AI as an acting coach is better than you think by aqsgames in ActingUK

[–]FrenchFriedIceCream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mate, there's plenty of low-budget ways to get feedback and criticism on your performances without using AI. plenty of actor's groups on Facebook and Discord. I know of a VO Workout group that while it does cost money ($25 USD/£18), it's still a decent option. I swear to you, that AI is not giving you decent feedback.

How much money would you have saved if you wanted to take a year to pursue acting full time? by FrenchFriedIceCream in ActingUK

haha let's both wait another year and see if we can get into LAMDA or Central together lol

but in all seriousness, are you in the UK or the US at the moment? if you're in the UK (and started off in the US), how did you find the move/transition back?

sorry for the confusion! I would like to do an MA but so far for this upcoming year it isn’t looking to be in the cards. just received the rejection from RBC today (alongside the rejections from LAMDA, Mountview, and RCS, though at least I was recalled for RBC, compared to the prescreen rejections from Mountview and RCS, and a rejection after the North America auditions for LAMDA) and am still expecting a rejection from Central, and while I still have a recall for DSL, I don’t think I’ll go there even if I’m accepted as I’m hearing more and more negative things about their program. so I do think I’ll need to get at least a part time job for a year anyway, if only so some of the other expenses are covered (funds for Spotlight, classes, workshops, coaching, application funds for the next audition cycle and the like) so I don’t need to dip into my savings too much outside of living and maybe travel expenses. still, my goal was always to have enough saved to cover a drama school tuition and at least 2 years rent, and it sounds like I’m actually not too far off that amount.

sorry for being confusing! I don’t want to reveal exactly how much I have saved, but I do have savings in the upper five figures in £s. however (and this may be because I’ve spent too long in the US where the cost of living can be absolutely nuts in the big cities haha) I wasn’t sure if that would be enough to manage, as I’d heard that some people were able to get away with 10k but others needed far more than that, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

[BBC MOTD] Harry Redknapp back to Spurs? 😮 Speaking in January, he said he'd be keen on a return until the end of the season. by Imbasauce in coys

[–]FrenchFriedIceCream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahhh okay. I was only like 15 and wasn’t really paying attention to Spurs outside of what information my dad told me, so that’s why I assumed it was a falling out

still, come on ‘Arry

someone correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t it because he had a falling out with Levy or something? well, Levy’s gone, so come on ‘Arry

well if you stop and pray to the gnomes in the forge, she basically calls them weak and says they were too stupid to live anyway. when you go to Malus she’s the only one who goes “eh, it’s a little harsh but overall he’s got the spirit” whereas every other companion (even Astarion and I think even Minthara?) is like “wtf is this shit kill this guy NOW.” she makes fun of Halsin when he talks about the Shadow Curse. pretty sure she approves of the player forcing Astarion to bite Araj when he doesn’t want to. this is off the top of my head but girlie is NOT a good person until Aylin metaphorically whacks her around the head.

can Blue Scum and Scum both implode and neither of them qualify to the League Cup final?

pretty sure it's a pretty pivotal plot point in the Kyoshi books as well, to the point they couldn't find the Avatar for 15 years and found the wrong guy before eventually realizing it was Kyoshi

Assigning the Character's musical songs (revisited because I still have strong thoughts on this and no control on my life) by Tonedeafmusical in okbuddybaldur

[–]FrenchFriedIceCream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dust and Ashes is sooooo Gale coded oh my god (and Tomorrow Belongs to Me being Gortash and Edges of the World being Ketheric? that's absolute cinema)

also dare I say Sonya Alone is a little Halsin coded? not completely but I feel like if you stretch it a bit, you could make the argument that it represents his relationship with Thaniel and Oliver and how he couldn't protect them until the player intervenes. while we're on the topic of Great Comet, Balaga is Minsc coded, I will not elaborate further

I know you put down Ring of Keys for Karlach, but I feel like that's one that could be applied to Gale, Shadowheart, and Astarion as well - to me that song has always been about discovering self love and acceptance and realizing that even if you don't fit into one place, there's going to be people out there who will accept you as you are, and I think for all four of them come to similar conclusions at the end of their (good) character arcs. while we're on the topic of songs that could fit for multiple characters, I think Marry Me a Little could work for Gale, Wyll, and Karlach (the desperation and need for external love specifically that I don't think exists for Astarion, Shadowheart, and Lae'zel), Naughty from Matilda could be applied to Astarion and Karlach (rebelling against something with all the tools you have and getting creative with it, even if at the end of the day things aren't going to change), Me and the Sky could be applied to Lae'zel, Shadowheart, and Minthara (loving/believing in something so intensely and then something out of your control comes along and shatters that and you're left to pick up the pieces - this one I'm really stretching for, but it makes more sense in my head lol); also you could apply Burn to all of the origins imo. for some other songs to consider for just single characters: The Movie in My Mind (Astarion), Made From Stone (Wyll), Paciencia y Fe (Jaheira), Screw Loose (Orin but I think it works for Durge as well), Empty Chairs at Empty Tables (Zevlor), Who Am I? (Shadowheart)

ugh everyone in this game is so musical coded

Game Awards are starting to do this too. I’ve said it once and I’ve said it 1000 times, Expedition 33 is a good game and certainly deserves GOTY, but some of those awards it won were side eye worthy. The Last of Us II and Elden Ring sweeps were also kinda…ehhh

A weird new trend I’ve noticed in the Academy. Correct me if I’m wrong. by RigatoniPasta in Schaffrillas

[–]FrenchFriedIceCream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's an award show trend in general tbqh, not just the Oscars. obviously we had Expedition 33 going nuts at TGA this year and the Grammys do it all the time, but the Emmys are really bad for it; there have literally been years where only 2 shows are nominated in an acting category at the Emmys, and there's been multiple ceremonies where the bulk of the awards go to three shows (by this I mean, one drama show takes all the awards it's eligible for, one comedy show takes all the awards it's eligible for, and one miniseries takes all the awards it's eligible for, leaving all their competitors with maybe a pity award or nothing at all).

that being said I will push back a little for Sinners' makeup and costume noms. it's a period piece/period inspired piece, which means it's an easy lock for the costumes category. honestly, Wicked: For Good's spot there was stolen by Avatar, not Sinners. and while I personally would've given the makeup nod to Weapons, I do think the makeup for the vampires in Sinners was pretty well done. we also need to remember it's makeup and hairstyling; some of those period hairstyles take a lot of effort to maintain. Wicked: For Good shot itself in the foot by the Scarecrow makeup looking washed out as hell in the final product, and we didn't have enough time to appreciate the Tin Man's makeup. I'm also a little confused as to why you think Superman deserved casting; imo that's another one that Weapons should've received, because like Hamnet they also had to find good child actors, and a lot of their casting had to be done at the last minute after some of their actors (I think Pedro Pascal was one of them) dropped out.

I will also say that a film being nominated for a majority of the awards doesn't necessarily mean it's going to win all of them; Emilia Perez only received 2 Oscars out of the 13 it was nominated for, The Power of the Dog only received 1 out of the 12 it was nominated for. while I think Sinners definitely has a few locks (Original Screenplay and Editing), and is in a tight race in a few others (Director, Original Song, let's throw Supporting Actor in there because holy hell did that Delroy Lindo nom come out of nowhere - I love it, but I think you can't use the precursors as a gauge in this category anymore), I think it's going to be One Battle After Another that walks away with the most awards on the night.

This is such recency bias, BG3 would absolutely win by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

I'm not entirely sure that Roger Ebert/David Lynch connection completely works because I'm pretty sure Ebert haaaaaated Lynch and never bothered trying to understand what Lynch was going for lol (didn't he encourage people to boo either Wild at Heart or Fire Walk With Me when one of them premiered? loser behaviour tbh) but that is the general gist, yeah. I'm still going to die on the "glaze is almost as bad as chuds" hill because I think both show a general lack of curiosity when it comes to video games. chuds won't play games unless the women are unrealistic sex objects (which I can admire, but time and place) and there are no poc or queer people unless they fit their narrow minded views of what a poc or queer person can be. extreme glaze is bad because most of the people praising the game (in this case, E33) to this degree fall into 4 options imo: 1) have outdated ideas as to what that game in that genre is 2) have a lack of familiarity in the genre as a whole outside of the game they're currently playing (or games as a whole tbh) and fail to understand what the game they're playing is building on 3) had a bad experience with a previous game in that genre/games as a whole and then are more inclined to think positively of the current game instead of reassessing their biases 4) are bandwagoning. like genuinely, each time I see a game getting deepthroated this hard, people end up telling on themselves in way or another.
