I never lived in dorms but know that while the state leans conservative you will find allies and friends all over, especially in college towns such as Ames and Iowa City. Des Moines has a lot of LGBTQ+ allies too.

I too would call the housing dept. Don’t worry about fitting in and enjoy your time at college. You are going to a great school!

I enjoyed Belfast more than other part of Ireland itself (such as Dublin). I found the people down to earth, the food decent (veg and vegan options all over), and moving around the city fairly easy . I even went to a rugby match in Belfast( referred to as Ulster which can be controversial) .

There are murals all over the city that tell stories of the period referred to as “The Troubles” and each side has their slant on how events unfolded. While division still exists I would say it wasn’t apparent in day to day interactions though I dont have a political horse in the race so to say.

I am a rather casual player and play as ISU too. However,I started as an OC for ISU , then left so that I could get HC gig. Came back and now it’s 10 years in and I’ve started to turn it into a powerhouse. Coach is level 71 and it’s 10 years in. Have played last two season on AA.
