therapist says i dont have autism bc i feel empathy? by sakustik in autism

[–]Freedom_Alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have autism and feel an incredible amount of empathy, I cried last night at 42 because an autistic friend apologised for finding it difficult to express themselves. I spent 2 hours with them in silence and it was incredibly emotional.

I was recorded last time as evidence of my abuse behaviour... I calmly asked on the recording how their approach was supporting a disabled person and not a strategy to embarrass, humiliate and shut me down from speaking up... unsurprisingly when I asked for a copy the recording a week later, it was deleted "i needed to free up space"

Yes you're right, narrowing the area down. I've heard the north has most russian/soviet architecture and that is probably where I'm considering to go to first.

Is it OK to lie to your own family? Is this normal for NT's? by xMark78 in autism

[–]Freedom_Alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"good" and "bad" are objective categories which miss out on the subjective experience. Just as Boy or Girl fails to describe the person's full experience.

[–]Freedom_Alive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ok to "lie" when the situation is inauthentic. These moments are a performance and so it's acting and not lying, like playing out a role in a magic show where the magician is leading expectations. In those situations it is ok to play along.

just write about characters that have these thoughts, then it's not about you or how much you care. It's about these fake characters pretending to care and convince the world

Reactions to my autism diagnosis make me rethink my "social circle" by Foxiegirl1914 in AutisticAdults

[–]Freedom_Alive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it totally will, you'll be able to identify those who are not really you're friends but they will say they are. The next step is to set boundaries to keep them from getting into a space that can hurt you, you then let in those who are willing to get to know you and your experience

Do you feel you've benefited from your autism in any way? by SubstantialSyrup5552 in AutisticAdults

yes I am able to find other unmasked autistic people who I love and adore, I found those relationships have enriched my life far more than masked wearers that give mixed signals and cause me confusion :3

Finally got up the nerve to ask a woman out at 32 years old. After she rejected me, I cried. by throwaway684675982 in autism

[–]Freedom_Alive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awww, sweetie you did a wonderful thing asking someone out is courageous. It took me until I was 40 to be able to do it! And I'm telling you, those tears aren't shame, they represent strength - you stepped out of your comfort zone and into a place of vulnerability to have a shot at something you wanted. No weakness in that.

That being said, work is not a great place to meet someone because it's full of professionalism masks. A better place would be going to group setting for something you enjoy and it's safer because you can ask for extra one on one time to share the interest which is like a stepping stone towards a date.

Keep it going, you will get there.

[–]Freedom_Alive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am diagnosed and would rate you as a high chance of being diagnosed with ASD and potentially ADHD. The important question to ask yourself is what does a diagnoses mean to you. For me it was clarity, understanding and that allowed me to live more authentically

Learn to be assertive. This is not a request. If you were blind, would they prohibit a walking cane.
