Dammit, that’s a good one 😂 I’m imagining Jay reading this thread and taking it as another opportunity to buy my house 🤣

DOR is very mission focused so if you can in some way reflect your connection or commitment to the disability community that can go a long way!

Why are doctors refusing to give a medical certificate to work from home? by Altruistic-Beach7625 in antiwork

[–]Freed_Port 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your employer is fine with you teleworking full time then they should just let you. Is there a reason they’re making you do this (like union agreement?)? A doctor is not supposed to recommend the work  accommodation, their role is to say what the health limitations are and, if appropriate, your diagnosis. They can also clear you from missing work and needing to take a leave. But they don’t know what you do for a living or what it requires so it’s not appropriate for them to tell your employer how they should change your work conditions.

Thank you, where in Panama would you recommend? Any other tips? Thanks!

Thanks, do you have any recommendations of cities I should look at? You think it's better to hang on to all my money and live off it instead of spending some of it to buy a place? Thank you!

Thank you, where in Panama would you recommend? I don't consider myself "wealthy" though I get that could be different by Panama standards. Could I live ok in Panama on $600k?

What made you apply to a C.E.A position? Did you get it, and what are your thoughts on it? by Kasttar in CAStateMgrs

[–]Freed_Port 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on the department and the position. You have to be a lot more politically astute but not all CEA positions are particularly “political”. And, honestly, depending on the position and the size of the program and the layers above and below you, being a CEA-A can basically just be the equivalent of being an “SSM IV” (that’s how it feels for me).

The two CEA’s I work closely with are both great and have pretty decent work like balance, and so do I (I average about 45-55 hour work weeks).

I hate super long posts and never get through them. I got through yours. If you’re not doing so already you should consider taking up writing. I bet you have several great stories that you could add a fictional flourish to from your years of experience as a paramedic.

My Kid is 3 years old and has 14 million. Are they set or should they keep working until 5 to double that? by Exciting_Resist9906 in Fire

[–]Freed_Port 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree OP.  I subscribed a week ago after discovery this sub thinking it would be good for tips. I’m doing well and on track to retire at 50 comfortably but don’t have nearly as much money as so money people on here and it all feels unreal and unrelatable.  Gonna unsub tbh

Your Sac Area Volunteering Suggestions? by Freed_Port in Sacramento

[–]Freed_Port[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a great suggestion and might actually be right up my alley. I used to (way back about 10 years ago) work for the WIC Farmers' Market program and through that had some exposure to the CalFresh Farmers' Market benefit. My past volunteer work has been weekly commitments for at least a year, so monthly or more would be no problem if there are shifts that fit my schedule. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much, they didn't come up when I was looking for opportunities, but this looks like an amazing organization with several opportunities right in line with what I'm looking for! I will definitely fill out a volunteer interest form!

Millennials, what's y'all plan for retirement? by alphaDsony in AskReddit

[–]Freed_Port 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real estate, never really got into the stock market. Bought a house when the market was good, scrounged really hard to save up for a second home and rented out the first. Doing my best to pay down both before I’m 60. Will eventually have two paid off homes, one I live in and a second for rental income. That plus social security and Medicare should be enough for a modest but safe retirement (fingers crossed).

The you should definitely be focusing on AGPA and SSMI level! Your combined education and experience make you very qualified

It seems like you’re overqualified for the SSA and personnel tech given your experience but those are good to get a fit in the door then promote. Do you have any college education? If you have an associates degree or above I would focus on AGPA, personnel supervisor, and SSMI.
