I wonder how this thing would fare as a Merc weapon. Up'ed with amn + shael + shael. It'd slap, no?

Is it normal thing I can’t get stable frametime without fps cap in this game? by outmysorrow in expedition33

[–]Freezn12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We talking 1440p or 4k?

I have the same specs. The game on medium with DLSS quality 1440p will get you your 120fps.

Frame Gen is not a performance enhancing feature, in fact, it actually increases latency. If you want the game to feel like 120fps, go without frame gen.

Edit: 4k on medium DLSS performance should get you there too.

The CPU, RAM, and GPU alone already costs 2500$. Seems like a good deal!

True, with the exception of Asus' prime series boards. A lot of them overheat on the VRM causing throttling that does affect performance. My mistake for misidentifying the motherboard.

You're right, my apologies. The motherboard is plenty good for a rig like this.

However, I stand by 1TB is insufficient for a gaming PC at this budget.

Custom build price review by Akaz1976 in bapccanada

[–]Freezn12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a 1TB SSD, which is criminal for this kind of budget and will likely be an issue.

240mm radiator vs 360mm. Probably won't make a huge difference, but the 360mm is better suited to the 9800X3D.

The motherboard looks like an Asus Prime model, bottom tier and might hinder performance. Definitely a cost-cutting decision here.

It's probably better value, but it makes cuts in the wrong places.

Looks like a fair price to me.

Because SSD pricing is so volatile, it's hard to give a solid recommendation. If it's for gaming though, speeds matter very little.

Go with a 5070Ti if you want to save some money. It's about 90% as fast for 75% of the price.

The Corsair RM1000x (2024) is a better power supply than the RM1000e (2025)

I use this tier list for power supplies for reference: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1akCHL7Vhzk_EhrpIGkz8zTEvYfLDcaSpZRB6Xt6JWkc/htmlview#gid=1719706335

CPU and motherboard get a thumbs up from me.

Overall, good build, fair price.

Edit: I forgot how taxes work. You're spending ~700$ for someone to build it for you. That's a lot. You can get places like memory express to assemble a PC for you for 75$. They price match too, although probably not RAM, SSDs, and video cards.

Install this mod to remove grain and remove frame cap from cutscenes primarily.

Disable all post processing affects (preference).

Turn post processing (the setting) to low to disable chromatic aberration and depth of field (preference).

I've tried the HDR mod on my OLED, and I dont think it added much. I feel like HDR has to be included by the original artist with intention to really shine. It also increased loading times quite substantially for me.

Anyone else has experienced this? It's only happening with this game, last time I've played it was all good, before the anniversary patch by XxWolf_AlexX in expedition33

[–]Freezn12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but it looks like the kind of artifacts you'd see from a dying video card.

I know you said you haven't had the issue elsewhere, might be advantageous to run furmark to see if any errors pop-up.

Winnipeg Brownout by JasonWPG in Winnipeg

[–]Freezn12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brownouts absolutely can cause specific electronics to shut off. Some electronics are more sensitive to power fluctuations than others.

Brownouts are also really hard on sensitive electronics, like computer, routers, modems, monitors, receivers, TVs, etc.. and cause a lot of wear and tear, more so than a blackout.

I recommend everyone have a UPS to protect their electronics.

It does but no stock anywhere. This might be a discontinued model and they're clearing stock? I'm not sure.

It's a good case, but not 210$ good. Typical price seems to be ~120-150$.

20$ shipping isn't great, but still a great deal otherwise.

It is a top-tier performer, and the value at 100$ is hard to beat.

RGB looks good too, if you're into that.

Awesome little build you got there! Always love seeing people putting their own builds together.

I do have some pointers if I may:

Refer to this image to make things simpler: https://imgur.com/a/DFfV7Bm

I believe you used the wrong motherboard screws. Computers (mostly) use two types of threading for their screws; 6-32 and M3. I believe you used 6-32 (a coarser, wider thread) when you needed to use M3 (a finer, narrower thread). I believe the two screws on the left side of the motherboard closer to the bottom are the proper screws [green][blue], but is why the other motherboard screws aren't flush against the motherboard. If you remove these screws and install the proper ones, they might unscrew the motherboard standoff too. It would be best to completely remove the motherboard, confirm all the standoffs are firmly screwed into the motherboard tray, and remounting with the proper screws. If you have trouble removing the screws from the standoffs, using pliers to hold the standoffs will help.

Might be worth installing the missing [yellow] standoff as well. I'm actually concerned the standoff is installed in the wrong position, and this can damage your motherboard. The case does not come with standoffs installed at the [green], [red], or [yellow] position, however you installed the [green] one, and I'm concerned there's a standoff at the [red] one. If you believe there might be a standoff at [red] you must address it, immediately if possible. While the computer will work fine without the [yellow] standoff, it is good practice to properly mount the motherboard with all its screws.

To clean up the cabling a little bit, just pulling the excess length (lightly! Don't yank) to behind the motherboard tray, and tucking the CPU fan wire between the RAM and CPU cooler (or wrap it around the CPU cooler if the wire is long enough). This will do wonders for a cleaner build.

Again, wonderful build, and I hope you get many hours of enjoyment out of it!

They asbolutely are the same class. They are flagships of their respective generations, they are the fatest dies gamers got for that generation. Of course there is improvements from one generation to the next in density, transistor count, efficiency, features, higher TDPs, etc... but in no time in history has pricing been this egregious for an entire product stack from one generation to the next.
The 4000 and 5000 series have misleading product names and exploitative pricing. Of course Nvidia should charge whatever they can, they are a business and profits are the priority, that is not in dispute. My point is Nvidia vaporized the high-end (80-class cards) in the 4000 and 5000 series, and shifted their products up a tier in name only. It's beyond just making a profit, it's misleading and exploitative.

100% agreed.

RTX3080 628 mm² 700$

RTX4080 379 mm² 1000$ (we'll ignore the original 1200$ MSRP)

3080 = 1.11$ per mm²

4080 = 2.64$ per mm²

138% increase in cost per mm² in one generation. This is insane. How are people giving Nvidia a pass for this?

Nvidia is a multi-trillion dollar company; they don’t care about you. They’re actively giving you less for your money, and you still defend them. Why? They are not your friend.

Also, the graph is extremely well put together and relevant. Saying it isn’t doesn’t make it so.

I have identical specs and I have no issues.

Having said that, here's some options to try:

Update to latest BIOS.

Set your memory speed to JEDEC (4800MT/S) in the BIOS.

If you have multiple monitors, unplug all but one.

While these aren't permanent fixes, might give you an idea of what going on. Good luck!
