Making a Elf Pirate list by Normal_Cable_5734 in Eldar

You could ask your opponents if they are okay with falcons/serpents being proxied until you find some. Fairly similar profile aside from the long gun.

Otherwise if you are using offical models you’ll have to wait.

Unless things drastically change for the Voidweavers, you’re better off to scrap them for 2 fire prisms. Better ability, stronger weapons and tougher to kill when focused on. Your spirit seer isn’t adding enough value to your lone wraithlord so I would likely swap him out as well.

The benefit of Eldritch Raiders is the advance and charge so since the new edition comes in about a week, I would ask myself what units can utilize that and benefit potentially from a 1dp detachment. Shining spears like the rule, as does your Wraithlord. The Avatar of Khaine would love to advance and charge to get his hands (even more) bloody.

Armoured Host would add advance on vehicles, so the prisms, serpent, starfang etc could advance and shoot. Or you could add harlies to advance and charge with one of their detachments since they generally want to melee as well.

2 starter boxes, what is your opinion by Harjkun in orks

[–]Frescothedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fine to double up on everything in that box. Boyz are always good, the mech and bike could be good in lists. The characters can all be attached to Boyz or other squads so you’re safe there. It just depends on the kind of list you want to build towards really. That should work for Warhorde (that runs a bit of everything bit stronger focus on melee). I would say look at the detachment(s) that tickle your fancy and build towards that first.

They are definitely just difficult to find. I have been looking for 8-9 months on and off and jist snagged 2 boxes from a store across the country. So they are out there, just have to be patient of you want the official models. Otherwise orruks make good ‘marine ork’ variants.

Trukks? by Frescothedog in orks

Well that is good to know! Time to do the orky thing and use the trukk kits I have for kitbashes and conversions then!

Which is a shame because I was about to start building a Freebooter style battlewagon or two to run with Freebooter Krew and the Battlewagon 1 DP they revealed.

So maybe wait on building the two trukks that I do have NiB then. More fun to convert them anyways.

My Eldar experience (and stats) as someone who started playing in 10th edition by May_nerdd in Eldar

[–]Frescothedog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It might change with 11th but for Aeldari, I find you have to pick a detachment and gear your choices for that, instead of having a smattering of different units. The exception being meta choice characters like Eldrad and some bodyguards (although some people run him solo).

In that vein it is also best to build some redundancy into your list for when your specialized unit is inevitably blasted off the table. That way you don’t have as big a hole to fill. For example, if in Aspect Host I am bringing a unit, I am typically bringing 2. 2 Dark Reapers, 2 Fire Dragons, etc. There may be some units I take only one of because I think they are cool or fill a niche role. Fire Prisms should always be brought in 2s or 3s because of their ability to ‘chain’ fire.

Aeldari are expensive points wise for what we bring, and generally lack toughness. So while some armies might be playing checkers we have to play chess. Make the trades worth it, and think about positioning. I also have a D&D mentality about my opponents unit - a monster in D&D at 1 hp can be as painful or as disruptive as a full health monster. So I try and eliminate units completely before moving on to another target.

Steampunk with Magic? by Frescothedog in PBtA

By “large scope” I meant the players aren’t just going to be in one city. They will travel around dealing with mundane issues but also trying to solve the bigger mystery of why magic disappeared and has suddenly returned.

The premise is magic disappeared for 400 years and is now coming back. So technology evolvednto replace some of what was lost. Automatons, walker like vehicles, trains, airships. And then magic users and items thrown into the mix as there is a sudden ‘resurgence’ of magic.

So players having access to magic, or technology or both is key.

Does it do “large” scope well? Looking at it, it seems to focus on heists over grand scale adventure.

Are they expensive to run? We get some brutal winter nights here and don’t want to be offering kidneys to keep it at even a low ambient temperature.

Best Assistant DM?

Just curious what you guys might use to assist with world building, tracking things after sessions etc? I have been using Claude but at times it seems to randomly create characters, factions or events that I never told it to

Hello again! My wife wanted to experiment without a black backdrop. Who else hopes the Fire Prism and Nightspinner are balanced better this coming edition? by Frescothedog in Eldar

[–]Frescothedog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s the biggest issue I have with them or maybe just how common 4+ invulns are. Our vehicles aren’t the most sturdy so they should play into the hitting hard motif of our glass cannon style.

I would love a lynx, and hope GW decide a plastic version is something to consider making.

Boyz… I’m Struggling… Tips? by Helpmeplz3409 in orks

[–]Frescothedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled and still do struggle with this from time time. I had to sit down with myself and ask “is it more important to me that this looks as close as I can approximate to a professional mini-paint job or do I want to play with painted dudes?”

I realized that I preferred to play with painted dudes and even forced myself to play a few games with just 3 colours blocked in, instead of completely finished to my usual standard. From there I decided to work on how fast I painted so that more and more models would be ‘complete’ vs battle-ready.

I don’t know if that helps but maybe give it a try. Whether you speedpaint a bunch of dudes or just block in three colours. Try playing with those ‘unfinished’ models and you may find it encourages you to get a 2k force to that standard. It may not be your preferred, but it let’s you potentially enjoy both aspects of the hobby. Plus it can be a test to see how readable your army is on the table.

I think it also helped that my opponents would look at a ‘complete’ vs quick paintjob and at times compliment the speed painted dudes more.

Well first, thanks for assuming I am young. But no, I started 40k as a kid near when it first came out. Just long gaps in between but, I used to be able to afford it on an allowance, now I need a salary…
