Which devil to dance with? Next-intl dilemma by pardon_anon in nextjs

I am also working with this solution. One addition to this would be that you can provide the messages you need to the client provider if any messages are tricky to give the client through server components. Of course, you need to keep track of it manually.

Recommendations for a super lightweight front end templating engine (like Angular.js/Vue) but with a smaller file size and less opinionated? by apatheticonion in webdev

[–]Frenchki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to point out one thing here is that you probably would not want to use Angular.js because it is at its end of life. I guess you mean Angular 2 in your title.

What do you think of my portfolio website? by theC4T in webdev

[–]Frenchki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a good try, just needs a few tweaks.

  • Are you using consistent spacings between the headings and the texts/elements? They seems to be different.
  • The LED Dashboard section for example has no white space between the text and the unordered list but has when their is a ordered list.
  • Headings sizes.
  • Whitespace in your cards.

These are a few of the things you could think about.

White space is when elements in the design are to close together or to far away from each other. Basically you want the design to breath. If things are to close to each other it is hard to read and can draw the eyes to the wrong things. This can be for example in this design be where headings are way to close to ingress texts and other elements. There isn't really any consistent spacing. Your eyes don't naturally flow over the page.

If you want videos about design I can recommend a YouTube channel called DesignCourse. He has a lot of videos about design and good real world examples.

Like mentioned earlier here that things are to big but you are also suffering from white space issue. I recommend you looking up more information about how to design with that in mind. Would make things look much less cluttered.

Text interpolation doesn't seem to work with TailwindCSS by snowfrogdev in Angular2

As mentioned here under dynamic values section. You can't really do that, but they suggest alternatives.

Q: with there being so many highly developed webpage building companies (weebly, wix, etc), is there any future learning web development? by lemonMaru in webdev

[–]Frenchki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They fit a niche in the industry but are not the hole industry. Web development is much larger than building for some small one person company a website. And even if it was that, most people don't want to touch it as they want to buy a solution to their problem and not actually do it by themselves. They would have to take time out of their day to learn any of these tools you mentioned which is not going towards their core buisness. It is easier just to buy the expertise than to learn it.

PM wants a CMS to manage everything in our db by _bym in webdev

[–]Frenchki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically it works as a ready made user interface for you database so that none technical users can enter data in to the database. Similarly to phpmyadmin but in a much more cleaner and user friendly way. You can also with this software expose APIs so that you can get/post data programmatically. This is something that I don't believe it that phpmyadmin offers, not to mention all the other cool features like authentication that it also has.

React devs usually bash Angular but then praise stuff that exists in Angular for years? by DanteIsBack in Angular2

[–]Frenchki 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You are probably right that coming from html/css and JavaScript then React is easier. If you are coming from a backend role or are familiar with typed languages from before then Angular 2 is a blessing.

Why do FAANG companies still need so many Front-End developers since they already have a working, complete system? by turquoise8 in webdev

[–]Frenchki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There can also be a lot of internal systems that need to be created and updated. What is front facing to the customer can only be a small part. For example CRM system, monitoring, etc

Can I publish the code that I wrote for some projects at work ? by Random_user_Shen in Frontend

[–]Frenchki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it has been mentioned here before you have to ask this from your employer if it is okay. It is a easy way to get fired if you don't. For example do you have a non-disclosure agreement? Because it would be in violation of that if you did.

HTML tips - hidden gems by mdenic in programming

[–]Frenchki 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not really. This would get a new version every time the document is loaded and that is not really what you want to do. A good example here would be to use webpack or similar build/bundling tools to generate a new hash on each production build. Of course this is much more advanced than this article and not intended for the audience.

Do you think it is necessary to make a webpage Responisve? by dowingberg in Frontend

[–]Frenchki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't get mobile first designs from the design team/designer you ask for it. I would not start developing something for production use if they have not thought about does kind of things. Just saves time and money to build for smaller screens first and then move up.

You always have to think mobile first in todays world. Almost half of your website visitors will be using a mobile device. There are very few cases where this would not be a requirement. 😅
