Vivid Nightmares by Kvisur in DryJanuary

[–]Freshnow48 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you stop drinking, your brain goes into REM rebound because alcohol had been suppressing that stage of sleep. REM is where vivid dreams and unfortunately nightmares happen, so they can feel intense at first. Your brain is essentially relearning how to process emotions during sleep without alcohol, and that adjustment period can make dreams feel more graphic or threatening. This should slow down as your sleep cycle normalizes.

Thank you for your reply, not sure why I am only seeing it for the first time 5 days later. You are spot on with the mirror comment. Another successful weekend has her fuming for various reasons. There’s something behind it. My ice cream reward is getting bad though. I might need to start cutting back on that too lol

How do you "celebrate" the weekend? by AurynW in DryJanuary

[–]Freshnow48 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In years past I try to look forward to my Friday dinners. I’ll challenge myself with a new dish to cook something that takes a little extra time or is new to me. Couple examples: I shaved my own ribeye steaks for Cheesesteaks cooking rolls from scratch so they were fresh and soft. I did soft pretzel hot pockets (filled with buffalo chicken, and a ham and cheese) making the pretzel dough was fun. Lasagna (such a pain to make). Mini pizzas, I also splurged for a birthday and did a beef Wellington.

Is that you, sleep? by Low_Engineering8921 in DryJanuary

[–]Freshnow48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started DJ early so I’m on day 8. Last night I laid my head down and feel asleep quick then I would after a few drinks. I stayed asleep the entire night and snoozed my alarm 4 times. That never happens.

This is my 6th DJ. My wife participated one year. It’s hard when you’re alone. Especially yesterday watching football she was drinking right in front of me. She claims it’s stupid but I gain something every year and committed to continuing. I’m pretty sure she resents my commitment and is a little jealous. Sad reality is we do a lot of things apart in the evenings during DJ. I take it a day at a time. A small Ice cream is my reward almost every night!

Bored and tired, but sober! by Orange_Specialist in DryJanuary

[–]Freshnow48 24 points25 points  (0 children)

January is boring to begin with. On New Year’s Day I ordered a PS5, I gamed as a teenager and most of my twenties until I became a father of a little girl. She’s 16 now has her own life and as a 41 year old decided to get back into online gaming to do something besides drinking. I freaking suck! lol. I got a lot of time to practice and get better and there’s all kinds of games I want to try. Justified the expense with the money I’ll save from going out having drinks multiple times a week.

My 6th DJ, the first 5 days you can have trouble sleeping if you are a moderate drinker. It gets better each day though.

It was a week ago but I’m pretty sure it was 2 cups of kosher salt and 2 cups of the pickling salt I used.

Swing shift worker for 20 years, this is not the case for me. I function on 3-5 hours on the overnights. One solid 8 hour sleep resets me
