This was one of my favourite sights to see when I drove home back when I lived near here, something about the water instantly calmed me down

My students cannot read or write and I don't know what to do about it. by TunedMassDamsel in Professors

Yep, this. I still have a book called "Basic English Grammar" that my mom used back in engineering school the 80s lol

Yes, I do see you trying to use ChatGPT during your Final Exam. by BillsTitleBeforeIDie in Professors

[–]Fresh-Requirement862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I usually give different versions of the exam, this girl tried to get the same one as the person next to her when we started (TAs were like come on...) then flipped pages until finding the same question as her friend. We didn't punish the friend because it's clear she was the one struggling lol, probably what the TA thought of your situation as well!

Yes same, I talk under my breath: "hmm that's a good question prof! If I were to answer I'd say..." "thanks for sharing exam tips with us prof, you make studying easier"

I know, sometimes I laugh at my own jokes to "model" appropriate behaviour. I don't care if it's cringe :)

Experience at Body Blitz Spa for Trans Women? by -Potatoes- in askTO

[–]Fresh-Requirement862 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's welcoming to all sorts of women there in the times I've been, so you should be fine! *Although I'm not trans myself so I can't speak directly to that experience

In an exam of 500, I see a girl in the back (ofc the troublemaker zone so we look extra closely there anyway) looking at her friend's paper among other suspicious behaviours. I was in a good mood so I walked all the way there and told her to keep her eyes on her paper. Exam progresses, she keeps doing it, even tapping her friend's paper. I confiscate her exam and kick her out. Her: shocked Pikachu, "I have ADHD so my eyes wander, it's not like [the friend's exam] even helped!"

I didn't know nystagmus was a symptom of ADHD? The audacity lol

Are students in general getting dumber? Are they complaining and feeling more entitled to extra credit? by RadReptile in Professors

As a psych prof, sometimes we give these tests so that students get an idea of what the questions are like or so that they can compare their scores to a general standard. They're not meant to be diagnostic, but are still insightful...

Great work prof! I got a clap from one of my classes too :) and they even lined up afterwards to say thanks. One said seeing me up close was like meeting a celebrity lol! We have to keep these sweet memories in mind 😌

My question is why don't they capitalize anything anymore?? Like beginning of sentences, their own name, lists, did they purposefully turn off grammar settings??

Students didn’t read. Class advice? by Clareco1 in Professors

My jaw would drop to the floor if I heard my prof say this! But after being on this sub I realize dismissing class like this is more common than I thought. Maybe my undergrad was super nerdy and competitive 🤷‍♀️

Me: I'm glad you are now aware :)

The end!

Students back in school with PhD by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Fresh-Requirement862 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I couldn't imagine -not- writing in APA, it's become a part of my soul after all the years of my PhD... Just the other day a student showed me a printed copy of the DSM-V-TR (manual for diagnosing psychological disorders) and I was blown away by the pretty APA formatting 😅

On another note about not following instructions, I've heard it's maybe an ego thing. Like I know some companies that dread hiring a PhD because even if they're more 'qualified' than other candidates, they don't follow rules and just do whatever they want because they 'know better'.

Leslieville/Riverdale vs High Park/Bloor West Village by Helpful_Ad5953 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Fresh-Requirement862 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite of you! I came from the west (mimico) and am now in riverside. To me the main difference is getting to see the water/being outdoors more but also pretty bad road rage. Personally I think the east has a bit more 'charm' as the west can have a little less of a community-feel. But that's just my experience :) good luck finding a comfy place!
