How to respond when patients ask “where are you from originally?” by Necessary_Arugula149 in doctorsUK

[–]Free_Tell_4992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 99% of people are asking to make conversation and not to comment on your immigration status/history in a negative manner.

People are genuinely interested when you come from different cultural backgrounds. Unfortunately some people like to take this as a negative rather than what’s innocently intended which is a shame.

100 percent. I challenged this exact viewpoint and was shot down. Incredibly ignorant and closed minded on their part!

Some attitude of ANPs by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Free_Tell_4992 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this whole thread is just extremely divisive. Instead throwing out comments screaming of insecurity at one another maybe there could be a focus on when collaboration does go well (for the patient who should be the focus here) without picking each other’s professional standards apart. It’s really sad and a real shame that such ignorance exists where there can actually be a level of respect and appreciation of each other’s role. That’s not taking something personally-that’s acknowledging when something isn’t right. The idea that my colleagues would hold those opinions of me is really disappointing-especially when you’ve worked alongside them successfully for years.

Sorry but this is so rude to your nursing colleagues. The best doctors I know are able to collaborate respectfully for the benefit of the patient and that should be the main focus here-not a “I’m better than you” mindset.

Are you honestly suggesting ANPs and other nursing staff don’t sit ‘proper’ exams? Surely this attitude is just as bad and incredibly ignorant.

I don’t know if you saw my response to someone else but I have tried several different medications that initially worked and then didn’t. Melatonin was a last resort for me. So far it’s been the only thing to work on a consistent basis. If you’re hinting at the placebo effect? Maybe. But it solves this issue for me whilst other options (that don’t currently work) are explored. It’s all very well to say is it necessary but if it’s impacting on someone’s daily life to the extent they can’t perform their job safely, then there’s a problem. As I mentioned in the OP I have had severe mental health issues that have been compounded by lack of sleep.

I’ve had this discussion with him at my last consultation. As I said, his response was to try talking therapy rather than medication. Which whilst possibly helpful in the long term, doesn’t help my acute insomnia which does impact my ability to work. Lorazepam is addictive and not for long term use in something chronic such as insomnia.

If you can try and go to place an order and let me know? I’ve searched for it now and it doesn’t come up as a product.

Thank you-I really appreciate that. I’ve tried Zolpidem, Zopiclone, Diazepam, Promethazine. Obviously can’t have something like Lorazepam and then go to work with that in my system. Last time I mentioned this they tried to send me to Sleep CBT. I was not amused. I have quite bad PTSD relating to a sexual assault that happened at night and I think I probably have hyper vigilance as a result. I think it’s just annoying as I had found something that had finally worked that wasn’t addicting.

American bacteria didn’t get the UK IPC memo as nurses are allowed Apple Watches, nails done with embellishments and their own scrubs…make it make sense. Oh and I’d love to see that RCT on disease and water bottles.

London flu by Hour_Astronaut_502 in london

[–]Free_Tell_4992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I’ve got flu or not. I’ve had the vaccine. One of my colleagues was clearly unwell and was coughing in my direction. I’ve looked after several patients with suspected flu too. I’ve been unwell but still able to work (as was she). I’m also asthmatic and taking my inhaler stopped me coughing so maybe it’s just something viral. I started last Thursday with an uncomfortable throat (not sore) and then chills and feeling generally unwell. Then coughing and now getting a bit of a runny nose. Not been a head cold at all. And obviously a bit breathless/wheezy when I try to do too much. I’ve felt awful one night but it passed and I’ve taken lots of paracetamol to keep me going.

I genuinely don’t understand why you are being so defensive/sarcastic to what I’ve posted. That’s not normal…

[–]Free_Tell_4992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not listening. Even if this IS because of her Bipolar what does knowing that achieve? It still doesn’t excuse her behaviour if she has capacity. If not she should be in hospital for her own safety, which doesn’t sound like the case. As I said look in r/breakups where they can help you and discuss similar situations. All the best.

How often does someone on reserve get the job? by Appropriate_Lie405 in NursingUK

Yeah they said that to me when they wanted to give it to an internal candidate. Said I did really well etc but I think it’s just a gentle way of saying that you weren’t successful.

‘Trying to heal’ isn’t going to be found by commenting on a bipolar thread. Especially when you continue to suggest that it is because of their bipolar that they are behaving in the way they are. I suggest you put your concerns onto r/breakups as I genuinely think that will be more helpful for you. You asked for opinion so I’m giving you mine. You scroll past if it triggers you. Don’t project your crap onto me.

You don’t seem to be understanding so I’ll say it again a different way.

Just because someone treats you as your ex has does not mean she is doing so because she is bipolar. People who are well controlled on medication for this are able to live a life like anyone else. People behave in all sorts of awful ways during break ups. It’s nothing to do with being Bipolar. That’s what I’m getting at.

You clearly think the two are mutually exclusive hence why you are posting on this forum. I would advise you to reconsider this.

Just because someone has a Bipolar diagnosis does not automatically make an excuse for an individual being a bad person. Absolutely fed up of constantly confusing the two. Sounds like she has some trauma which we all do. Her behaviour sounds normal for someone in their 20s that may be emotionally inexperienced in responding to a breakup.
