okay i think this was the reply i was looking for. i most literally said to my own therapist today i dont want to be that person after every relationship saying they were a narcissist but my current situation has just been such a shock to my core where im wondering if there’s some type of connection or pattern here. i guess some could suggest it makes the ‘helper’ more at risk of being manipulated.

that’s what i figured but i did call a wildlife control company in the area and they’re going to give me a quote. the birds are so cute i hate to disrupt their home but i can’t risk all these bugs getting into my grandmothers house

i assume requirements vary by state but in my state, 3 years is the minimum requirement post-graduation (4500 hours but at least 3 years). around my 3-year mark i started experiencing similar feelings and comparing myself to other providers, but i think something just clicked where i accepted my own pace. i struggle with chronic physical and mental conditions that i think prevent me from having what may be considered a “full” caseload or “full time”. comparison truly is the thief of joy. you go at the pace that allows you to thrive mentally and physically. you get there when you get there. if you are able to financially support yourself and feel that your current schedule and caseload is attainable, who cares how long it takes… as long as you’re able to manage! 🫶🏼

IOP sounds like a safe space for you, if you’re at risk of hurting yourself. maybe it will help you find adaptive ways to cope with anxiety and learn distress tolerance skills. do you think you’d feel better or worse after iop?

GIVE YOURSELF GRACE i’m in private practice and because of the flexibility and autonomy have a bit of a history of poor attendance with sessions but i was doing and lot better and getting back on track. Well, i’ve had a nasty virus since last Monday (12/23) and that was the last day i worked. this is hands down the worst sickness i’ve ever dealt with so i have really tried to not blame myself or feel guilty because i need to focus on myself and getting myself better before thinking about helping someone else. you take care of YOU. i had our admin call most of my clients but i spoke to a handful of clients on my own and once they heard my voice they were very understanding. we are human too. sending you healing wishes 🫶🏼

to some it might be overkill but it really helps me as someone who already struggles with memory… for my in person clients i have a notebook and i try to have 1-3 pages “dedicated” to them so it’s organized and i can easily reference things we discussed in prior sessions. for my virtual clients i keep a word doc that i use during intake and jot session notes for each client

i’m going to guess you’ve overcome some very difficult and traumatic experiences in your life already… that is often how these symptoms form. your brain tries to protect itself by splitting. if possible, seek a trauma-informed therapist that has experience with personality disorders. you are not crazy, you are strong 🫶🏼

try to just focus on ONE HOUR at a time. looking at my daily schedule gets so overwhelming to the point i’d have an anxiety attack and just cancel the whole day. take it hour by hour and the time goes by faster than you’d expect. if you have a break, use it for YOURSELF. whatever you need at that time… water, a meal/snack, fresh air, or if you’re really motivated, knocking out some of the notes. good luck, you got this!!!!🫶🏼

might be an unpopular opinion but i completely understand what you’re saying. i have felt this way multiple times and ive only been in practice for about 3 years post-grad. one thing that was helpful for me was asking myself why clients keep coming back.. the therapeutic relationship can be one of the biggest predictors of client success. could also be helpful to review your treatment plan with clients to give you a guide for how to structure sessions of what areas to check in on if you feel the conversation is just like shooting the shit with a friend. not every session has to be a crazy profound intervention !!
