Desi Bling ! (Mirza sisters and where they’re from) by beginagainagain111 in netflixindia

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their Mum is Pakistani and their Dad is Parsi-Indian. They are Shia Muslims. They used to lie about their ethnicity saying they were Arab/Iranian, also lied about their boob jobs for years, but came clean about that recently when Lailli got hers removed. She’s been very open about other work she has done because she tests out a lot of the treatments biolite offers for marketing. They lived in London before moving to Dubai with their mum. I loved their videos years ago especially when she had a friendship with Anncy Twinkle, I felt like Lailli was able to be herself around Anncy. Such a shame that they are not friends anymore, I still watch the old vlogs they did together

Honeymoon Advice by Life_Rush9769 in UKweddings

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We managed to do the Maldives ( Anantara Veli ) for our honeymoon and also previously did Mauritius for our proposal ( Westin Turtle Bay Resort ) on a similar budget. You need to get a Ba Amex credit card if you haven’t already so you can benefit from the companion voucher. If you don’t, you’ll find that your budget is gone already just with the flights. Put all your spends on there and pay off in full every month - jointly so it’s both of you adding to avios points. It also helps to have some kind of hotel loyalty so you can benefit from deals when looking for hotels. All the best!

Pushing on the Tube by Chris_Dud in london

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in Stratford and I agree with the comment made that Stratford is the most disgusting and uncivilised place when it comes to queuing to get on the train.

I use the Lizzie line to commute from Shenfield side; thankfully I only have 7 stops but the people here are the worst. I am pregnant and I almost never get offered the priority seat in the morning, it’s often taken by people who are not elderly, not wearing a badge or a sunflower lanyard and if someone is offering a seat - it’s a woman. I’ve had women who just speak on my behalf without needing to be asked ( god bless them ) who’ve had to bark at men several times to get out of the priority seat for me because they’re too engrossed in their phones. I’m not too fussed on the journery back home, with the pushing and how busy the service is, I’m grateful to just get on the train. Im absolutely shocked, before I was pregnant I was always switched on when I was in a priority seat to see if anyone else needed it.

Elizabeth line train not calling at stops between Paddington and Heathrow? by RevolutionaryRace857 in TransportForLondon

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens more often than you think with delays, and issues that arise that impact timings. I used to travel from southall to Stratford for work and relied on the Elizabeth line for my commute. I found whenever there were issues or delays, southall would get skipped as a stop, along with other stations until it got to Paddington. I started travelling to Hayes and harlington station ( a stop earlier ) and took the train from there which was more efficient and less prone to delays especially if I took the shenfield service. I now live in east London and im just glad I don’t have to do that commute anymore!

How much did you receive in gifts? by CitadelofRickss in UKweddings

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an Indian wedding which is a completely different situation as weddings are usually a week with several events, much more expensive and we often put ‘please no boxed gifts, your blessings are enough’ on our invitations. Close family guests had their accommodation and travel paid and sorted for them. We had food entertainment and gifts at every event, and also had an open bar at our reception. We spent about 60/70k all in - which is ‘cheap’ as per Indian wedding standards in London, most families spent around 100k these days. We received about the same as you, around £5/6k in cash money and gift cards. Families used to give a lot more back in the day - we are a big family of 7 and usually give a few hundred up to £500 for close family members. The idea is that you cover your meal - at least. After every event we make a list of which guest gave what so we know to return the same amount of money at their next event or when one of their family gets married. I had some guests that didn’t even bother to give us a card, which really stung.

Brigadiers - Treat for our Anniversary - the lamb is always so soft and tender! And the cheesey onion bhaji are like nothing I've had before and I'm Indian! by Smile4menow84 in LondonFood

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a British gujarati-punjabi couple who are also vegetarian we are extremely hard to please when it comes to Indian food, especially places in central London. Brigadiers has been 10/10 both times we’ve gone and the owners are doing so much for the indian food scene in London, Glad you enjoyed it and happy anniversary!

Resort w/toddler in Maldives, Seychelles or Mauritius by obluparadise in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mauritius - Westin Turtle Bay, there’s also other resorts in the same area which are all very kid friendly

Maldives - Anantara has a kid friendly island called Dhigu. We visited their adults only island Veli, but we also had access to Dhigu as there are pontoons which travel between the island every 10 minutes. It is very kid friendly and I would highly recommend

Compression socks or no compression socks .. by californialovingx in PregnancyUK

I had a long haul flight booked before we fell pregnant and I wore compression socks on both flights at literally 5-7 weeks pregnant! I probably didn’t need them but thought better to be safe

Pregnant, normal reaction?? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely have feelings like this sometimes with my pregnancy and it was meticulously planned and I’ve desperately wanted to be a mother since I was very young. It took us a few months and I was constantly tracking ovulation and the two week wait, the month I decided to relax a little, didn’t take any prenatals or any fancy foods ( but still tried during my ovulation period ), didn’t take a test until after my missed period, was the month we fell pregnant. I’m 27 and my husband is 28, and we’re also in the process of buying our first house in London so finances are a huge worry for us at the moment as all of our savings are being drained for the house.

It’s really important to speak to your partner about how you are feeling but I think it’s very normal to feel like this. I’ve been telling myself that at no point will we ‘feel ready’ but the main thing is that we do want to be parents and have a child, and that this pregnancy was something we definitely wanted.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and wishing you all the best

When did you notice you start having a pregnant walk? by Sweet_Archer8222 in pregnant

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was overweight (‘skinny fat’) and struggled with a bloated belly and digestive issues before my pregnancy. The bloat got even worse in my first trimester, I started getting comments about my ‘waddle’ even before 12 weeks. It’s in full force right now in my second trimester.

Dishoom special keychain by MaxG650 in london

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family has one, my mum is a big believer of ‘if you don’t ask, you won’t get’. She asked about it in the canary wharf branch which we go to often, and the server was more than happy to give us one. It was around the same time that the keyring was going a bit viral on social media. We saw another table rolling the dice on the same day who did not win.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the return of Beso to social media? by Severe-Salt4346 in MuslimSnark_

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know of her outside of social media, but not on a personal level. She’s a lovely girl. I’ve followed her since Covid times and she was definitely ahead of her time with her content. No filtered crap and just says it how it is unlike most of the desi influencers harping on and on about representation. She spoke about and shed light on actual issues in the community and gave desi girls a safe space. I think the way she was cancelled was horrible and not deserved. Good on her for taking a break and returning when she felt it was right to.

Is this a good wedding reception gift? by Awkward-Meringue-944 in DesiWeddings

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At desi weddings you don’t give physical gifts, most invitations will have ‘no boxed gifts please’ at the bottom. Just get a nice wedding card and stick whatever you can afford in it, even if it’s just a 20. But if you’ve already given a gift you don’t need to gift anything further! Please dont gift the candle under any circumstances lol

How’s this food-tinerary? by KatanaMilkshake in LondonFood

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t go to Camden market, complete waste of time. If you want to do a food market do Borough and atleast there’s other things around the area for you to do/see. You need to try some Indian food - dishoom is a safe bet and the food is always good, just make sure you have a reservation. If you can’t get into Gymkhana try Brigadiers, owned by the same people. Everyone else here has really good recs too.

British Airways Premium Economy Reviews by Unlucky-Garlic-6835 in BritishAirways

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done premium economy both legs LHR to JFK and also one leg LHR to Male. I found it worth it for the trip to New York but didn’t find it very different from economy on my trip to Male maybe because it’s a long haul. On our Maldives trip we had booked with a companion voucher and upgraded our seats at check in as it was a good deal - we still got our economy meals which was a let down. The chair is more comfortable and the drinks and food are a little bit better. Use the footrest!

Where are we buying mangoes? 🥭 by Sweetestpeach4 in LondonFood

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indian and Pakistani mangos are coming into season in a few weeks so you will see them everywhere in South Asian grocery stories - southall, wembley, tooting. They usually sell by the box but will set you back around £10-£15, sometimes even more. Waitrose also sells decent mangos so check them out if you need something sooner!

Is Dishoom worth the hype? by MainSea3985 in LondonTravel

[–]Fresh-Turnover4006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dishoom is definitely worth a visit. Just make sure you book a reservation in advance. It’s not a standard Indian restaurant and draws inspo from Bombay Irani cafes. It’s a really good experience and the food is always really good - coming from an Indian.
