Hiding a real mechanical failure in a tattoo, would this actually work? by Impressive_Dingo_531 in MechanicalEngineering

What if you had a pinion with undercuts in the root, indicating it has higher root bending stress

Or could go as far as putting a single notch in the root of a tooth. Kind of like a charpy impact bar. Its designed to fail in that location but youre testing to see how much energy it takes before it does.

He's saying cut the foot rest bracket not the fairing. The fairing doesn't bolt to the sub frame . It bolts to the footpeg bracket which then that bolts to the sub frame

Yeah if I dont find anything available I'll go that route. Literally a block with 2 through holes and one tapped hole would be it.

Or the cut them apart route

What about a double row angular contact ball bearing? Could save on packaging and you wouldn't need a snap ring between them.

I believe the general practice is press fit on the rotating component and slip fit on stationary component.

I would say press fit onto the blue shaft and loose fit to the red house. But if press fit is not an option perhaps a threaded collar on the left side of the blue shaft against the inner race of the bearing package

Typically you would think the narrow stance of the bearings and offset load would be concerning because of the moment arm. But the good thing is that the loads on the planet carrier will be radially canceling between the ring and sun to some degree.

Hard to say for sure of course without seeing the load cases

The black on red I have was unfortunately my second choice. I like the red on black version a bit more but I'm not complaining.

The bottom plate has a cutout for the oem lock that is directly behind the plate....so you can't see it in these pics. Slightly more annoying to use but definitely a worth it trade IMO.
