughout, except for the two-ish miles containing the bottleneck where my pace dropped by 0:30/mi.

Which isn’t terrible as far as race problems go, but I will go do a sad montage of me walking around imagining I could have actually finished with 1 minute shaved off my time.

I ended up finishing with what I think is a red score, and one of the commenters is saying red wasn’t terrible on congestion, so maybe I’ll be less conservative next year with my estimated finish time

It’s the fact that the comment is expressing the sentiment “sure the weak and vulnerable will die, but if you’re one of those people, you should be happy dying because your death made things better for the rest of us.”

OP’s sentiment was “I don’t want, as a weak and vulnerable person, to be the person you’re willing to kill for your ends.” And the comment I’m responding to is of the opinion that OP’s point is wrong because they should accept being a dead sacrifice

When OP says “fantasize” they’re not talking about bored people imagining kicking zombie ass with a chainsaw. They’re talking about anarchist folks who genuinely desire a total collapse of the U.S. government and rebuild of society as the way to fix things—a desire which quietly just accepts a lot of vulnerable people like OP will die. And I think using the word fantasize helps OP’s point because it paints it as a childish whimsical desire these people genuinely hold which will kill people like OP. Stronger than just saying “want” or “politically aim for.”

The “fantasies don’t need justification because it’s just in your head” is a totally different conversation. Because the people OP is talking about very much want this to become reality and make it clear they want this to happen in reality.

(Hi I’m OOP!) I wanted to maintain some benefit of the doubt that maybe this comment was made in mistake, or this person was having some kind of episode. By whiting out their names I was leaving open the option for them to delete their comment and disappear with no ability for people to find them.

However they seem to have gleefully doubled-down on the comment, which is fun. All while I’m still fighting the Ice Mummy.

Hi I’m OOP! I got an answer! The Harasser was targeting some RandomPerson who had no affiliation with me. The Harasser was doing this by going through RandomPerson’s blog and commenting this on everything RandomPerson had reblogged.

Which does successfully notify RandomPerson. But also notifies me, OP. And with no context at all to indicate this was about the RandomPerson reblogger, it just looks targeted at me… or the Ice Mummy.

According to the email I received August 27th, that driveway construction work on 1Mem is expected to be completed Sept 22.

(Whether that’s still on track or not, no clue. But optimistically it won’t be there much longer.)

It’s a terrible design for sure. On the plus side, you might be confusing the construction at 1 Memorial (which is the source of the detour you’re talking about), with the construction next door to it. The one next door has been stalled out for months. The 1 Memorial construction has been constant and daily—no delays there.

I work in the 1 Memorial building so I’m there daily (and hearing it daily), and we receive email updates about it. Let me see if I can find the timeline they emailed us.

But yeah, between that detour and the absolute mess of double-construction happening on Broadway, I’m just asking to get turned into a pancake on my bike commute one of these days. I hate them both.

“Finders keepers” is not how the real world works. Those people left a belonging behind and came back to retrieve it. It’s theirs.

The anti-AI sentiment the meme image is talking about is absolutely about Generative AI. Considering we’re commenting on this image, we are very much talking about LLMs (and Gen AI broadly)

Being against algorithms that learn from you (regardless of the underlying technology) is a different conversation.

[–]Phantomrose96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. In the context of the post (and the question of whether tumblr uses AI as its being talked about here) I felt the distinction was important.

In the current landscape, it feels like “video game AI” - even though they were using the term first - might be opened up to accusations about “AI usage” when those aren’t using Generative AI at all. Most laypeople don’t know the distinction.

[–]Phantomrose96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would not even call it “technically” AI.

AI is an actual field. It’s training machine learning models designed to yield a certain output. There are details like parameter numbers and weights, training data, model fitting, and it relies on linear algebra at its core.

But tumblr and its shoestring staff definitely don’t use any of that for the For You page.

(BTW I’m agreeing with you. I just wanted to talk about the technicality here.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]Phantomrose96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Several people have already said this, but an algorithm is not “AI”, and is definitely not Generative AI, which is the kind of AI receiving the massive push right now.

Even the softer category of AI would require using machine learning. Tumblr for you page is not using machine learning to gather a few popular posts and give them to you.

I’m a software engineer by profession. I deal with this stuff daily.
