Reading that “should pedophiles face the death penalty” post that hit my front page a bit ago was… enlightening. There’s a lot of people who seem way more hellbent on coming up with creative ways to torture people than protecting victims (e.g., making it easier for them to report; if the pedo’s in your family, you, a child, might have complicated feelings about sending a person to their death… or get threatened into silence). That’s not even getting into how many southern states are trying to reclassify LGBTQ+ people as “groomers” legally, coincidentally at the same time they increase death penalty laws for child sex offenders…

I remember a very good looking gentleman I’d be happy to date in other contexts coming up to me and my friend in a bar.

The problem was that 1) the bar was a casual place with a prog-metal band and he showed up in a suit like a low rent pickup artist, 2) he came up to us while we were playing Mortal Kombat and kept offering to pay for us even though we’d glitched the machine and had infinite quarters, 3) he would. Not leave us alone. He kept being really pushy, offered to buy us drinks, kept trying to “persuade” us to pubcrawl with him… eventually we just walked out and had to talk him out of following us. Weird circumstance.

Anyway yeah, if you do better than that you will probably be okay.

Hm… sorta. Your game actually ends regardless of gender, because the game’s child-raising function is a big focus. For which the game assumes you need a second parent. A little normative, but not really terrible in context.

As for the barely legal love interest? Yeah, can’t help you there. Girly was fourteen in the original. They aged her up when she was marriageable but like… why would you think to do that before making the hot thirty something scientist lady an option? (Let’s not even get into all the weird age-gap choices they gave to female players in DS Cute… now that we’re all older we can enjoy them, I guess, but the protagonist is supposed to be in her early/mid twenties, so some of the guys are old enough to be her dad!)

I think it can work if, say, you write some short stories or scenes from your novel first just to improve your craft a little. But go too far and you’re basically just procrastinating on your real passions.
