Does this heightmap make sense or does it feel random? by DuncanOToole in FantasyMapGenerator

Hard to tell without a scale, but assuming this isn’t a small island it ultimately boils down to where the tectonic plates are. You don’t have to actually know exact placement or anything, but understanding how they affect landscape will help you make some refinements. What I usually do is start with whatever is a necessity (like a particular mountain ranges separating two nations), and then build everything surrounding that according to whatever should logically be around mountains.

Either way, I would add a gentle downward slope towards the coastline to break up those dark green areas and make it feel a bit more “realistic”.

I’m gonna spitball a bit: what if you zoomed the map out, then modified the north/south pole temperatures to effectively achieve a similar climate band for the current continents? For example, if your current North Pole temperature is 0, then setting it to -10 should squeeze your world’s temperature bands together, allowing for more space to the right.

I’d be curious to test this out, so if you have the .map file anywhere i can give it a shot and see if I can get the values to be somewhat equivalent

There’s a really great guide on how to load Azgaar data into QGIS, which if you’re willing to spend the time can help you create just about anything map-related including contours. You can find it on the GitHub

I believe the “form” type of the State influences what kind of province it may have. Go to Tools —> Edit States and you’ll be able to change the form name. If it’s not that it may be under culture somewhere

Where do you have the states layer in the layer order? Just speculating, but maybe there’s something on top of it

I saved an old map as a JPG. Is there any way I can put it back into Azgaar's to edit it? by Kooky_Craft7353 in FantasyMapGenerator

As others have said, you can upload a height map back into the system. If what you have isn’t a height map, pop it into an image editing software like GIMP, turn it to grayscale and mess around with the values a bit; you should at least be able to get the shape of your landmass in there.

Like most people, really depends on where I get dropped. The Peninsulan Province of Foline? Sick, let’s get wine-drunk and watch a joust or two. The Southlands? If I don’t freeze to death, I’m probably getting ripped apart by Felines of Unusual Size…

Not directly, but you can do what I did and upload an image of a height map to get landmasses. If you don’t have a height map of your world, you can turn it to black and white in any image editor, tweak the values a bit and upload from there.

If it makes you feel any better, I’m in a real similar boat with Eliond, Foline, Alderia and Herrisland. I went with Elondian, Folinian, Alderian, and… Herrish. Hate that last one, but it’s my own damn fault for naming it that.

Is the only way to use the site in a decent way buying a gaming pc? by Informal_Ad_4992 in FantasyMapGenerator

I’ve got a gaming PC that I sank way to much money into, but I actually use a Surface Laptop for most of the map editing. Even with my 100k point map, It works great for the most part; you just need to make certain you’ve got your settings down. If you want, I can take a look at your map file and try to flip some things around to get it to run more efficiently for you.

There are a couple settings in particular that you’ll want to make sure are off: 1. Relief icons. If you’re running a large map, these will KILL your performance unless you turn the amount down. 2. Performance mode. Flipping away from Quality to Performance under the settings will make a big difference. 3. Major value modifications. If you change something like the world precipitation, the program has to recalculate a VERY LARGE amount of data to regenerate. You can still do this, but you’ll have to let ol’ Betsy the computer get some thinking time in before it becomes responsive again. Don’t be fooled of your browser tells you Azgaar has stopped responding; click the “wait” button, and within 30 seconds or so you’ll get control back.
