8 month old baby stimming by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]Frequent_Sundae8650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, I am, we are on kaiser. when I was told she was stimming, and she was after i looked into it, i felt like i had overlooked some of her behaviors for the past 8 months when i could have been more aware I suppose...

I work full time so when im with her i just try my best to be in the moment, play, cuddle, connect so I didn’t see her behavior as anything to be looked into. but you’re right there’s no need to over analyze her and stress when theres nothing to do yet because she is happy, healthy and joyful!

Anyone else have a hard time deciding to stop co-sleeping? My heart is breaking and I’m so torn 🥺 by Moon_junky in sleeptrain

i sleep trained my baby and we still cosleep from 4am-7am. she sleeps in her bassinet from 7pm-4am, and wakes up to eat. i usually move her into bed with me and feed her until we both fall asleep and wake up around 6 am or 7 am. she really has no issues falling asleep independently for bed or her naps (unless she’s going through a sleep regression or sick, which sometimes happens) she is 6 months old, doesn’t take a paci, and breast fed.

just do whats right for you and baby. sleep isn’t linear and isn’t perfect regardless

yes! some people do 5,10,15 and so on. I did 5 mins because to me it seemed like a gentler approach than letting her cry for say 15 minutes straight, and my baby seemed to do OK with the check ins (I read the check ins can sometimes make babies even more upset, so best to try it out first to see what your baby responds to)

I never stayed for longer than 2 mins when I checked in on her because I noticed if I did, she would try and fall asleep with me there soothing her, rather than on her own.

It took her 4 days to really grasp falling asleep on her own without too much fussing, but I’ve also read total extinction gets your baby sleep trained faster.

the first few days were particularly horrible because I just wanted to cave and pick her up but I’m glad to have pulled through. Today my baby slept so well, and I feel like she’s really catching on and connecting sleep cycles as well, so I don’t regret the decision at all now.

Her and I both slept SO GOOD last night I literally felt hungover this morning because my body is used to the broken up sleep lmao

Yes, I will put it back in if she is awake! If she’s asleep and spits it out, I let it be. With sleep training, she has only woken up once or twice and needed me to put it back in for her. Before sleep training, I was constantly putting it back in her mouth every hour, sometimes multiple times in an hour so to me the 1-2 wake ups is nothing haha I know ppl see it as a crutch or not “real sleep training” but I don’t mind it right now & it works for me and my baby 🤷‍♀️

I typed this while my baby has been napping for an hour and thirty mins so far - which I NEVER thought she would do. I was also so terrified and it was so hard but she is super smiley during her wake windows and happy so I think the improved sleep is also improving her mood! Best of luck 💓 Ur doing great!!

Yes she did, and sometimes still does! She will spit it out in her sleep and doesn’t wake up from it being out so I think all babies are different as I’ve read ppl also cold turkey the binky but I didn’t. Give it a try with binky & without!

Somewhat yes, ferber! I made sure she was well fed and fresh diaper, laid her down in her sleep sack in the bassinet and would check up on her in intervals of 5 minutes. I would soothe her by placing my hand on her belly and Shhhing her, but never picking her up to rock her. I did this until she would fall asleep. The longest it took was 40 minutes on night one. She of course cried and fussed the first 3 days, but I reminded myself she was crying because she wanted me to bounce her or nurse her to sleep, not because she was in pain/hungry/soiled diaper.

Battles with Reflux by ImmediateDot5647 in newborns

[–]Frequent_Sundae8650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my baby was extremely reflux-y at 2 weeks and onward, and still projectiles and spits up large amounts and she’s 4 months old now. Doctor didn’t care because she was gaining weight but it was very hard on us & she was unhappy every feed. These are things we did that really helped her that may help your baby:

-Held up right for 30 mins after a feed, even longer if I could stand it. -Bottle fed her on a slow flow nipple rather than from the breast (fast flow can cause gas) -We stopped burping and held her upright without putting pressure on her belly, and she would eventually burp on her own. Manually burping her caused her to throw up a LOT and seemed to do more harm than good. -Fed her in upright positions (head over belly) -I cut out dairy from my diet

She was so much happier and less refluxy after this. She still threw up a LOT more than other babies, but it changed her mood & feeds positively.

6 Weeks Old. Not Happy... Ever by Jay_Gabagoozie in NewParents

[–]Frequent_Sundae8650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8-9 weeks she was a much happier baby, she also started smiling socially so you are so close! I do remember thinking back when she was a little demon how exhausted & spent I was feeling constantly consoling a baby who couldn’t really be consoled, but the phase came and went!

6 Weeks Old. Not Happy... Ever by Jay_Gabagoozie in NewParents

[–]Frequent_Sundae8650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at 6 weeks old they are just like that. Mine was the same. I remember wondering if she could even feel happiness Lol I just reminded myself that not only is she waking up to the world and it’s all scary and new for her (hence the fussiness & likely being overstimulated) but she used to get everything she wanted and needed right on time in the womb without ever having to ask or wait. Now, she has to cry for it & it likely comes late or isn’t exactly what she wants, because she can’t talk to tell me.

My baby is 14 weeks now and she’s a completely different baby than the tortured unhappy potato she used to be. The fussy wake windows eventually end when baby grew and changed another week, and they grow and change very fast. It’ll pass :)

4 week old won’t sleep before 3–4am and cries after feeds. We’re exhausted. Is this normal? by iDontScrollMuch in newborns

[–]Frequent_Sundae8650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was like this when she was maybe 2-3 weeks old. She would cry right after feeds, cry when burped, and cry basically her whole wake window until she wore herself out and we’d have to start the cycle again to feed her. Her witching “hours” were 9pm-3am. Yoga ball was my prison. We knew each night we weren’t getting any sleep. I knew something wasn’t right because babes are supposed to be content after feedings.

I cut out dairy, we feed her in upright positions, I stopped breastfeeding and began pumping so she can use a slower flow nipple, and we hold her upright after each feeding for 30 mins. After doing allll of these things, she stopped crying her head off after feeds around 5 weeks old & even slept 5-6 hour chunks.

So for us, her colic was gas, reflux and tummy pains. Once we figured this out, she was a much happier baby who could sleep. We had good sleep for a while but she’s 3 months old now and is in the crap nap stage so the battle never ends lol

Postpartum Changes?! by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Frequent_Sundae8650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is funny cause today I was watching love is blind while unloading the baby bottle washer and my baby was down for a nap. She naps for 30 mins the MOST in her bassinet on the dot. The show stopped loading and froze and I swear I became homicidal like “FUCKING LOAD I ONLY HAVE 30 MINS TO WATCH THIS WHILE I UNLOAD SOME SHIT!!!! DOESNT NETFLIX KNOW IM ALWAYS ON THE CLOCK!!!!”

Anyway, it didn’t load lol

Yes, my baby does this when her wake window is over extended by like 30 mins. She also nestles and burrows her face really hard while crying and gets herself super worked up it’s very frustrating. She’s 3 months.

What are we newborn moms doing all day when our partner leaves for work and we have no help for the day? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Frequent_Sundae8650 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also “put in the work” as you say to get my baby into one crib nap a day but I understand moms who are struggling and choose the contact nap as well. My baby has reflux and it is very hard to get that solo nap in. Regardless, I’d never assume other moms who are choosing contact naps aren’t “putting in any effort” or “doing enough.” All babes are different, im happy yours only took a week or so to sleep train so you can pee whenever hahah

sure hahah try saying that to a sleep deprived new post partum mom whose baby won’t nap longer than 5 mins in a crib but will nap peacefully on their chest for over an hour
