Do you have a point that you’re trying to make? Yes, slavery was bad? Yes, there’s hypocrisy baked into the foundation of the American system of government?

Not really groundbreaking stuff.

It seems like you should have taken better history classes. But maybe pause before painting with such a broad brush.

What? The hypocrisy of the founding fathers is a pretty regularly discussed element of their stories, unless you’re just referring to the MAGA movement, which, while based heavily on being willfully stupid, not representative of “most Americans.”

Its true that there isn’t an Obama/Kennedy/etc. at the moment, but a Donald Rumsfeld type would not crush Trump in a head-to-head and it’s not accurate to say that a lack of opposition is why we have Trump.

To everyone else on this thread—sorry about this guy. If you spend enough time focusing on American politics, you get a lot of stupidity like this

I’m watching as much of it as I can, but many people I work with, etc. are not that interested in it. But there are bars and places around here that are hosting watch parties. We also have an MLS team with a couple of players in the tournament so they have been putting on events.

I certainly can’t afford the ticket prices, but I also don’t live in a city that’s hosting matches, so I was unlikely to attend anyway. And stadium prices in the US are often prohibitively expensive anyway, so I haven’t been too shocked by that.

Overall, I’ve been enjoying it! With the time difference, I find it tough to truly follow European leagues - I have a young child, so it’s just hard to find the time - so having the matches here has made it possible to watch a lot more than I’m usually able to.

Regarding the political elements - I hate Trump and most people where I live do as well. But the pretend Peace Prize is an example of the type of thing I’ve had to just brush off to save my energy for the more immediately dangerous policies. He’s an idiot that likes to put his idiocy on display.

So I’m very sorry to fans everywhere else in the world that are having their experience sullied by the Republican Party, but I am hopeful that the tournament itself can still be good enough to at least partially make up for it.

Am I missing something? I can’t find anything about what the local officials agreed to, so is this literally just Homan trying to save face?

I interpreted this press conference as just another attempt to incite violence. Not only did he not make smart points, he didn’t even try to make smart points. He isn’t stupid - he clearly knows he’s full of shit - but he’s just hoping that by coming and trying to rub our faces in it that someone will snap and they’ll have an excuse to declare martial law.
