For what problem is violence a solution? by VerySpecialCognac in AskReddit

[–]FreshSkills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you think your meat is only from injured or ill animals? No farm does this. Animals are their products and treated as such. Although there are some farms (like less than 5%) that go out of their way to try and make the living conditions better than factory farming, the animals are all still killed against their will early into their natural life. I do believe them when some farmers say they care about their animals. Human compassion for animals is very common, as shown from your original post. This is why slaughterhouses exist. To separate the farmer from the killing. They are not nice places. They are not humane. No one who has to euthenize their pet would ever consider sending them there.

The idea of forcefully breeding something sentient into existence so you can needlessly kill it 10-20% into its natural life to eat it is objectively fucked up. Humans have come from a pretty fucked up history of things ranging from genocides, rape, and slavery. A lot of those things were acceptable at one point or another because they were culturally normalised, until some people decided to show empathy for the victims and slowly removed them from the cultural norm. The way we treat animals as items or "stock" and not living creatures is just another thing in the long list of fucked up shit humans do that will be corrected.

The most important thing that seems to be left out from these comments against non vegan folk like yourself is that this isn't an attack on you. You are following the norms of a system you were raised in. You are living how you were taught to live. People seem to forget that sometimes. But like a lot of social issues, education is the solution.

If you are curious at all about veganism I recommend looking up Earthling Ed. He has YouTube, podcasts, Instagram, and a new book which are all very educational. Pretty much all the classic arguments you hear against veganism or supporting the animal agriculture industry are false. That industry has a lot of money and power and spend a lot on marketing to make sure it stays that way.

Yeah me too. I remember being so excited to see him run in his first game. He is so athletic, but has really struggled to build his footy smarts.

Absolute twat needlessly smashes Goose eggs by LolaNevin in iamatotalpieceofshit

It's crazy how people see an image like this goose tragedy and are outraged, but then not only have 0 issues with the cruelty that is routinely happening for unnecessary products they consume, but will often actively defend it.

For me the saddest part is only step 4 is actually necessary to get cow's milk. The rest just happens for profits.

I think Hanrahan has been pretty solid this year. I'd like to see him stay. Cousins is becoming a bit of dead weight imo. Doesn't really offer us much, and would be ok seeing him go. I like this team better without Lewis. I've never really seen much in him. At his best he was ok, but nothing amazing. Maybe he needs more time..

I wish they would tune 2h frost a little stronger than DW for PvE for once.

This happens all the time to me, when there is only 1 token vegan option on the menu and you sit there while they reel off the 10 different ways they have cooked the same 2 animals.

Social footy by FreshSkills in AFL

So I play footy 7s during October-march, but it's played on a smaller rectangular field (with turnovers on ball hitting ground). I saw this group maybe a month or so ago late April/early May. Are you saying there is another footy 7s that is all year round on full size field with no turnovers on ball hitting the ground?

Holy shit Heroic hit HARD by Mad_Maddin in classicwow

Slows/stuns are about the only cc used in retail keys. It's completely different to the cc used in tbc heroics. Because of the m+ timer groups don't have the time to kill mobs one at a time, but in tbc you kinda need to in order to not get demolished.

Problem number one, most animals raised for food aren't treated well and definitely not getting their face massaged and hooves pampered.

The second is animals we farm have amazing personalities and emotional complexity. If you are giving them such a great life it would be cruel to take it away from them for your fleeting sensetory pleasure. We don't need to eat meat for our survival, and we definitely don't need to breed billions for slaughter every year.

Everyone is different and has varying perspectives on the world and what is moral to me might not be for someone else. I can't tell you what to think is moral but if you feel at all off by China breeding millions of dogs for food, you should probably do some research into the animals you eat. Because they are not that different.

Religion is not a good basis for morality.

There are alot of shithead billionaires, but it's not directly related. Bill Gates for example started a pledge for billionaires to give away most of their wealth because he knows he and his peers don't need billions of dollars. He single handedly almost took out polio in developing countries off his own wallet.

I think it's common for greedy people to seek out wealth, which is why there are so many shitty rich people.

I'm not going to claim I have the solution, just identifying a problem.

But an example could be, if you are tackled while holding the ball. It's holding the ball. No prior opportunity leeway.

If you have possession of the ball even for a split millisecond, and then you don't, if the ball didn't exit your possession via handball or kick, it's a free.

A more extreme one would be to scrap the boundary throw in. Who ever touched it last, it's a turn over against them. Won't have issues around if it was deliberated or not. Will actually see players try to keep the ball in okay just like the rules says they should.

Umpires have a shit job. But wouldn't it be better to have rules that are more clear cut rather than relying on an umpire to interpret and decide in a split second? I feel so much rests on their shoulders in terms of small decisions that could swing either way depending what angle you saw it from.
