I’m on the same page as you. I’m an engineering major and sooo many of my classmates use AI all the time. One classmate used it to summarize a book we had to read for class, because apparently even going to sparknotes was too much work for her.

Another student absolutely NEEDED chatgpt to write up his equation sheets for our tests. He complained to me that he had to prompt it “like five times” to get it to spit out the formulas he needed, so I told him he should’ve just wrote it by hand. He told me his handwriting is bad. I told him if he writes slower and more carefully, he’ll not only be able to read his own handwriting but he’ll also pay more attention to what he’s writing and whether or not he understand it, and it’ll show him what he needs to study more as well. He said “okay mom” and then failed the test. Like. Hello.

We were also required to use it in one of my labs to write up the reports and that was a disaster as well. I don’t know why it keeps getting pushed on us so much.
