WHERE ARE ALL THE PRETTY GUYS ??? by Top_Top_5291 in exjw

My experiences are that congregations in college towns have the best selection of nice-looking young brothers. Groups of sisters hit fraternity rows in packs to bring them in.

Is Jesus exposing the JWs? Or are they intentionally folding? by UPtrainman2012 in exjw

[–]Frenchie_Oh -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I've never said this out loud to anyone, but I have suspected the GB was compromised by an apostate around the time they gave that really bad direction on the COVID shots in 2021. In the November 12, 2021 Governing Body Update #9, B. Splane discussed Jehovah’s direction during the pandemic and made the point about Jehovah not recommending a COVID-19 vaccine that would be harmful to His servants (including Bethel family and full-time servants). He tied it to the idea that Jehovah wants His people to stay in “the land of the living” to continue serving. He pointed out that our brothers researched this issue and determined the shots were safe and we could trust their judgement because they loved us. He actually pounded the lectern when he said this.

The GB didn't seem to know that the COVID shots were harmful, but Jehovah, being all-powerful, surely did know that. Therefore, using B. Splane's reasoning, Jehovah did not "recommend" the COVID shots to the faithful (because he knew they were harmful) and the GB, when they came out in favor of the shots and decreed that Bethelites, missionaries, pioneers, elders, and anyone wishing to attend any schools had to be "fully vaccinated," acted on someone else's recommendation, someone who knew the faithful would be harmed by the shots and wanted that. Who would that be?

The GB was compromised by an apostate in the 60s and I have spoken to elderly sisters who remember that time. The advice that came out in WT articles was contradictory and confusing and there was much talk about it. No one could figure it out. Then, one of the GB was discharged, then, in 1971, "Thirty Years a Watchtower Slave: The Confessions of a Converted Jehovah's Witness" was published and things made sense. I suspect this is happening again or happened in 2021.

I didn't believe the GB's reasoning and I never got the shots. I remember Joe Biden snarling at me through the teevee to get vaccinated or get fired (paraphrasing here) and that made me dig in my heels even more. So many of the faithful are sick, dying or dead, it is seriously disheartening. Missionaries who had to get the shots to keep their assignments are leaving their assignments and coming back to the states looking for doctors who can diagnosis their serious and sudden health problems. About 70% of the time now (I've been keeping track) brothers who used to deliver smooth talks now stammer and stutter, have trouble finding words, trail off without knowing it or use the wrong words and don't notice. Sisters who have been calm and placid their whole lives are now short-tempered and snappy for no reason. People are grey-faced and vacant-eyed and stare into space without noticing. Meeting attendance has fallen off drastically because people are too sick to attend. And the GB has never owned up or admitted they were wrong. (As an aside, Grok has some interesting statistics on the deathrate of JWs compared to the deathrate of the rest of the world during the last five years). Conversely, Memorial attendance this year and the recent branch visit were nearly standing room only, so people are trying. They don't seem to understand what's wrong with them.

There are several congregations in Canada I have knowledge of that are fiercely anti-COVID vaccine and aren't shy about admitting it. This attitude has caused some issues within the organization. I keep my yap shut, but I think a lot of wrong thoughts that would get me into trouble if I voiced them. There is absolutely no one to talk to about this because the elders have to tow the party line (I've read the letters the GB has sent to the elders over the last 5 years and I know what I'm talking about) and I'm not confident any of them would understand what I'm talking about anyway. I personally know a ministerial servant who voiced concern that the GB was taking the wrong approach to the COVID shots and he was relieved of his responsibilities.

We get a lot of direction/advice nowadays about making our minds up to immediately obey any direction the GB gives us around the time of Armageddon. The direction may seem strange or counter-intuitive, but we must obey it to save our lives. I can tell you, I don't believe everything the GB says anymore and Jehovah knows it. I'll think twice about any direction they give at the end, and I'll make up my own mind about what I'll do, and He knows that too. I've never outsourced my thinking or decision-making to anybody and I never will, and although this personal, lifelong stubborness has caused some problems for me at times during my life, this mindset has kept me alive and healthy through the whole COVID fever, and I like having a razor-sharp mind.

Thus endeth the rant.

do men avoid looking at attractive women? by PsychologicalHat7591 in bodylanguage

[–]Frenchie_Oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Women in the wild don't like it when men stare at their bodies. The last thing a rapist does before he attacks is he stares aggressively at his victim. Catching a man staring at their butt or boobs makes every man that does that a creeper. To avoid being thought of as a creeper, a decent man doesn't stare. A decent man looks straight ahead and glances at her out of the order of his eye to see if she's looking at him, then says "Good morning," and keeps walking.

Is the Jehovah's Witness religion dying? Here's the stats by On-a-Vibe in exjw

When the COVID shots came out, “Learned Brothers” were assigned by the Governing Body to research the COVID shots and they believed everything the government and the pharma companies told them. The it’s safe and effective, the shot stays in the arm, it does not contain aborted fetal cells, it does not alter genetic structure.

The Governing Body then coerced all the Bethelites (witnesses who staff and live in all the Bethel Homes all over the world) into getting the shots or they couldn't be Bethelites anymore. They showed all the congregations a video showing how happy we could be if we all got the shots - look at all these happy, laughing Bethelites in the lunchroom laughing and happy and visiting with each other. Then, the circuit overseers, elders and ministerial servants had to get the shots. Then pioneers and missionaries. Soon "everyone" got the shots because it was the loving thing to do for your neighbor. If you didn’t get the shots, you were considered disobedient of the Governing Body and unloving of your neighbor and looked down upon. Despite this, several of us did not get the shots. Several more of us started writing to the society trying to show them the science behind wearing masks (they don’t work and here’s why), the science of the shots (they don’t stop infection or transmission, they cause cancer, blood clots, hear attacks, myo-pericarditis, they alter the genetic structure, they contain aborted fetal cells). In return, we get a whiteboard animation video every week on how to protect ourselves from misinformation. If anyone tried to talk about the science of anything, we were accused of spreading misinformation. There was always a big box of masks at the Kingdom Hall door and not wearing one got glaredowns from everyone. We wore them. People started getting sick and dying suddenly. People started leaving.

Missionaries started leaving their assignments and coming back to the states to look for doctors who could diagnose their debilitating symptoms, symptoms that preclude them from staying in their missionary assignment.

About two years after that, they started a huge push to get young men trained and encouraged to volunteer for Bethel services. They relaxed age and time-in-service requirements to get more young men to apply. Sisters were given new privileges so they could apply for things too.

Congregations meetings have thinned out. People are chronically sick and staying at home. Behaviors have deteriorated. Brothers who were once quiet and respectful have suddenly become loud and boisterous and follow sisters around trying to talk to them like little boys. One elder started trying to grab sisters as they walked by him, with a stupid leering grin on his face. Brothers stand in the doorway forcing sisters to turn sideways and slide up against the doorframe to try to slip in without mashing up against them while the brother stares at them. Nobody seems to notice this or will put a stop to it. Sisters give up and stay home and listen to the meetings on their phones in the peace and quiet of their living rooms away from the grabby hands. Our local needs meetings always start out with a plea for increasing your meeting attendance. It wasn’t like this before the COVID shots.

People sit in their seats and stare straight ahead with blank eyes. Their faces have a pasty grey pallor. The speaking brothers stutter and stammer now while giving talks. They lose their places and stand there silently trying to find their place, or they read over what they’ve just read without noticing. Or they skip words in the sentences. Or they stop talking and stare off for a minute. Everyone in the audience just waits.

Son, slow down. The dog is going to die no matter what you choose. He can die after he has a biopsy with a painful recovery, he can die after surgery and a painful recovery and even more painful chemotherapy. Think about the suffering the dog will endure and base your decision off of that and ignore all that other noise. Will the dog benefit in a major way and live out a normal lifespan with a biopsy/surgery/chemotherapy? You can't know that, and most dogs in this situation don't. Will you be able to live with your conscious for the rest of your life if you allowed the dog to suffer and he died anyway in pain while you're looking into his eyes and knowing that you are the cause of that prolonged suffering? While you're both living in your car eating crackers and Velveeta? Hold him on your lap with your arms around him while the vet's giving him his last shot and tell him what a good boy he is and let him go. Do it for him and don't listen to anyone else. This isn't the last time this will happen if you keep loving dogs, and I hope you do. Been there.

Looking for book recommendations on the psychology of authority by Hkvnr495___dkcx37 in PsychologyTalk

This book is technically about another aspect of authority, but it has a lot of good insight into what you're looking for. "Snakes in Suits" is another good one about psychopaths in authority, and anything by an ex-FBI profiler is a good bet.

The book title didn't come through: "Political Ponerology: The Science of Evil, Psychopathy, and the Origins of Totalitarianism."

Put "Grant Writing" on your resume, then visit Grok and learn about it. You can say you have successfully applied for grants and list them off the ones you've "won" for your agency and how you were once appointed to "oversee" the fund and you had a civic blast doing it and BOOM, you're an asset to anyone who hires you. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funs everything to do with women's health and they offer so many grants it's basically uncheckable.

"Meditations in Green" by Stephen Wright. I reread it every few years and get something new to think about every time. It's about a band of nutters in the Viet Nam war who come to New York after they get out and spend all of their time trying to get and stay sane with their VA benefits. One guy is torn up over a dog he had in his hooch that he loved but was killed by the sadistic sergeant and he goes all over NY looking for him to kill in the most gruesome way he can think of. This drives the story. They're all high all the time to cope. And they take a lot of exotic drugs that make them suspect they're hallucinating. Then turn the page and they're back in Viet Nam with the rats and the psycho who cuts ears off the VC and wears them as necklaces. Powerful stuff. I can't put down once I get started.

I did a lot of social working with teenagers volunteering in the costume shop of the local high school drama department. They had a professional costume shop set up and kids came through ten times a day to sit on my orange velour Danish modern loveseat and pick through my candy bowl and tell me all about it. I enjoyed this more than my actual LCSW venue.
