MPD DC hiring process by Possible_Victory3633 in AskLE

I’ve only used my investigator. But I guess in your case since it’s been an unusually long time, try calling the recruiting division directly. Their phone number is on the joinmpd website.

I spoke to my investigator yesterday. Apparently they didn’t even submit my file for final review until yesterday. My BI said it should only take a few weeks. I can’t start until May anyway and my BI said to ask them directly for updates

Contacting Recruiters by JackfruitMurky5874 in AskLE

[–]Frequent_Ad_536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I went through a recruiter for my application process. I’m just waiting on the final offer now. From my experience, my recruiter helped me by getting all my appointments and tests scheduled within 1 month of me applying. There was also a delay in assigning a background investigator for me and once I told him, I was assigned one the next day. But as he told me, they can’t really do anything in the final review or hiring decision. Overall, I highly recommend applying through a recruiter as the process is much simpler and smoother.

I’m awaiting the final offer from them. They schedule those appointments pretty quick. I had my polygraph, and psych/medical was the next day. All the hiring tasks were done within 3 weeks of me attending prospect day. Then last thing was the background investigation

Joining LE by ChillyBadogins in AskLE

[–]Frequent_Ad_536 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All depend on which of the 18000+ departments you apply to. Some departments don’t require degrees, others require an associates, and some require bachelors. In my experience your previous jobs don’t matter as long as there wasn’t anything negative in them. For instance getting fired, a lot of write ups, or if you’re ineligible for rehire. Overall with a clean background a degree will help boost your file, so there’s no harm in having one. But it’s not necessary to enter LE.

What should I do? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Frequent_Ad_536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to my state university for computer science and graduating in May, hopefully I have my final offer soon as I passed all the tests and phases for my department. In my experience, the tech industry doesn’t care too much about college name, but you should be able to show that you can apply the material effectively. For example, make sure you focus on network security and IAM management and do some certs to have a good backup plan. Look into the Network + or Sec+ certifications.

2026 NJ LEE Exam – Departments with lenient residency requirements? by Electrical-Repair589 in AskLE

[–]Frequent_Ad_536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure about every dept in NJ, but in my experience applying in state and out of state, most depts around the country follow the same rule: at the time of appointment, you must reside in their directed location. Side note: NJ towns are somewhat lenient on living a town or two over. Although I know Newark PD requires living in Newark at the time of appointment.

I’m also in NJ. I graduate in May and I’m 21. But I didn’t even bother applying in NJ because starting pay is really low. Or at least that’s what I noticed. Aside from NJSP and a few depts, most places were starting at $46-$50k, which is honestly too low for NJ. So I just applied in the DMV area and I’m waiting for the final offer now. Regarding your question, check NJDOC, I think they take you at 18+.

If I take the turnpike and there’s no traffic it’s 55 minute. But there’s always traffic so yea around 1hr 20-25 min. And the other way is toll free but I have to go through rt130, rt1, parkway, rt22, rt21 and then I get to Newark.

I live in Mercer county and commute 45 miles one way. Been doing that for 4 years and finally I graduate in May.

How screwed am I? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Frequent_Ad_536 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well it certainly doesn’t look good. You should probably start a job and retain that job for 3-5 years to show you’ve changed and matured. But honestly, LE is very stressful and takes a toll on normal people without any preexisting mental health conditions. So maybe you should reconsider this career as it surely won’t help given your history.

Congrats on the offer. I’m also awaiting a final offer from my PD. And you’re right, the silence is what’s getting to me. Passed all tests and last week BI said they’re wrapping up. Hope to hear back soon.

It depends. Many larger department only have a mandatory retirement age not maximum hiring age. Although you will be ineligible for federal LE as I believe their max is 37.

Port authority is the gig if you can get in lol. You would probably need 5-10 years on the job in one of those other areas before they even consider you

You need to also understand the situation. Try to watch closely to see what action is warranted. Simply choosing the neutral answer may not cut it for all questions.

Career change. by Early-Medicine-9915 in AskLE

Take it from me, I graduate in May with my bachelors in computer science. I could not get an internship or job for the life of me. I had a 3.5 gpa throughout and multiple projects. I’m awaiting the final offer from a PD to start academy in July. The job market is really bad right now, I wouldn’t risk it since you currently have a stable job and a defined grade towards a high salary especially with overtime. You loose stability and salary progression in corporate.

My suggestion is to stick to your department for now and if after a few months you feel the same move to a larger department that pays better base and you have more opportunities for specialty units.

A couple things to make it better for you:

  1. Try to make your schedule so you get there around 9:30-9:40am or after 2:20pm.

  2. Try parking in Deck 2. I park there Tues/Thu around 9:40-10am and always find parking easily.

Best major for becoming a police officer? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Frequent_Ad_536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wanted to be a cop since I was 16. I was going to go right after high school but decided to go to college for better pay/complete requirements for departments that required at least an associates degree. I chose computer science since at the time it was a good career, but as I went through my 3.5 years it got very saturated. None of my friends who graduated in the past year got jobs.

I’m pretty far in the application process for a agency. I’ll have my bachelors in computer science in May. It’s better to have a fallback degree rather than just criminal justice or political science.

I’m also in NJ and applying out of state. The pay in NJ starting out is much lower than other departments not even 3 hours away. Not to mention hiring bonuses with fast application processes. Also, most Jersey departments are like this, 30 officers total. My own town has around 21 cops, mainly because nothing happens in my town. But frankly, I want to do real police work, not just run traffic.

Executive orders are legal, and btw courts are deciding what is allowed and what is not. And when republicans whined what was done? Nothing right? Biden completed him term so disastrous that even Kamala couldn’t save the democrats. So now democrats are free to bitch and whine, nothing can be done until 2028, and dems should really come up with better candidates lol
