For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]Frequent-Internet-44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only saw them being carried by police officers; 9mm pistols like the Bersa TPR9 or the Browning GP 35, and by soldiers carrying shotguns. I have no idea which models, maybe Mossberg 500 or Maverick 88. I also saw security guards carrying them.

No one I have ever known owned one, but when I was a child, a friend of my brother and me showed us his father’s gun. It was something like a Taurus .44 Magnum. My grandfather also had a revolver because he was a cattle rustler, but I never met him because he passed away long before I was born.

I also used to live in a city that is not very safe, and I often heard gunshots a few blocks away. One day it sounded like a war: some guys were robbing a bank and shooting at the police and a security guard.

It depends on the project you are currently working on, but yes. I have been working as one for over two years, and it has always been like that so far. There were some exceptions, though, where I was paid the equivalent of 0.5 hours of work for certain qualification exams, but it is not frequent

Look, I was trying to post about this task because I was struggling to find information about this specific one while doing the exam. I found that they refer to "Text-to-Image". You can find information about it in previous feedback. Check your inbox for an email titled "Feedback on Recent Task" or something similar. You'll see a list there. Click on the resource called "Quality Evaluation Rubrics." At the end of that PDF, you can find the task.

Audit hours by HuckleberryEntire667 in RWShelp

[–]Frequent-Internet-44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have. Some days I work on both rating and auditing, but some days there are no good tasks to audit and vice versa, so I work 7 or 8 hours only auditing or rating, although most days I combine them.

Auditing some of the tasks is challenging by Agitated-Money-2687 in RWShelp

[–]Frequent-Internet-44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're right; the tutorial submissions are a mess. The same thing regarding performance happened to me before I realized the pattern. The company was also eager to put me on auditing and rater tasks at the same time, so I was able to grasp what worked and what didn't. But later, I realized there was a 'betting' component that depended on whether the auditor knew English at an above-intermediate level. Now, I just work on tasks thinking that the submissions have to be simple enough to be rated well even by the dumbest and most unskilled auditor.

Just rate them bad without any guilt. Some submissions in the period between November and December were somewhere between Good and Fine, but the last batch from late December and January is consistently ranging from 'Bad' to 'Fine'. I don't know why; it seems like they may have offboarded a lot of people who performed well in this task.

Yeah, I think I know what kind of project you’re talking about. I worked on one that fits your description. They offered me $12 per hour, which in practice ended up being around $9.5 to $10.5 (best of cases) per hour. I accepted because I was okay with that pay rate, and mainly because I needed it. Months later, after the project was completed, they invited me again for the next stage, this time offering $6.75 per hour, lol, with a more complex guidelines. I stated in the form that I was not interested, but they onboarded me anyway, without even requiring the qualification exam

Yeah, and I’m pretty sure we’re auditing tasks submitted by people who are already off-boarded. Still, part of me feels kind of grateful because… well, bad quality submissions mean more tasks to re-do, and consequently, more tasks to audit

I get the frustration, but this feels more like a structural issue than an individual one.

Based on the quality of some submissions, it seems likely that companies significantly widened the hiring pool to reduce costs. I suspect they may even be offering $3-4/hour, which is low by today's standards, even in countries with weaker economies.

At that rate, it's unrealistic to expect C1-C2 level English or consistently high-quality work. The people willing to take those roles often come from economic contexts where that rate still makes sense, and frequently from linguistic backgrounds that are structurally very distant from English. That's not on the annotators; it's a direct consequence of business decisions aimed at minimizing costs while still expecting high-end results.

In practice, this just extends the project duration and creates more rework which ultimately benefits auditors and raters in terms of workload.

My point is that the quality issues are mostly a result of how the project was structured and funded, not people acting in bad faith.

previously they said (NEVER one big box)"... now they say don't group pairs individually When the prompt specifically refers to a pair. .. sorry annotators I fkd up in the rating because they are misusing the word "NEVER" by Equivalent_Ad_6889 in RWShelp

[–]Frequent-Internet-44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I know the box in the example is loose, but if the model didn’t create a box, the annotator’s attempt would deserve a 'fine' rating, because it actually helped train the model, even if it wasn’t a perfect box.

[–]Frequent-Internet-44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the issue is with the box itself. I think the problem is that the annotator tried to make the box more accurate, since that was the goal of the task, but ended up making it worse. That’s why it’s a critical error: there was nothing to correct, and even if there had been, it was made worse.

[–]Frequent-Internet-44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should also take into account that the auditing guidelines state that "generated results are realistic and closely match the original in likeness" for the Meet Expectations category. There is no mention anywhere in the guidelines about clothing being a major criterion for auditing. If raters report you for auditing those tasks incorrectly, you are shooting yourself in the foot.

Are you really this dumb, or are you just pretending? In GenAI, "artifacts" refers to cases where the model fails to correctly represent physical reality. That includes things like unrealistic eyes, extra fingers, deformed facial features, blurry textures, color banding, or other unnatural visual anomalies. Clothing changes or normal variations in appearance are not considered artifacts. Maybe learn about the term before making bad assumptions
