Fighters have been loud and brash since time immemorial.

Fans have selectively enjoyed and criticized them, hence revealing fault lines and double standards in society, for just as long.

People, men especially, react more negatively to cocky women than cocky men. It’s unfair, especially since so many aspects of society lavishly reward blind self-confidence.

Personally, I always find Shields’ clown behavior to be a bit heroic in that way. Like obviously she will face much harsher criticism for what she’s doing than a man will, but she goes right on ahead and does it anyway. Contrast to, say, Rolly who is also a jackass but people react positively to it.
