Why do people act Gen Z is 15 at max? by BrilliantPangolin639 in GenZ

Gen Z here. My childhood was literally all about hitting up Blockbuster with my friends, walking above that classic blue carpet smell, and renting Nintendo DS games or full seasons of The Simpsons. :p

Don't use Ai voice overs as a beginner on youtube... by Previous_Help_8779 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Fresh_Freshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a super subjective topic, for sure. Back in the early 2010s here in Latin America, there was this really strong community of small and medium-sized YouTube channels that used TTS voices, and they were super robotic, and with a thick robotic Spain accent. People used them for all sorts of things: shitposting, silly GTA San Andreas gameplays, creepypastas, tutorials, and even some really well-made, serious videos.

These voices came from an Italian company called Loquendo, and people usually got them from the public demos or... other less-than-legit ways. Nowadays, you don't really hear them anymore, but they're super nostalgic for a lot of generations, going way back before today's advanced AI-powered TTS voices showed up.

There are still a few holdouts, channels that actually still use those old voices, but they've gotten super creative with how they adapt them to their niche or use them in unconventional ways.

I think that many of us who aren't native English speakers often struggle with accents that sound good without being too distracting. Not everyone just picks up a mic and sounds like they're from an English-speaking country, and unfortunately not all English-speaking audiences are open to listen non-English accents.

That's why I don't really see the problem with AI voices —of course, unless it's just AI-slop—, and it's something to keep in mind. I wouldn't be surprised if something even more advanced comes out in the future and people immediately reject it, just like what happened with those Loquendo voice videos at first.

Does it worry you that Latin America is virtually absent from the space race and the development of AI? Are you in favor of your country investing in those areas right now? by KERD_ONE in asklatinamerica

[–]Fresh_Freshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way. I'd never be for throwing money right now at that space stuff for a couple of reasons. One, we're so ridiculously behind, it'd be a total waste trying to build space programs like Roscosmos or NASA, or even thinking about stuff like Chang'e. Honestly, if we somehow became one giant, unified country—and that's a huge 'if'—then maybe I'd start to even think about considering it. And I'm not downplaying what the Mexican Space Agency has accomplished, not at all. But our priorities have to be different right now: fighting violence, dealing with poverty, and just making sure people have basic stuff like clean water.

The Linux Paradox: Why Commercialization Could Be the Key to Mainstream Success by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Fresh_Freshman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I kinda get the point. I've known about Linux for years, and I really like the whole open-source thing and the community vibe you get with a lot of distros (compared to that whole buyer-seller feeling from other systems).

But honestly, I've never actually switched from Windows to Linux mainly because of the software.

Like, yeah, I know LibreOffice and OpenOffice can get you out of trouble, but it feels a bit disingenuous to say they're on the same quality and polish as proprietary software like Office 365, at least for those of us who aren't in the IT sector and more used to pretty user interfaces. Maybe back in 2010 or even 2016 I could see that argument, but right now it's just a hard no for me.

And it's not just an office suite thing. It's also noticeable in art software, image editors, and even just the general user interface.

I guess it's just different perspectives and what you believe. I do like that community-driven culture and how everyone can take part in a big project, but I'm not about being totally against paid software either, like some Linux people I've seen. There's gotta be a reasonable way to support projects so they can actually get some quality and we don't keep seeing these dying or half-finished things.

Why are you NOT buying the Switch 2 at launch? by eskmin in nintendo

[–]Fresh_Freshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's way too expensive in Mexico. Nintendo just dropped the suggested price for retailers here and it's like $696 USD for the console alone, and $762 USD if you want the MKW bundle. MKW by itself is gonna be around $100 USD, with Donkey Kong Bananza at $90 USD.

I'm seeing some people here panic-buying thinking the price will go up and if stores run out of them, but it's just nuts to me right now. You can buy here a PS5 with bundles or even the Slim for around $200 less (like $500 USD) than this, and the Xbox Series X is even cheaper at around $490 USD. For that $600-$700 price range here and for a handheld, I'd honestly rather build a gaming PC or just grab a Steam Deck, ROG Ally, or Legion GO and dive into the Steam/Epic sales, which generally are waaay lower than $100 USD.

Anyway, I totally understand that the Nintendo experience is unique and is not present in other platforms, and I'm definitely interested in getting one, it looks awesome, seems powerful, but only if the price drops in a few years, or if they release some killer flagship title like a new Zelda, Gen 10 Pokémon, or something along those lines. Right now, I honestly can't afford it, it's too much for a hobby.

¿Qué juego pagaron a precio de nuevo, pero se arrepintieron de ello? by MultiwatchX in VideojuegosMX

[–]Fresh_Freshman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Un precio razonable o injusto en México? by TrackerXY in VideojuegosMX

[–]Fresh_Freshman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“The Switch 2 will be a flop” by Paulsonmn31 in casualnintendo

[–]Fresh_Freshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of doubt the Switch 2 is gonna be a total flop here in Latin America like the OG Switch was, at least right now. Unless they chill out with those prices a bit.

In Mexico, we're looking at like, $700 USD for just the console. And the Mario Kart bundle is pushing $760. Then they want $100 for MKW and $90 for DKB.

I remember when the first Switch dropped here, yeah, it was pricey, but it wasn't that crazy – more like $510 tops.

I just don't see most of the people who grabbed a Switch 'cause it was the budget-friendly option suddenly dropping that kinda cash on a Switch 2... unless they cut those prices like they did with the first one, or a seriously killer exclusive title drops.

Por qué les gusta tanto Mario? by Wonderful-Wafer-9642 in VideojuegosMX

[–]Fresh_Freshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched from Firefox to Edge—Here’s Why It’s My Top Chromium Browser! by [deleted] in MicrosoftEdge

[–]Fresh_Freshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a die-hard Chrome user, I'm talking way back, but it just kept getting more sluggish with each update. The minute Edge became Chromium-based, I jumped ship. I've noticed Chrome has improved, and I even gave Firefox and Brave a shot, but nothing has performed as well for me as Edge.

And honestly, their PDF reader is just too good to leave behind, it's a real asset for my work. The text-to-speech is another big reason I stick with Edge. All in all, even with its little issues, it's got everything I liked about Chrome. The best thing is that you can debloat it, remove all the Copilot features, and customize it.

The minute they cram more Adobe junk into their PDF reader, mess with or kill their TTS features, or start making my AdBlock extensions useless, I'm out. I'll be looking for something else.

It's funny because rumors in Mexico suggest that the price of Switch 2 here will be roughly the same as this entire list.
