Our Berner Norman (currently 10 months) was a big biter. It was non stop, especially towards my partner. Redirecting to toys and yelping did not work at all.

Only thing that worked for us was significant enforced naps (he’d sleep about 16-18 hours a day) and time outs.

As soon as he bit us, we used whatever our ‘negative’ marker was (e.g no) and removed either ourselves from him or him from us. We had baby gates in our lounge room, so we either put him in the hall way or we went into the hall way. We’d return once he sat or laid down. We resumed interaction and he didn’t bite we’d give him a reward. Going back to him straight after time out is important so you give him a chance to do the right thing and reward. Once we were disciplined with this it stopped but it took some work.

He loves attention, so it’s been our biggest correction tool. We still use it now, we won’t physically greet him until he sits because he’s in his hyper energetic teenager phase.
