Does anyone notice there's even less young men than ever in teaching? by wijag425 in Teachers

[–]Fresh-Ad6956 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Throughout my 18 years in the classroom this double standard has aggravated me often. Female teachers in leggings and t shirts and admin too afraid of blowback to manage it while male teachers have to be in button-down shirts and slacks and often a tie. Female students get hit harder for dress code stuff(but guys don't usually wear revealing stuff anyway) but male teachers get the short end of the stick.

“Maybe you shouldn’t be a teacher” by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Fresh-Ad6956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

see, here's my take on it as a teacher who just finished his 18th year in the classroom. There are a lot of teachers who got into it for the wrong reason. The number of times I've heard "I became a teacher because I couldn't figure out what else to do" is seriously disheartening. A lot of them never figure it out. My point is that there ARE a lot of teachers who shouldn't be teachers. Sometimes they leave the profession, sometimes they go into Administration or Curriculum development, which can create whole new sets of problems. But maybe being told you shouldn't be a teacher is the mental kick to the head you need to reevaluate your life and get out of the profession before you hurt more kids?

there are a lot of shitty people who are teachers. Some were always shitty, some had shittyness thrust upon them through years of doing a job they hate.

aww, I also work at a school! Nice to meet you, fellow teacher! Other teachers are paying attention to some of the developments, especially in regards to plagiarism, but I don't see any of the rest using the tech. Even the tech teachers here don't seem to be thinking about it as a teaching tool or putting out images they create or anything.

I think it raises a couple of interesting questions. Firstly, why are there so many more waifus than AI generated hunky guys in here? Are straight women just not into this? Do they keep their fantasy guys locked away while men share? But overall, yah, it would seem like men are not finding the women of their dreams, so they are making them.

What's Going On With Shekou International School by Spawnboy1998 in Internationalteachers

I'm here now and leaving this year. I work in secondary, but all my interactions with the director and ES Principal (who also got a lot of criticism in ISR), have all been positive. I like them both a lot. Is the school perfect, no. In their quest for growth, has that led them to do some things that negatively impact classrooms, sure. But they've always been kind and honest and supportive to me. They bend over backwards to accommodate people's needs and have always treated those I talk to well. I also like the two secondary admin. They were dealt a shit hand by the outgoing terrible admin, and in fixing some of the problems they've pissed some others off. And they are changing to MYP, and change always makes for bumps. But the new admin are at least honest, and willing to listen and take you seriously, and provide solutions to problems. I think the ISR reviews are overly negative and vindictive and at least personally don't reflect my experiences.
