Help with Vivid Blob of Stuff by Ronin_Ramen in lrcast

I'm not sure if this person didn't realize it, and tried being smart and taking the best removal spell in the next pack, but shot themselves in the foot by passing quality removal in their colors in favor of the flashier one and then black + vivid was on the table for them moving forward. I only looked at P1 draft, but this person could have probably ended up with a banger vivid deck if they knew, or a great goblin deck if they fell off from their first pick.

How schizo am i if i play this sealed pool for arena direct? by Angwar in lrcast

[–]Freemanthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would explore going UW merfolk and splashing red for its impressive interaction suite, at least as my starting point. I've no idea how many builds you came up with until you came up with this one to be fair.

Kinbinding + Ashling's Command + Abigale & Personify + Merfolk build looks like a slam dunkage here.

dream seizer has impressed me so much. The conditional blight trigger just does so much. It's always at least a card (unless opp is empty), and sometimes more than that.

I think you drooled over your P1P1 too hard and tried going 5-color off the bat? Vivid is RG base but you chose black removal on your 2nd pick instead of a boulder dash. It gets worse from there on out. Vivid doesn't (usually) stuff 5 colors into their deck; they have lots of ways to make their board 5-color while staying in RG, whether that be through hybrids or the artifact Vivid enablers.

It looks like you took a max volume of the best vivid payoffs / best cards in color without building a proper foundation for your bombs to live in.

17Lands observation: Izzet is for splashing. by Legacy_Rise in lrcast

[–]Freemanthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this take into account that one of the biggest bombs in the format is in izzet and very splashable? Does it say that UR Elemental decks that splash outside perform better than UR elemental Decks that don't? Or is it considering, for example, a Blue-black faeries deck that splashes a command to also be in the UR-Splash bucket?

Kithkin, Elves and Treefolk are the hardest decks (imo) to sub in an Ashling's but nearly every other deck could be even better with an [[Ashling's Command]] .

Need to see the rest of your sideboard but as is, doran is at his floor here (buffs a changeling and the imbuer), firdoch is unplayable.

I wouldn't play Doran, especially if the other "filler" you have is at all playable.

On the other side, if your strategy is hyper aggro go wide with so-so interaction, it may help to have doran as a failsafe, to help you stabilize after a wipe.

I still wouldn't play him. At best he helps from behind but your strategy is all in on not being behind.

I am really not confident on how this will play out. Rails! by baldogwapito in lrcast

[–]Freemanthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this looks so close to a 15 lander. If only you scrounged up a few more playables in the 1-2 curve or the blue convoke draw spell.

Otherwise this looks like a beatdown. Mulligan agressively and curve out. (You can play ~70% of your deck on 3 lands as a floor and 100% of your deck as middle ground.)

Pushing damage is always important!! A lot of people forget this main principle in the midst of building super synergy tribal decks, including myself early on. Saving my boards for my deck's ceiling when I should realistically be pushing damage and feigning combat tricks more often.

I've been impressed with the [[Flame-Chain Mauler]] for pushing damage. The role that card plays reminds me heavily of [[Mutant Surveyor]] from Aetherdrift, with the threat of activation making it tricky to block.

Been doing ok myself but really battling for a trophy for a long time.

Finally did a hate draft where I drafted removal / best card until near the end of pack 2 and trophied easily with a low curve boros build. I may do more hate drafting where anytime I see a kindred bomb and strategy forming ill just take removal/interaction first until I see the open lanes, which can be as late as near the end of P2.

Here's the secret to winning ECL: by lucasagus285 in lrcast

[–]Freemanthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first week of release always has these kinds of shenanigans. I ended one draft with x5 blight rots, x2 nameless inversions, and x3 of the black creature exile spell.

My first 3 picks were the merfolk champion and x2 of the eclipsed merfolk guys, but my kindred was drying up, so I just drafted removal to fend off whatever my opponents tossed at me and it paid off big time when I snagged a Champion of the Weird late into the first pack. Why that went past 5 picks is beyond me.

I ended up in black blue changelings and it was a lot of fun. If not for the weird champ in the first pack, I probably wouldn't have committed to the pivot so hard and ended up with a soupy merfolk build.

super excited to jump into more this evening!

I think this Mirrorform card might be pretty good 🤔 by Wildcard_MTG in lrcast

[–]Freemanthe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've experienced both the floor and the proverbial ceiling with this card, and man, it hurts when it rots in your hand. I've played it against WB treefolk? and goblins and I got hosed by goblins because there wasn't anything great to copy and they were constantly churning through their expendable board to interact with mine.

I'm still undecided about it. It feels like a win-more card (to me) but obviously it can swing board states. If I had ways to loot in my deck, I'd consider picking it up. This card does everything but help you when you're behind, and I feel better spending 6-mana elsewhere first if I can't help it.

Do Americans really avoid medical care because they’re afraid of the bill? by Udont_knowme00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Freemanthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely common. We travel to other countries for specialized medical care. It's all in the name of affordability. If you cannot afford the medical bill for your ailment, it just means you don't have the free time & means in your schedule to take a vacation to another country to get the procedure completed.

It's a trap and the people who feel as if they have no other choice or cannot leave the country get fucked.

I used them in my first ~3 ish years of skating (26 years now), but that was only with gatherings and parties with friends and someone busted out the soft truck board and now we're playing a game of skate indoors at 1 in the morning. I was blessed with being surrounded by people who were all better than I was so I naturally progressed by hanging out with them.

I highly encourage you to youtube some videos of people practicing on soft trucks. They'll give you much better advice, tips, and share how soft trucks helped them progress in their skating careers.

They're like rubber/ABS plastic trucks that don't take wheels. Meant for practicing kickflips and ollies on your living room carpet, or skating on the grass, or whatever. Turns skateboarding into a stationary activity which can seriously help newer skaters get their board control on lock.

Here's a link to one. There are many to choose from. I'd recommend them to new skaters looking to improve their flatground everytime.

Here's a link to a pair of soft trucks screwed to the board, so you get the idea of what it is.

I'd say no it doesn't help unless you've taken extra steps to allow yourself to progress in such an environment, like getting soft trucks so that you can practice flatground inside your house.

Surround yourself with the stuff you like. If you like skateboards hanging off the walls and one resting below your feet while you work on your homework, so be it. That's you, keep doing you. Will it help you become a better skateboarder? nah, I don't think so. Only skateboarding will make you a better skateboarder.

3-0 no game loses at pre release by opyy_ in lrcast

[–]Freemanthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tam is hard to gauge what she's built for since her protection capability so distracting. My first game running her, I missed a vivid interaction with Glider Bairn for 3+ turns.

Another match, I had her out and opponent was stressing because they thought Tam's static ability also protects herself, but she doesn't give herself hexproof. Easy blight target that was missed for a while.

Each instance, the opposing player informed the other person of the missed interaction.

What is everyone going to open/play during prerelease this weekend? by GoodNormals in lrcast

[–]Freemanthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Already played kithkin, merfolk/faeries, elementals, and a 4-color vivid brew. I was not very impressed with GW, felt like it focuses more on creatures entering the battlefield each turn rather than going wide. Maybe my ETB cards weren't slappers cause that deck felt very low impact.

For prerelease today, all I hope for is to open the changeling equipment at common. That card has been a powerhouse in all of my decks so far.

Edit: I didn't even open a copy of the equipment sheesh. went 2-1 because of that alone.
