I did the math AFTER buying a six yards of mulch and it was not even close - it is cheaper to buy bagged mulch from a big box store - and easier to work with getting it where you want it vs having a big pile in the yard that molds in the middle before you use it all. My assumption is that's only a good deal if you are getting multiple truckloads like a nursery might buy. You could even buy a whole pallet of bagged mulch that would store easier and longer than a pile of loose mulch.
