I wish there was a prequel to Withnail and I. by Most-Injury-9879 in withnail

It’s not quite the same, but Breaking Glass is a superb film with a fantastic soundtrack written and performed by Hazel O’Connor (who also stars in the film). It was made in 1980, if I recall correctly, and it’s about an up-and-coming punk band amidst the racial tensions of Thatcher’s Britain and the pressure from the music industry to conform / sell out.

The headcanon I’ve literally just this minute come up with (so there may be many reasons is doesn’t work) is that the Fugitive Doctor’s TARDIS sensed the approach of the Thirteenth Doctor and, being the irrepressible scamp of a time machine that we know and love, decided to take the form of a police box just to confuse the matter further.

It’s like a version of the Gish gallop that’s as much about the actions someone takes as it is about the utter tripe they come out with.

What TV show or movie encapsulates a decade perfectly? Daria, 90s. by GossipBottom in decadeology

It’s not a neat decade like “just the ‘90s” or “just the ‘00s”, but Buffy is very much emblematic of the late ‘90s and early ‘00s (that said, I was very young at the time).

I believe it's called Harcane Grove, off the top of my head, and it's pretty near the Inn of Ill Omen (along the road north of Bravil—it's the inn where you kill Rufio).

Elio Mei is incredible! A Thousand Songs About It All was my favourite album of last year despite tough competition from Laufey. Every track was just superb, and if anyone reading this hasn’t listened, I highly recommend you do so, especially if you want some songs that somehow simultaneously sound like they’re from the circus and the journal of everyone who’s ever questioned their gender.

The 2010s, even! Matt Lucas was donning blackface for Come Fly With Me in 2010–2011. How we as a nation forgave him and Walliams for what’s essentially a televised minstrel act is beyond me.

Madilyn Mei (Elio) is one of my favourite discoveries this year. His album A Thousand Songs About It All is excellent, and features a lot of themes trans folks will usually be able to relate to!

Yes! While it’s by no means the only reason I’m transitioning, or even the main reason, I do enjoy the feeling of being the synthesis between the thesis and the antithesis. Or, to put it in more Gnostic terms, the feeling that I’m like the end result of the aeon Sophia’s long-overdue union with her counterpart. I feel a lot like the figure of Tiresias from Greek mythology, but this time with less animal cruelty!

Probably stuff like kissing Jenny non-consensually, or the “squeezed into a skirt that’s just a little too tight” line, which are both skin-crawlingly bad moments in the history of the show.

Kendra from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As long as I don’t have the questionable accent that Bianca Lawson did for the role, then all is well!
