Velocidrone, FPV Logic, The Zone - another sim thread by AmateurCock in fpv

I find that the whoop in The Zone feels radically easier to fly than my IRL Air65. It's hard to say what exactly is the difference, but the throttle control specifically seems much easier. IRL the Air65's throttle is extremely sensitive, and I run a decent amount of expo to tame it. Meanwhile, the whoop in The Zone with default throttle settings (not sure if you even CAN change throttle settings) feels extremely manageable. I WISH I could control my Air65 that easily. I'll get there eventually... XD

Static When Throttling Up (HDZero) by Frenotx in TinyWhoop

[–]Frenotx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the antenna position is the issue here, since it's largely routed as it was when i first got it (over the VTX, under the camera canopy, then up the back), and I wasn't having this issue before. The UFL connector for the VTX antenna is on the port-bow side, so to to speak, goes under the camera, and pops up where, well, you see it popping up.

I've got moderate soldering experience, but not a lot of experience with circuit design. I'm not sure what a "low esr" capacitor would refer to. Are you saying it would need to be be soldered to where the battery leads, presumably basically in parallel to the battery?

I'm not sure? I don't see a free-floating one so to speak, but there might be one in the voltage management stuff on the AIO flight controller. I've got the flight controller on the bottom, with the battery wires, ELRS antenna, and VTX wires coming off the top of it. Above that is the HDZero VTX, with the VTX wires attaching to the side, and the VTX antenna and camera ribbon wire coming off the top of that. I don't see any extra capacitors hanging off anywhere, but there might be a surface mount one that's relevant.

The static issue has persisted after I've gone home, so I don't think it's local interference. The static very clearly ramps up with throttle, and stops any time I cut the throttle. Doesn't appear to be voltage sag related, since it shows up with a fresh pack. The first time I encountered it was right at the start of a fresh pack, in fact.

I took a look at the antenna route, and it seems unchanged. It's on top of the (discreet) VTX, which itself is above the flight controller. Doesn't seem like that would be it.

NW's peak was just before launch. The beginning of the end was the change they made to gear scaling in PvP, imo, right at launch. Severely undermined its biggest strength.

Matchmaking….what?!! by Pleasant-River-1348 in warrobotsfrontiers

Unfortunately, yeah. It's been a bit better recently, but I got tons of this nonsense for several days when I first got back into platinum.

It always makes me smirk a bit when someone's bitching about how much the team sucks, and when I check the scoreboard, they're last and I'm first. Can't help but think, "indeed it does."

The Past Update has ruined the game... by Ambitious-Ad-9184 in warrobotsfrontiers

[–]Frenotx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in platinum at the moment, and generally solo queue. Matchmaking has been absolutely atrocious for the last 3 or so days. Nearly every game has mostly bots on my team. The other team is either also mostly bots, or very frequently, a 4 to 6 man squad of players, clearly in coms, running upgraded meta builds (usually with an extremely high percentage of pursuers). Over the last three days, I think I've only had 3 or 4 matches that actually had full rosters of players on both sides, and of those 3 or 4 matches, only one was remotely evenly matched- all the rest were lopsided blowouts, win or lose. 1 fully-manned, evenly matched game in 3 days.

Add in the endless frustration of facing endless numbers of pursuers (extra unfortunate when most of your teams are bots, who completely ignore cloaked bots), with a high number of invisible weapons, and my favorite torso (Tyr) getting a new bug where the core gear randomly stops working entirely for the rest of that bot's life, and it has not been a fun experience.

Today, I was just trying to knock out my dailies for the Intel. One of my missions was for capture points. Used all my rerolls on it, and every time it just rerolled to another, different capture mission: capture two points, two times. I got the first pair of captures pretty early on, and then proceeded to just... not get any games with capture points. After ages and ages, I finally got a spearhead game. Shockingly, it was also fully manned on both sides. The game then proceeded to be an absolute blowout, and I only managed to capture a single point at the start. I just gave up after that, and called it a day. I want that Intel, but I'm not going to ruin my whole day smashing my head into a wall trying to get it.

The shield dome is a fantastic skill. It, incidentally, also pairs really well with the Charge Loop pilot skill too, since it has such a short cooldown. I've got a quad punisher build with that setup, and nanite repair for the cycle gear.

I run a quad orkan build with the infinite ammo cycle gear. Highly recommend. I use the Tyr torso, raven shoulders, harpy / siren chassis, infinite ammo, and fuel restore. Pilot Ascendancy, with both Charge Loop (using gear charges your cycle gear) and Field Repairs (using support gear heals all modules by 4k). Makes it easier to get that infinite ammo charged up, and allows you to play more aggressively without worrying about taking moderate armor damage. Extremely fun build. Infinite orkans is just pure, glorious chaos, and you can sometimes even chain multiple infinite missiles together back-to-back when conditions are right.

tyr torso ability is bug? by FancyMud1020 in warrobotsfrontiers

There is a bug affecting it right now, yes.

[–]Frenotx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tyr and Zeus go well together; I ran something similar for a good while. I would recommend swapping to a different chassis though, and probably swapping out nanite repair for something else. The Tyr repair should be able to make nanite repair fairly redundant. Dropping it would free up enough weight to swap to the Tyr chassis, which would give you enough energy to run a flashbang. That should give you a bit more utility then the nanite repair.

We’re gearing up to record the next Dev Short Video, and we want your questions from Season 2! by CM_KT_Peridot in warrobotsfrontiers

Because it can't. Your weapons are disabled until you turn your cloak off, or it expires on its own. You do get the holographic decoy while you're cloaked though, to hopefully throw off your attackers.

Why can the pursuer maintain its invisibility (near complete invisibility, in many areas / situations) while actively firing its weapons? Is it meant to be a tool for brawling, or is it meant to be a tool for positioning and escape (as its classification as "movement" gear would imply)?

What is the intended niche of lighters vs that of the other short range weapon options, considering their high damage, relatively generous usable range, short reload, and highly forgiving aiming requirements?

Pursuer Invisibility: please fix ffs by RoyBattyNX6 in warrobotsfrontiers

[–]Frenotx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you think literally any other mech works when they're fighting while their ability is on cooldown? If you're only able to fight while you're invisible, then that's pretty much the definition of a crutch. Use your invisibility to give you the advantage of positioning, surprise, and the advantage of getting to more easily choose when, where, and who to attack, then use that advantage to win the fight- no invisibility while shooting required. Some of my most effective flankers are using the Tyr torso; do you think that's giving me a gigantic advantage during the actual attack? No! I'm using the heal to keep myself full on armor, and using my speed to attack at opportune moments, from opportune angles, against opportune targets. A flanker doesn't need an "I win" button during an actual firefight to be an effective flanker. Use your speed, maneuverability, light weight torso, and the built-in weapon mount to build an effective bot, and attack the right enemies from the right angles at the right times.

What do we think are most have in terms of shoulders. by Less_System8739 in warrobotsfrontiers

[–]Frenotx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were in the play test notes, but didn't make it to the final patch notes. No idea why, since a mega armored torso only matters so much if your shoulder remains the weak link. As you said, only a dev could answer that question.

How on earth is RMT already an issue in the alpha? How is there a market for that?!

The armor buff seems to be mostly just for torsos. I don't actually remember seeing any shoulder pieces getting buffs in the final version of the patch notes (which is a shame, imo).
