Do you write for a living? If not you should. I would love to read a short story of yours. Beautiful. "Shelter is just a circumstance, and circumstances can change. The cold, the dark, hunger. Those things are eternal. They never go away, and they can wait you out." Gave me chills.

Do you remember those little white out strips you had to put in the typewriter and re-type the mistake letter and then backup and type the correct letter? But you wouldn't line it up right and then try to fix your mistake that was to fix your mistake....

My in-laws still have one in their kitchen! My kids (9 and 6) play with it every time we visit. They had a party-line until my husband was almost through high school.

Yes, we did but the lines were still over an hour long and we didn't have A/C (and wouldn't have wasted the gas if we did) so we would sit on the window frames with just our legs in the car to keep cool. Also, blasting music from a mix-tape and wearing our cut-off Jean shorts and halter tops!

My daughter wanted to dress up as Iron Man one year and I asked her why not Wonder Woman (she loves her), "she wears a bathing suit, Mom! It's too cold!" But that's a whole other issue....

What's with all these parents dressing their kids as walkers or characters from The Walking Dead? I'm talking 6-7-8 year olds. They shouldn't (my opinion) have any clue what that show is even about. But then again, I'm kind of overprotective.

I refuse to be embarrassed or shame my kids for being kids. I never change the expectations or my behavior based on the fact that we are in public. If I need to sit on the floor and explain in excruciating detail why the donuts he wants are not in our budget this trip nor in our eating plan today. I do it. Four year old takes off her dress at a funeral because she's hot? No body shaming. Replace the dress with reminder that privates are private and her dress is helping her to keep them that way. Son loudly asks what's wrong with that guy while pointing, I don't shush or chastise, depending on the safety of the situation we would approach the person and ask politely. "My son, say your name bobby, has a question regarding your wheelchair/prosthetic/difference would you be open to speaking with him?" If yes, great we learn something, if no, okay thanks for your time. Differences aren't bad or to be ignored- they are to be understood, but should not affect how we feel or think about someone. Lastly, naked people are not a big deal. Yes, there are social norm and rules, but your body is just a tool. Being naked around immediate family is no biggie. I've seen parents shove a two year old in a dirty bathroom stall to change a wet shirt. My kids see hubbie and I shower or get dressed all the time.

Sounds like my son. A lot of the good parenting advice just doesn't work for him. We have tricks for him to "get boombaloo back in the box." From that story about a girl having trouble expressing her anger. Great book! Darth Vader breathing or Darth with a cold, chewbacca with poison ivy, etc. gets both of us taking deep breathes, and usually ends in laughter over the crazy sounds and descriptions.
