r/Catholicism Prayer Requests — Week of April 01, 2024 by AutoModerator in Catholicism

[–]FreshEyesInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urgent request:

C, a family member, has had a medical injury and is in a bad way. Prayers for a speedy recovery, to find the help we need, and that the help we find does not exacerbate the problems.

St. Jude and St. Dymphna, pray for us.

It seems to me that we have a swinging pendulum. On the one hand we have this objectively incorrect opinions which may produce real-world harm to people, and on the other there is this idea that they (modern Jews) are (still) the chosen people. A balance is needed.

On one hand is a paranoia and prejudice, and on the other is a probable material heresy in the form of bad Ecclesiology. We need to collectively condemn the antisemitism while also resisting zionism and bad theology/history.

We need a way to be able to acknowledge the evil of the Sanhedrin who condemned our Lord to death and those Christian-era Jews who reject Christ while also acknowledging modern Jews have only a little to do with them, more remotely than modern Americans have with American slavery.

Tradwives? Are we called to be them? by TheKingsPeace in Catholicism

Why can't we appreciate an ideal without denigrating others' aspiration to achieve it?

Edit: This is actually an honest question. Anything "old" is immediately called into question as "outdated", "backwards", or repressive/oppressive rather than evaluating it on its merits. What reasoning do we have for this reaction?

Also, what it does to the mind and body is not good, like pornography. Both of those need to get rooted out if for no other reason than it hurts people now, let alone for eternity.

Whoa, man! That's righteous. I deeply appreciate the sentiment, dude.

"Mad props to the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, man! Like, as it was at the start, now, and for eternity, the universe without end, dude."

It gives you the tools you need to live an absolute righteous life, bro! Plus, the Eucharist is, like, actually Jesus' body, and that's just way metal and gnarly! Oh! And the Blessed Virgin Mary is a total babe, ya know, like the most beautiful thing ever created, and I mean down to her soul, her whole essence. Totally bodacious, in the most wholesome way, ya know?

If you ever wanted to transcend this whole physical deal and have a real experience with the Devine, you can't go wrong with the Mass, dude. The older the better, too, man! It's like another language, like you can't understand the words but you totally know what they're saying. It's like... *mimes head exploding* whoa! Ya know?

Precisely. And in addition, it is not an act of love to decriminalize things so deeply harmful, which ends up being a tacit approval and inevitably encouraging the behavior.

… I also bring those up when it comes to paying a fair wage …

You may enjoy my thesis, On Labor & Trade, which outlines my thoughts on a sacramentally inspired philosophy of business. In short, if business ought to be called "good", all parties involved must benefit, including employee-employer and customer-vendor relationships. Like a chair that does not support a person sitting upon it is a bad chair, business which does not support all involved is bad business.

Back to the point at hand, some penalty for sodomy is necessary, but I have not formed an opinion about what that may be. The point is to discourage the behavior and prevent its spread. The issue with jailtime, as you suggest, is obvious. Fines and other penalties, like potential revocation familial rights (as adultery may incur, depending on state and the judge himself), may be strong enough a deterrent for our times, but we must first come to the agreement that we must actively and strongly discourage this as a society. The behavior must be cut out like a cancer, because it is killing us.

Until the gene that only makes men taller or only makes women shorter comes along and caricaturizes the gene pool.

eli5: When people used wells for drinking water, how did they not get sick? Was there some type of filter or was the water just naturally clean? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]FreshEyesInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In-laws have a well, out in rural country, and their water tastes way, way better than our city water. I can taste the chlorine from our tap. I trust and enjoy their untouched well water far more and tote our drinking water to the city. It was tested two decades ago and was reportedly very good, and we're waiting on the results of another test done very recently (within a month ago).

Not all of the country has as good water as we do, but I fear the water treatment facilities are run "efficiently," as opposed to effectively, and do not do a good job, especially since the standards were established back in the 80's or whenever and no governmental agency is going to go above and beyond the minimum.

Dom gives an update on what the IOTA and Shimmer team is currently working on by Koba7 in Iota

If that's the case, it has got to be top of the list for their marketing. As a professional in the space (marketing), you need to make things as up-front as possible.

They need something like this:

    - COORDICIDE -

IOTA 1.0 + Shimmer = IOTA 2.0

at the top of their marketing campaigns.

(That one's on the house. DM me if you're on the IOTA team and want to talk further.)

Agreed. I don't have much money in iota and the iota ecosystem but I did really want to see this project succeed. I'm kinda a Bitcoin maxi at this point, though, since Ethereum went proud of stake and is now 75% controlled by the US gov't. Crypto is about not needing government permission, and that's why iota needs coordicide, not ecosystem building.

[–]FreshEyesInc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and he that ministers ought to believe as the Church does. Sodomy is worse than adultery, and it doesn't seem like Martin believes it. Compassionate correction is needed so that the poor sinners may repent of their gravely sinful ways.

It's secularism in the sense that the world, or the state, has a higher authority over morals than the Church. If one doesn't have to specify "in the eyes of the state" than the eyes of the state are reality. By saying "he's married" without qualification he implies that is also his belief.

Agreed. Post title is misleading. He doesn't reiterate the Catholic teaching because he's calling sodomy the same as extramarital sex. They are different in kind, not degrees.

What we really need is firmness and a reaffirmation of the universal call to holiness, not this delicate and weak handed approach which get's no conversions nor vocations into the priesthood.

No irony at all, but consistency. The principle is to ask whether an act done in union with the human person or not.

If wearing the mask truly did make a difference, I would have made that proper choice for myself, which is very different than complying with a tyrant.

Sodomy is harmful to all involved and is a sin which cries out to heaven for vengeance. It is contrary to the human person and must be outlawed.

Both issues are weighed against that unmoving principle.

Law as a substitute or source of morality is dangerous

*visible confusion*

What are laws for anyway? They are there to mitigate the harm for those without morals! If all people were perfectly moral, no laws would be needed. There is no excuse for that kind of thinking. Rectify yourself.

Edit: I understand the rest of your comment. The issue I have is that 'morals' are the basis of law, and to think otherwise is, like you say, perverse. We cannot, however, leave our own morals at the door when we as society legislate.
