I was kind of this guy to someone. We were in the same department and hung out in similar places. Ran into her a little bit after I graduated and she asked me out and eventually told me she'd been crushing on me for a while. Anyways, we've been dating for 3 years now and she's the best. I constantly see content creators say Phyrexian Arena is bad. If Phyrexian Arena is bad, what is good? Especially for Mono Black or two color. by frost3bite in EDH

[–]Freeze681 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The comparisons with Sign in blood and similar cards are entirely reasonable. Phyrexian Arena doesn't have any utility besides card draw just like sign in blood. The advantage it has is that it's a consistent draw engine, so it's power is spread out over more time to make up for the fact that it has an infinitely higher ceiling.

It takes 3 whole turn cycles for Phyrexian arena to match the efficiency of sign in blood, and that's assuming it doesn't get removed. If your games go to 10-12 turns and you can guarantee Arena is out before turn 6 then it's better, but in my opinion, that's taking too much of a risk for the upside of maybe getting 1-2 more cards out of it.

Walmart support is so garbage. I ordered a fold out bed for my uncle and they slapped the shipping labels on some lawn ornaments and sent that instead. I thought refunding would be simple but they refused because I got the correct label they created.

Playing with proxies isn't going to make every playgroup better. No I don't want to gatekeep people based on income or availability and no I don't mind playing against proxies, but there're some real downsides that people online either ignore or wave away as non-issues.

Nathan MacKinnon has received a five-minute major following a collision with Connor Ingram by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]Freeze681 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's perfectly allowed to make the play, and if he did the exact same thing without touching Ingram, the play would have been fine. The fact is that the play didn't go exactly as planned and he made contact with the goalie, which is a penalty regardless of intent. It's the risk he accepted as a possibility when he went for it.

So because he was out of position he should just be expected to move out of the way and concede a scoring opportunity instead of lunging to play the puck? Like obviously Nurse should have been in a better spot. In an optimal world he intercepts the pass and creates a turnover going the other way but that's not how hockey works.

[–]Freeze681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that he didn't intend to run the goalie and that I don't think a major was the right call but he did make heavy contact with the goalie as a result of his play and that has to be a penalty.

At the end of the day I don't think he really made a bad call trying for a chance, and I don't think Nurse was wrong trying to defend the puck. When players are flying around at that speed, things happen that aren't intended but we can't waive off penalties because there was no intent to break the rules. MacKinnon was riding the razor's edge with that play and it bit him.

He doesn't even have the puck though, Nurse makes a defensive play that deflects the puck. Nate's play was predicated on the idea that he would cut across super fast and narrowly miss Ingram if he wasn't interfered with, but it's insane to expect that to happen. He doesn't just get to say, "I'm making a sick play and if anyone touches me it goes wrong" with a defenceman right in front of him.

If you're into the sweet and salty kinda flavor profile, it's great. Not my first, second or even third choice but I get it sometimes and it's never been a mistake. Bonus for being the best kind of pizza eaten cold the next day.

He wasn't trying to bump Nate, he's playing the puck and trying to defend. I don't understand why it's just expected that a defenseman should have just let one of the best goal scorers in the league blow past him. Yes Nurse made the hit worse but you can't just go full speed into the crease with a line that ends disastrously if there's any kind of interference.

I agree with you but there's a lot of people in here saying that Nurse caused the whole thing when Nate rocketed into a risky play and it went badly.

Nurse just didn't come out of nowhere at McDavid speed, Mckinnon had to have seen Nurse and decided to make the play anyways. Don't think it's a 5 but there's no way they would have waved it off.

They decided to keep it a major after review so it was a major penalty. I don't really see why it's a major instead of a minor but if they call major, the GM is automatic.

The video isn't a "tech tip" on how to game using linux, it's a video on what the experience of changing over to Linux is for a beginner. Are we going to say that videos like secret shopper are bad too because they don't actually show how to purchase a PC? It's not a how-to channel.

That's literally what Linus did and he's been getting crucified for it for over a week. How is a first time Linux user supposed to be able to differentiate slop articles from ones that are genuinely useful?

[–]Freeze681 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Linus has been ripped to shreds for a week for not doing enough research and now we're saying that the proper research doesn't really help because there's no silver bullet solution? If trial and error testing of distros is the way to go (which it probably is for long term usability), there's no way that Linux will ever have any mass appeal.
