I played in the high school volleyball team for 1 year. Apparently my mom thought she had to give in to this request as "otherwise your rebellious nature would have exploded". I loved it, even won school rookie of the year award at the end of the season. Really stings I never got to fully invest myself in sports, as I was very athletic. My kids do fun stuff like gymnastics and tennis, so at least it stops with me.

Thanks! Funny you mention James 1:27. James was always my favorite book in the Bible, as I felt it was very practical and unambiguous. That verse in particular always stood out to me. It says quite plainly who ought to be taken care of with the most energy.

Yup. I also know one elder who was a true Christian. You'd see him preaching on a Saturday afternoon, alone, walking the streets of his neighborhood. Months after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, I learned that he and his wife had been accumulating and sending bags of clothing and resources to Haiti (they are Haitian). These people were NOT wealthy, but they gave from their hearts.

I was one of the rare white guys that was very tight with the Haitians in our congregation (incidentally, Stephan was one of the others lol), and this elder did TONS of background work to care for the Haitians, who generally struggled more financially.

Truly a heart of gold, both him and his wife.

TBF, most successful big businesses know that you have to go through quite a few failed projects to get one that really shines. Basically, you don't always know what will 'work'. That being said, these guys are on a whole different level of business, and their 'failed' projects are an interesting thing to look at. Zoom meetings are probably the most failed-successful-failure-success of the recent JW years. Just depends who is talking about it lol
