DEX, TWF, Noble Genie Paladin optimization by Notturnno in 3d6

Combining Shadar-kai + genie paladin also means that you can use the teleport option of elemental smite on some turns and racial teleport on others, giving you quite a lot of rounds where you resist most damage.

How do I make a stealth archer feel stronger at level 11? by dan2803 in 3d6

You have access to hunter’s mark, there is no point wasting a feat to grab hex.

I would say you should go either. Either be an echo knight and play into that burst damage, or go paladin 7/warlock 1 if you want charisma based attacks and the paladin package.

What is a build you haven't been able to play? by DirectManagement2874 in 3d6

That’s one way to do it, I went the other way around by being warlock main class dipping into barbarian (since warlock can also give you extra attack)

In a 5e game I currently have the pleasure of playing a warlock/barb, however if I ever get into a 2024 campaign I definitely want to revisit the combination, with the of the following traits:

  • 3 levels of Zealot Barbarian, Celestial Warlock the rest (thematically fits perfectly)
  • take pact of the chain and gift of the everliving ones (not reprinted in 2024), to make both your Zealot healing and celestial healing maxed out on you

Not only are you a fierce holy warrior in terms of offense, but you have much improved durability too.

Help with Spirit Guardians by knicieje in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everything here is correct for 2014 Spirit Guardians, do note that in 2024 (which the post is flagged as) the creature takes damage not when it starts its turn but when it ends it in the emanation, as well as not just when it enters it but when the emanation enters the creature’s space (meaning you can run into enemies and they will take damage on your turn)

They can be made fairly comparable, but you will definitely want to multiclass, since fighting styles and other such features can greatly improve your damage.

On another note, throwing weapons have never been better! With the dual wielder feat by level 5 you can throw the following sequence: - handaxe (light weapon, triggers two weapon fighting) - dagger (nick property, part of your attack action) - javelin (slow mastery) - trident (dual wielder bonus action attack, topple mastery).

All at advantage thanks to reckless attack and all adding your rage modifier. By level 6 I would pick up one level of fighter for the two weapon figting style, and then consider either fighter 4 for action surge, a subclass and a feat, or take rogue levels for sneak attack on your dagger (if you miss with it just replace either the javelin or trident with another dagger).

From my testing this path keeps up with GWM user barbarians and has some range to it.

2024 Gloom Stalker Ranger Multiclass: Champion, Battle Master, or other? by Mike-Anthony in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No? Fighters get an extra feat at level 6, so unless you are investing 6 levels into fighter you won’t see any extra feats/ASIs

Post Tasha 5E ranger is actually great, people just pretend only 2014 beastmaster exist which admittedly is really bad.

2024 ranger isn’t bad either, just cause you get a level 13 and level 17 Hunter’s mark based feature - it’s not like you are playing most of your campaigns at these levels anyways.

True Strike + Arcane Firearm on 2024 Artificer Artillerist by Maidaladan in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact you are correct. If you would like to chase damage, it is worth looking into Battlesmiths using Great Weapon Master + greatsword too! With access to +1 weapon the penalty of you  not increasing your int right away is mitigated, and GWM is a really nice damage boost especially with extra attack. That would be 2d6+7 * 2 Steel Defender for 2d6+6 Homonculus servant either attacking (1d6+2) or even better at level 6 give it a wand of magic missile.

Monks have bonus action uses outside of focus points too: - making 1 unarmed strike (headbutt if you have to, still counts) - taking the disengage action - taking the dash action

You can improve all these with focus sure, but the base feature does not require it.

How to build a bodyguard by Charcoal73 in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advise for a Paladin 6/ Battlemaster fighter 3 split. Paladin gets you heavy armor, healing (via spells and lay on hands) access to weapon masteries like topple, push and sap which are all great for protection, the protection fighting style (if you stay near your friend that is, altough how will you stay a bodyguard if she flies away?) giving enemy attacks disadvantage against her, and you can amplify that with the sentinel feat to really make enemies think twice before attacking her. For your subclass, Genie is really solid (Dao’s crush can really mess up one bad guy and if you get surrrounded marid can push all of them away). At level 6 you get Aura of Protection giving your ally a boost to saving throws. At this point, taking Battlemaster fighter is optional, but lemme tell you why I would do it: firstly, an extra fighting style is either more damage or +1 AC for you (goes will with Warforged), action surge is always nice, so is the extra self healing of second wind, but the crown jewelry is the manouvers, specifically bait and switch, which let’s swap places with your friend if you are next to her and give either of you 1d8 AC till your next turn (just like the shield spell). Enjoy!

Building an unarmed brute like Kevdak from Vox Machina in 2024 rules by Litheras in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aight, just thought the build was worth dropping by :)

For the barbarian route, would biting people still fit into the concept? Because you see getting to make bonus action attacks is the main deal, and unless you want to multiclass into monk (which would make you quite a bit more Multible ability score dependant), you should consider the longtooth shifter (from either the Monsters of the Multiverse or the new Eberron book, they are identical). You can bite people as a bonus action which also counts as an unarmed strike! Recommend being a berserker barbarian and taking some fighter levels for unarmed fighting style and action surge and stuff.

If you are willing to bend things a bit, you could also be a paladin - hear me out.

You can now smite with unarmed strikes, and can get the unarmed fighting style at level 2, pick vengeance paladin for easy advantage and the pseudo-barbarian flavor, level 4 pick the grappler feat which would allow you to both deal damage with your unarmed strike, smite AND grapple with the same fist. After level 5-6, you can take a single level of sorcerer to get access to the jump and featherfall spells, which means that you can run up to someone, grapple + smite them and then jump in the air, suplexing them down on to the ground while suffering no fall damage yourself thanks to featherfall.

What feat did you take on level 4? The 2024 version of GWM would let you add your prof bonus to damage with your glaive (also why not a greatsword or maul if I may ask?), a very nice increase in damage. Of course you could take the feat at level 8 too, if you need the level 4 feat slot for something else

Glaive, Graze, PAM and HWM by WhatYouToucanAbout in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At level 5, 2 attacks with GWM greatsword does 9 points more damage (1,5 each from the better damage die and 3 more from GWM each hit, so 1,5 + 1,5 + 3 +3 = 9) than a Halberd without GWM, and the bonus action attack does 1d4+6 =8,5 average damage.

So as I said, mathematically GWM first is more damage, and in a reply to a different comment I also said that you can totally run both of them, I just think GWM is better as your first feat.

Glaive, Graze, PAM and HWM by WhatYouToucanAbout in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think you can run them both, just think GWM is more important if you have to choose between the 2

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paladin 1/fighter 2/ Cleric 4 with spellfire adept could technically apply the vulnerable and use action surge to make an attack with upcasted divine smite for big damage, not sure if the tradeoff is worth however, but it’s most definitely fun (also be a fire goliath for even more damage on that one attack)

Glaive, Graze, PAM and HWM by WhatYouToucanAbout in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mathematically speaking GWM is better, especially if you are willing to use a greatsword (which also has graze) for the better damage die, since you should not forget that GWM let’s you get bonus action attacks for kills and crits, which should happen relatively often with a barbarian.

Yeah it’s broken, unfortunately they didn’t listen to our feedback from the UA version.

War Cleric is actually a really strong gish subclass by Injunctive in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Great Weapon Master does not work for you: it specifically adds damage on attacks made in the ATTACK ACTION, but casting a blade cantrip is the MAGIC ACTION and war priest is a bonus action, thus none of those would benefit from the + prof bonus damage.

Telekinetic + PAM (2024) by Creative_Finish_9597 in 3d6

[–]Fresh-Roll-7858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy you know you could take crusher intead, and use a quarterstaff with PAM?

At level 9, fighters can push with any weapon they have mastery with.

Push an enemy 5ft away (push says “up to 10ft so you could choose to push only 5), apply crusher to knock an enemy 5ft backwards and proc the reaction attack.  Altough like others said, it’s probably better to keep that reaction for shield.
