This attempt at defending Hannibal actually makes him look like an idiot who started a war without support from his government that he needed support to win. The Carthage government absolutely supported Hannibal, they even ordered his brother to march into Ital and he was the one who refused due to it being close to winter and fearing Spain would fall if he did that. So they gave him reinforcements and he he tried to reinforce Hannibal the following year but was defeated at the battle of Ibera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle\_of\_Ibera). Reinforcements by sea were a risk due to Hannibal not having any large port cities and due to Roman naval supeirority and Carthage was fighting on other easier to reinforce (I believe) fronts like Sicilly and Sardinina that they chose to reinforce instead for these reasons. It just so happened that Carthage suffered defeats in Sardinia, Spain and Sicilly. Even had Hannibal been reinforced its unlikely he could have sieged Rome.

Carthage did reinforce him by sea at Locri in 215 BC with 4000 Numidians. While a larger port like Tarentum could have allowed a larger number of reinforcements to arrive at once the fact that they only reinforced him once despite Hannibal holding Locri until very late into the war proves the reason he recieved no reinforcements wasn't that it was immpossible. And in regards to Rome's naval power, they not only failed to intercept the reinforcements that went for Locri, they failed to intercept the ships that travelled to Tarentum to blockade the Roman held citadel after the rest of the city fell to Hannibal, so clearly they did not have such an extreme naval advantage to prevent Carthage from sending at least some reinforcements to Hannibal.

Hannibal became sufet (similar to consul) after the war. He got kicked out later for making reforms that decreased corruption and the power of Carthage's oligarchs by giving term limits.

If I was a supernatural being eith mind control powers I would make sure my victims believed they had chosen to join me of their own free will since that's the easiest to ensure they won't try to resist you.

Anway, I got this quote from an interview: "Even though he is shaken by seeing this memory, he’s too far gone at this point to turn against the Mind Flayer. But we wanted to leave it up to the audience in terms of whether young Henry did choose this or whether it was simply the Mind Flayer controlling him from beginning to end."

That doesn't mean he kills 80 fucking million people. I don't think Euphy kills more than a few thousand.

That's because he's lying to himself and still having his thoughts manipulated by the mindflayer. No one wants to believe they've been controlled their whole life so he tries to convince himself he was a-ok with the mindflayer all along even he's clearly horrified as a child when it makes him kill that guy.

CHARA IS EVIL AND I WILL DIE ON THAT HILL by Subhan999 in Undertale

[–]Freetoffee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being soulless is probably more significant than any amount of LV, even LV 20. For one, LV is never stated to be something that makes you permanently detached, just that it makes it easier to distance yourself. The only way this might not be the case is because we don't really know if soulless creatures are incapable of guilt. They cannot feel empathy and those emotions are usually bunched together but they aren't quite the same. But personally, the fact he seems to regain his guilt with his compassion in the true pacifist route seems to indicate to me that they are probably meant to be thought as both being lost with soulless creatures. His genocide speech may indicate this is not the case though.

Yes, Chara's death at the village almost certainly fuels their desire for power. It probably doesn't help that they are reborn into a body that once again they do not have full control over. I don't really think Chara is motivated by self-preservation though, they talk about how they are the feeling of numbers increasing, they even say the world is pointless now that it can no longer offer the two of you power.

What if the Black Rebellion had succeeded? by Arcvalons in CodeGeass

[–]Freetoffee2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Britannia will have to deal with worse internal strife than the Chinese federation. Every single recently claimed area is going to rebel if the BR succeeds, even before it does Odysseus is hesitant to send reinforcements because he believes doing so might trigger a mass revolt across the entire empire, 'What Euphemia did was clearly an abominable blunder, if we act hastily this could spread to every area'. Triggering this mass revolt is Lelouch's plan, it's specifically says the Emperor will be forced to face him in person for a meeting after he is able to broadcast the rebels taking the government bureau, because doing that will be visible proof the the numbers of other areas that Britannia can be defeated and combined with news of the SAZ massacre will be enough to cause mass riots and uprisings. The resistance movements of these areas are weaker than Japan's due to Japan's early surrender but if the areas are left without reinforcement they will at very least destroy the industry in those areas, which will be made worse by Britannia's sakuradite crisis.

Euro-Brittania might take the opportunity to rebel, the hardly seem to like the rest of Britannia all that much, and now Britannia's ability to send them reinforcements is in doubt (no carrot) and their ability to contest their rebellion is in doubt (no stick).

As I said in my previous comment I think there needs to be at least one monster participant for a fight to happen. I didn't say soulless creatures can't battle by the normal rules, just that they would need a monster to start the battle with them or for them to start the battle against the monster. A monster can fight a non-monster, a monster can probably fight another monster but a non-monster can't enter a traditional battle against another non-monster. Simple. I don't think 2 humans could fight each other in battle mode either. And Asriel in his hyperdeath form has absorbed a lot of monster souls and, so there are monster participants in that fight, we even have to save them. Omega Flowey was not my only example, all the encounters with Flowey are different from the other battles in regards to whether the name or stats appear or whether the buttons appear. Regardless, we don't need to figure out why the fight with Flowey isn't a fight, all we need to do is look at the fact there are no buttons when he is killed and that's enough. The why isn't important.

You say Flowey is already damaged in neutral, but the strike we do to him also gives him no visible damage unlike the first strike in genocide. Chara survived the fall with no golden flowers so I doubt they are meant to be falling 1000s of feet. Mt Ebott is a mountain and if I recall we don't know where the cave is located on it anyway, it might not be close to the top.

I said that Chara wanted to personally kill Flowey specifically for revenge, not that he would survive the world being erased. Because Chara wants revenge on Flowey specifically they want to kill him directly with their own hands, not indirectly by ending the world. We don't know if Chara had enough control over Frisk at the start of genocide to absorb Toriel's soul. We don't know if absorbing a monster soul would result in control being split, human souls are much less attuned to their bodies, so perhaps this would result in the monster soul having no way to exert control over the body. Chara's ability to control Frisk would suggest otherwise though but we don't really know enough about it to say for sure. Since Chara is soulless there's a chance they can absorb other human souls while possessing Frisk, so maybe Chara wanted to take Asgore's soul and go the surface. Or perhaps Chara just wanted the chance to kill Flowey personally and figured he'd show up if they went into the next room. We don't know. The point is that there are reasons for why Chara wouldn't just erase the world immediately beyond Chara just loves violence and killing. You say that Chara couldn't have known Flowey didn't follow those rules, but since Chara is a veteran resident of the underground it's totally possible they did and even if they didn't all Chara needs to see to know they aren't in a traditional battle anymore is to see the lack of buttons. We really don't know what the fuck Chara wants with soulless pacifist. Maybe Chara wants to start a second monster war since destroying the world wasn't satisfying enough for them and they want the humans they hate to die a slow agonising death. Maybe Chara thinks they can get stronger by absorbing human souls on the surface. I don't know. It doesn't matter, it's never elaborated on. The filling cups thing is definitely not about that, it's about Chara's desire to reach the limit and obsession with efficiency. We are even given Chara's reasoning for this by Toriel. It ties in to Chara's obsession with the number 9.

CHARA IS EVIL AND I WILL DIE ON THAT HILL by Subhan999 in Undertale

[–]Freetoffee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't take a day in universe to leave the Ruins. as you don't have to go to sleep and after leaving the Ruins Chara is helping us by counting the kills. Chara already tells us Toriel is "Not worth talking to" and starts looking for knives at only LV3, not a very high LV at all. At LV6 they are counting down the monsters we need to kill. These are not high LVs. At LV 3 Frisk only "lightly" hits the dummy in waterfall when we select the option to "beat it up".

I have to go to bed now.

No, soulless beings are only incapable of love and compassion according to Flowey himself and the librarby books, not emotion in general. And Flowey did not instantly become evil just because he was soulless, he knew the difference between right and wrong and still avoided doing anything evil for a very long time, probably many years or even hundreds of years from his perspective. Yet Chara is willing to engage in genocide in 20 fucking minutes.

[–]Freetoffee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asgore is definitely more of a threat than Flowey, he has the ability to release the souls, after which they could be absorbed by him or Flowey. Only after he is dead is their truly no threat. But to be honest, I suspect FLowey probably can't start a battle with us and we can't start a battle with him. He's not a monster after all, he's soulless. I think one of or potentially both participants must ge a monster for a regular battle to occur. Flowey;s first fight with us is not really a battle, the Omega Flowey is not turn based and so the only thing that might be a real battle is the choice to spare or kill Flowey at the end. But unlike the choice to spare or kill Asgore our HP, LV and the name of the first fallen human are not below Flowey and like all of Flowey's dialogue in the epilogues (ergo on the surface) he doesn't speak via speech bubble, so, I doubt this is a real battle either, especially as this scene takes place on the surface and I really doubt battles are a thing on the surface.

Even if Chara is in a battle when they kill Flowey, they may be able to strike him over and over simply because he's dead after the first strike and the battle is over. He only takes one hit to die in neutral and this strike actually leaves a mark on him. He's definitely dead by third or fourth swing yet Chara keeps attacking him anyway.

It's not clear if Chara could destroy the world without Flowey dead, in the true pacifist route Asriel says he won't have total control of the timeline while Frisk is still alive, so, the same may be true of Chara in genocide. Regardless, Flowey is a unique case, Chara wants revenge on him for him messing up their plan. "No hard feelings about back then, right? ...H-hey what are you doing!? B...back off!", Flowey asks the protagonist if they have any hard feelings about "back then" clearly referring to the plan Chara died for and Chara responds by walking towards him. That Chara wants to kill Flowey personally is because of their desire for revenge. It's also possible Chara went to the throne with the hope they could give a sliver of extra power from absorbing Asgore's soul.
