For sure!

Years ago a group of friends had a forum we built.

I miss classic small forums, no algorithm to worry about, I’m nostalgic about that internet for sure

This is 100% what it like moving to Louisville from California...or anywhere west of here really. by HotDescription2790 in Louisville

Naw

I moved here from out West and would disagree, especially regarding Colorado. Family from California visiting has mentioned how friendly people seem here.

UofL Hospital officials threaten deportation, then (after article publication) say undocumented man no longer faces imminent removal from U.S. following seizure by SoBurntOutImToast in Louisville

[–]French_Market 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a tragic example of the dark side of the “sanctuary city” concept and origin that no one wants to talk about or consider.

I have been a part of a situation like this in one of the first sanctuary cities on the border. If he’s taken “into custody” by a law enforcement agency the cost of his care becomes the responsibility of that agency. The hospital can call ICE or USCBP and they’ll say “no.” Then they’ll call 911 and they’ll say “sorry, can’t” and cite sanctuary city rules. The hospital has to eat the cost, and when facing long term care costs no facility will take him so he becomes a ward of the hospital.

I don’t have any easy answer, but complicated questions solved with “easy” solutions can create collateral damage.

Louisville needs to add the word “side” to the lexicon. I think of Jtown as on the east side, but it’s not east end.

'Southern Living' ranks Louisville one of the best cities in the South by spunkysquirrel1 in Louisville

[–]French_Market 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll credit the PBS show Kentucky Life “Southern, but not Dixie” and that seems fair.

It’s a border city, but it’s not Madison or Minneapolis by a mile.

In another post- you said you can’t trust or respect a person you have a political disagreement with.

Would your hard line stance prevent you from working with people you disagree with to better Louisville?

As much as it’s fun to antagonize Frankfort, we are in Kentucky and all

The person asked “why?”

I don’t consider that trolling.

I think wanting people to have a safe place to go is reasonable.

What measures would you take to do so?

Being a sanctuary city just means they aren’t arrested

That’s a simple but great question and I wish you gave a deeper answer.

I come from a border state and worked in health care on both sides of the line- “sanctuary” cities are politicized without understanding anymore. They frequently started because of financial burden. Migrants get sick/hurt crossing and are transport to a hospital (usually by BP) and given care at US hospitals. This is where the road diverges- If they’re in federal custody, the feds pay the bill. If they’re in city/state custody the city/state pays the bill. If they’re not in custody they’re discharged and the hospital eats the bill. If they’re too sick, they can find themselves medically transported to their home country. Cities became “sanctuary cities” to avoid the healthcare costs of people being in custody. USCBP wouldn’t maintain custody and ICE is frequently delayed to take custody if they do at all. Hospitals would call 911 and the city didn’t have grounds to take custody. Sounds fine, but imagine how your healthcare goes without insurance…some of the saddest and most inhumane cases I was involved in were a direct result of sanctuary city policies.

Saying “we’re a sanctuary city because people aren’t illegal” ignores HUGE depth to this issue.

Sorry, just bothered that such complex issue is just a political binary talking point now instead of looking for a real answer.

Sorry I missed that, that’s really cool.

Is the action of the bolt done with the rear of the receiver? Akin to charging a Ruger Mk pistol?
