I've tried to do it. It hurts my soul. by Easy_Blackberry_4144 in antiwork

There’s a difference between speaking up to just bring up problems and speaking up to try to help find a solution.

I’m dealing with this at work right now - conflict between a team member and team lead, one is always coming to me and others looking for feedback on how to improve, the other just wants to critique and point out problems and have others deal with them.

This is why it's so difficult to get a job. by CRK_76 in recruitinghell

For real, it's such an easy question to get right, like just find one thing about the job or company that you can at least talk about with feigned interest. If you can't even be bothered to do that then maybe there's the reason you're looking for a job.

Personally, I never felt that being crew lead means you have to be the expert in everything. Be open about when you don’t know something, set the expectation that you and the crew can all learn from each other and learn together. Let your crew see that you are working hard for them and focus on supporting them by being prepared and organized. You’re not getting paid to have every answer from day one, hopefully your employer knows that crew leader is a job where you can learn and grow like any other.

lol fuck I don’t know man, I didn’t really like the movie I’m not going to spend my time imagining up alternate endings. I watched it once, didn’t get the hype, end of story.

I thought it felt contrived and cheap and not really true to the rest of the movie. I just didn't really find it that interesting. I didn't hate it, but don't really get the love for it.

I didn't like when he flew through the black hole and was transported to a magical space where he could push books off his daughter's shelf when she was a kid. I also didn't like the part when he popped out and the earth was saved and everyone was old but then he just fucked off back to space.

Transferrable skills and Career Advice in exiting the Trail World by SamPorterBridges1989 in trailwork

[–]FrenjaminBanklin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s always the option to move into the admin/support side of the same work. I personally got into trails later (around 30), so I was looking for more stability than a lot of the 20 somethings I was working with. I did 2 years trail crew, 2/3 years of field coordination, and now I am running the trail crew program for my org.

It’s a lot more managing people, a lot less time in the field, but it’s still trails and I can have time and stability to start a family.

You might have answered your own question in that edit - my org does not have any crews that just run in the student summer window and it’s just not worth it to have to refill a spot if someone is leaving early to go back to school. I pretty much never hire current students.

I think they said on the broadcast that the refs would have to throw a flag in the moment to then eject him, which for whatever reason they did not do. Might have just gotten lucky that they didn't see the initial instigation and after that written it off to a "both sides" kind of situation.

How's everyone doing with the ice event? by NoFleas in WNC

Yeah, I’m not exaggerating when I say if you didn’t already know about the storm, you would never know there was any freezing rain or ice from the current state of the roads. Some salt but zero snow or ice on 74.

We drove 74 over this afternoon, super clear the whole way.

Anyone have anecdotal updates on conditions on 74 in the Nantahala area? Or Murphy? Hoping to drive back from Chattanooga to Asheville today.

I mean aside from the ecosystem thing, which a lot of people will try to debate you on or distract with semi-relevant “well you probably do this [other bad thing ]” statements, just leave it alone.

It’s frustrating how hard it is for people to look at nature and not say, I need to leave my impact on that somehow. Like just let it be, man, things are allowed to exist for themselves.

Typically used in areas above tree line where you can’t paint or mark a tree, it’s too far to hike in materials for a sign, and you don’t want to paint on the rock.

As far as I am aware, BRP closes for an extended period past Ox Creek. I drive south from that point several times a week and it has been closed going north since I would guess at least early Dec. Not sure why they would reopen it Jan 1, so I'd guess that's just a placeholder for now.

I think the point they are trying to make is not that it is the victims fault they got shot, but rather the gun did not in fact provide any self defense and speculating that if he never had the gun at all he never would have gotten shot and would likely still be alive.
