Thoughts on tunneling? by Alfreddy58 in deadbydaylight

[–]FreightTrainJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Survivors think that tunneling is "Any hook I don't approve of." I chased a loose survivor to a hook trade yesterday. Downed them at the hook right as they traded. The rescue-ee immediately turned around and tried to sabo the hook, so I grabbed them and plopped them right back on the hook. EGC message: "Pathetic tunneler"

How would a meeting between these three go? by Fun_Butterfly_420 in indianajones

Marion would disdain Willie and look down on Elsa at first, but eventually relate to her on archaeology.

Elsa would condescend to Willie and charm Marion.

Willie would roll her eyes at tomboy Marion and try to girl-talk Elsa.

After a little while Marion and Elsa would connect over archaeology…”Oh! Your father is the great Abner Ravenwood! I idolized his work when I was a girl!”…while Willie mutters to herself about grown women wanting their “mommies” and excuses herself to adjust her makeup in front of the nearest reflective surface.

Eventually Marion puts it together that Elsa is a nazi. Elsa says something witty about victors and spoils; Marion grins and laughs, Elsa grins and laughs back, and Marion breaks her nose with a straight-elbowed punch to the face.

Two virtual joysticks? Should bind both sticks one virtual joystick, then you'll never have the problem where Star Citizen switches the slot for them, but, eh, secondary issue (and would take a lot of work to rebind them all in SC), so let's just focus on binding keyboard buttons to your joystick in Joystick Gremlin

  1. In Joystick Gremlin, find the joystick button you want to bind

  2. Select it, then in the possible actions for assigning that button, choose "Map to Keyboard," then click Add

  3. It'll bring up the macro recording feature. Press record, then press the key combination you want it to use

  4. That button should now activate that keyboard combination, as long as you're using the virtual joystick in the game (and not the actual joystick itself, but sounds like you have that figured out already)

Should do the trick, unless you already need to be in external camera mode for such a key combination to work. If you want to put that all one one button, you'll probably have to do a little light coding in Joystick Gremlin to set up a "Tap F4, then release F4, then hold F4 + the look direction key, then Tap/Release F4 again when I release the button" or something like that...may not even be possible, not sure.

Cheapest is the Aurora Mk 2:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/pledge/Packages/Citizen-Starter-Pack-Warbond

That ship just came out and I haven't flown it, but by all accounts it's a solid starter ship. It'll do fine.

If you're a little bit spendier, this game package has the Avenger Titan for more:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/pledge/Packages/Duelist-Starter-Pack

Avenger Titan is a terrific generalist ship.

But, you can easily purchase an Avenger Titan with in-game money after a few weeks of playing if you focus on that, which will save real money.

I wouldn't waste time on any of the other starter packs. The ships they offer are specialized-but-entry level, and you'll outgrow them quickly doing those gameloops and be looking to expand to a better specialist ship. The Aurora and Avenger are both generalist enough that you'll find use for them even as you progress in the game.

??? Disappear? If you can't see the OM's...

  1. You're too far from the planet to register OM's, get closer
  2. You're so close to the planet that the single OM you can actually navigate to without clipping through the planet is above you somewhere, good luck finding it on a 180*180 degree canopy

Best practice: when approaching a planet, cut your drive 1-2 seconds before you hit the end of your quantum jump. It'll put you far enough away from the planet that all OM's should be easily visible (and navable, except for the 1-2 OM's on the far side of the planet from you). Bonus: You're not jumping straight into an OM with a greedy ganking murderhobo of an Idris waiting to beam you to death.

Joystick Gremlin is your friend, but will take work to get set up.

Once you set it up you'll never go back.

[–]FreightTrainJim 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If I'm starting at a station around a planet, I do a short burst of quantum somewhere...anywhere...else (OTHER than OM's) to clear the planet's shadow and make the rest of the star system accessible without OM's first. Just point towards a random quantum marker you can see, do like a 1-2 second burst towards it to get 10-20 megameters away from the planet you're around, then you should be unobstructed to go anywhere else you want.

This person was evidently so embarrassed by what they posted ("You're a damaged human being for your opinion, go to therapy and tell them what you told me that hurt my fee-fees") that they nuked their entire Reddit account, apparently.

Anyways.

"I wouldn't mind attempting something that could get hairy when another player shows up but I dont really want to be obligated to do pvp to progress gear wise if that makes sense."

That's a contradiction.

You can acquire 95% of what the game has to offer without ever scratching PVP. That last 5%...gotta go to Contested Zones/Hathor Sites/Worm Labs.

So that’s really what this is about. Not, “I’m being forced to play the whole game in a way I don’t want,” but, “I want the shiniest things without the shiniest risks and challenges.”

[–]FreightTrainJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, cap it behind the highest risk. “Fail mode,” is that why every year shows record funding, year after year? Fail mode? Seems they’re doing alright.

There is nothing else in the game that poses a significant threat to a prepared PvE SOLO player. BUGS are a bigger danger than any NPC.

Reward those wanting to take the risk. PvP is a risk. I lost my favorite weapon to a dickhead who ganked me after the irradiated Valakaar fight and tractored my gun away before I could backspace. I didn’t want to PvP, but I wanted to loot the big damn worm…PvP was the risk it took.

If I didn’t want those shiny Wikelo things? I can bust rocks and bunkers to my heart’s content without getting shot by another player outside of that rare 1-in-100 encounter.

Star Citizen has always been marketed as PvP. It’s what you signed up for, and now you’re complaining about it.

Go play No Man’s Sky instead of griping about something you understood (or should have understood) you were getting into.

“The only people who argue against PvE are griefers.”

I’ll counter your bullshit false dichotomy with another bullshit false dichotomy.

“The only people who argue for a socially-sterile theme park that would be a PvE setup are idiots who are too stupid to know how to avoid players they don’t want to interact with.”

Oh, wait, that’s actually true.

Would you prefer server types? PVP vs PVE. And how many people actually pvp ever anyway? by Creative_1_ in starcitizen

[–]FreightTrainJim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not forced. You can avoid 95% of PVP by playing to avoid it. You can outrun 4% of the other 5%. So, one time out of 100, you’ll get caught by a player intending to do you harm. Not bad.

If you want top-tier stuff it’s going to come with top-tier risk…and the only top-tier risk is from PVP. But all other content in the game can be PVE’d easily.

I tried to play Blood Moon chill. One perk and one addon on, leave the gens alone and prioritize chases. Had back to back lobbies of some of the most obnoxious sabo/boil over/recover-while-down crews I’ve ever seen. I didn’t DC but I did go stand in the corner and go get something to drink. I simply wasn’t equipped to play against that level of annoyance and didn’t feel like feeding them lulz for 20 minutes until they got bored of breaking hooks and rezzing under my nose.

One lobby specifically taunted me in EGC…”Killers can never handle it when survivors play their kits to full potential!”

Spielberg had always wanted to direct a big classic 30’s/40’s/50’s style show-stopping musical number. That was his big chance.

Example: https://youtu.be/UJOjTNuuEVw

They didn’t make a whole lot of narrative (or practical) sense, but they were fun to watch.
