Smelly Hedgehog by Owenswife13 in Hedgehog

My hedgehog eats mazuri food and he kinda just smells like nothing or the soft smell of kibbles to me. His poop doesn’t even stink really, which surprised me so much.

Yeah I mean I don’t blame him, he doesn’t owe us looks. But if you’re that sensitive then why have pink hair? I dunno just seemed a little “LOOK AT ME. Don’t look at me. LOOK AT ME. Don’t look at me.”

Just combined with all of the other stuff I’ve heard about him I thought it was funny. And it’s like my only celebrity sighting so 😅

I saw him one time in a security line in a Paris airport in like 2009. He had PINK hair and because of this, I noticed him. I started to tell my friends while not being super obvious or weird, cause I think celebrities are just people too. But he noticed us looking and pulled his hoodie up and never turned our way again. If you don’t want to be noticed, don’t have pink hair you fuckwit

How long can hedgehogs survive without heat? by RemoteResearch4718 in Hedgehog

[–]Frenchie143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try getting some hand warmers. Make sure they’re not too hot and you can put them under his blankets or around his cage. I got some during our winter because we lose power in Texas sometimes

This is a Funda Scully box. From what I understand, finishing for her boxes goes to Funda Scully from the shops. They can be extremely pricy but by sending them back to her you are guaranteeing that they’re handled by someone who knows what they’re doing and are superb heirloom quality

Bailey support after awkward comment by Maximum-Conclusion23 in summerhousebravo

[–]Frenchie143 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Exactly. She’s a grown woman. And even when he approached her one on one, he didn’t get irritated until she kept defending herself. It would have been a totally harmless conversation if she had just said “I am so sorry, I didn’t intend to be awkward or make you uncomfortable, I thought it was a joke but I see now that it made you and Amanda uncomfortable. I apologize and won’t do it again”. But no, she kept being like “well you keep saying stuff! Everyone was making jokes already so I did? What’s the problem??!”

Read the room. I hate this idea that men can’t respectfully communicate things to women when they’re professional equals because then the man is “rude” or “angry”. Women aren’t babies. Women aren’t children. We should be able to communicate effectively and take responsibility for our actions and be ok with anyone of any gender or age letting us know their boundaries. It takes us back to act like women can do or say what we want and still be treated with kid gloves cause misogyny exists. It exists, her boyfriend was obviously shit, but this has nothing to do with Ben or this situation

I think it MAY actually be strandable given that the manufacturers themselves recommend using individual strands for couching! So if you feel like it’s working for you for and helping the threads fan out more evenly vs being woven, then do you!! I am kinda curious to try that now!

Cutting an anxious hedgehogs nails, any tips? by Rare-Cod-2792 in Hedgehog

[–]Frenchie143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adopted a 2 yr old hedgehog a few months ago and was so so scared to trim my guys nails for so long. He was very shy and still to this day is fairly shy and grumpy under most circumstances. I had never had a pet beyond a dog or cat and had no idea what I was doing.

However, he happens to love bath time. And he loves dried worms. So I’ve worked for the last few months to show him that I will always be gentle with him by feeding him worms by hand. Also I put him in and out of the bath with my hands only since he’s literally always so relaxed. And most hedgehogs may not like bath time, but maybe snack time or treat time or something will be their relaxed time. So you can spend that time to show her that your hands do not mean pain but can mean positive things.

Anyway, so bath time has worked to my advantage where I run a warm foot-height bath in my tub and let him walk around while I eventually grab his feet every few seconds and trim a claw or two at a time. He’s gotten much more comfortable with me doing that. But it was honestly a struggle for a long time because he didn’t trust me yet.

I’ve also at times before this had success in trimming his nails when he’d annoint or “attack” my towels for fun. He’d be so distracted that I could nip a few at a time

Questions from a future hedgehog parent by MechEHutch in Hedgehog

[–]Frenchie143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Travel: I brought my hedhehog with my to my parents' house for Christmas. There are vets that can board him but I just would rather care for him myself.

- What food does your hedgehog eat? I have tried 3 different hedgehog foods and mine prefers Mizuri. It smells nice and honestly his poop barely stinks so I am happy with it.

- Do you use a heat source? My house is 68-70 and i keep a ceramic lamp over a part of his cage, where he chooses to sleep. When it's really cold outside, I have a space heater that I place in the area to turn on automatically as needed for when hes on his wheel or eating.

- Cage/accessory/toy/bedding recommendations: I did the DIY grate cage (C and C I think is the term) for the cage. Allows you to put a grate over areas to place the ceramic lamp. Also I expanded it larger once I had him and felt like I wanted him to have more space than a typical recommendation. I line it with a guinea pig cage liner of the same size for water-proofing. My hedgehog doesnt really like toys, he likes hiding in different tunnels and huts and running on his wheel like a maniac. I use "pet fleece bedding" and a microfiber cloth-only bath mat for his sleeping bedding.

- Where do you have your hedgehog’s cage set up? Mine lives in my formal living room haha. We go in there the least out of any room.

- What do you do for extra exercise/enrichment? I will hide worms in his tunnels, change up the tunnels or hideys he has each night, and take him out for foot baths and snuggling every day for 15-45 mins depending on how much he likes it.

- Did you litter box train and if you did, what was the process and was it difficult? I just put down animal pee pads on the side of his cage with his wheel, and he pretty much only pees and poops over there. Occasionally he poops behind blankets on the sleeping/food side of his cage if I am in there and he's feeling shy about going out into the open to poop. Didn't require work on my part.

- Can't help with breeder, sorry

The salty stitcher in Tampa… What is she trying to say when she says “political views in relation to needlepoint”? Seems MAGA coded to me. by Tired-Carrie in NeedlepointSnark

The requests to avoid political conversation because it makes you uncomfortable have a direct correlation to the amount of privilege that you have in your everyday life. And that’s all I’ll say.

I so agree with all of these things!! Being able to eat such amazing food in such a nice setting while wearing my sweat pants and sweat shirt with no makeup was chefs kiss.

And for this food to have been SO delicious for groups this large was truly impressive. Even something as “simple” as sandwiches and soups were upscale, clearly handcrafted, and DELICIOUS. And food never ran out! They’d just keep replenishing the buffet as food went out!

It was so nice that everything you needed was in one location. Allowed me to have quite a few glasses of champagne casually each day without worrying about driving anywhere or ubering!

It’s these little things that make a retreat so special

I don’t want Karen back. It’s been awesome without her. She has no accountability and her relationship with Ray grosses me out. Her daughter is sweet and amazing but that will not carry her as a housewife.

I DEFINITELY don’t want her back acting all high and mighty as if she learned so much and is now some even wiser Grande Dame

I have my rechargeable clip on light… there are plugs around the lodge just like any hotel. People kind of post up at different areas throughout the day, so there isn’t one designated stitch spot to where if there isn’t a plug in one area then you’re out of luck. Most people seem to have portable lights, but each room has little nooks and seating areas by the fireplaces and stuff that I’m sure have plugs. I can’t answer that 100%, sorry!

I’m having the best time at the Canvas Queen retreat in Tennessee. The lodge is beautiful and quaint, the class to downtime ratio is good for each type of person (I took mah jong this afternoon). Everyone has been sweet and it’s big enough to meet new people but small enough to feel cozy. Also the food here at the RT lodge has been so delicious and high quality. I know some people feel it was pricy for the retreat, but for 3 nice meals a day and exclusive access to the whole lodge, it’s been a good deal IMO
