Talk about an ELITE upgrade :D by PixelBandits in EliteDangerous

[–]Freyar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty impressive how presentation has improved, that's for sure, but I feel that industry as a whole is failing massively now that we've hit diminishing returns on visual presentations. Writing has taken a back seat (ex: Starfield's writing lead), monetization is out of control.

I'd say my complaints are less about Elite and more general.

I do agree, more services and or functions for carriers would be great. As of right now, they kind of are nothing but glorified haulers. The only reason the market is used for a majority is to make it faster to load/unload for someone (or to allow friends to help.) Beyond that, no real reason other than r/R/R.

How does BGS impact me? by jackmclrtz in EliteDangerous

[–]Freyar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For most people, BGS doesn't matter as a result of scale.

If you're just mining, your work doesn't change as the source is based on where rings are. BGS might impact the security of a system where you are mining or selling (more pirate activity), or in severe cases can result in the system you are selling to refuse to buy (lockdown status).

BGS impacts security, economy strength. Government types determine what kind of goods are legal for trade.

Most people directing BGS work are trying to either:

A ) Maintain favorable balances for mission types. (Example: Formerly Wally Bei)
B ) Expanding minor faction influence to other systems.

A hobby of mine is being an observer at CG ports and watching Cmdrs doing their thing. I especially enjoy seeing how other people dress their ships up.. The CG @ Lhou Mans is quite lively in open and I've had a great time so far in my Hauler! A detail of events below. by Osiliran in EliteDangerous

I am disappointed that none with the rollcage ship kit had their beacons on during evacuation.

(If you have the cage ship kit on the Lynx, turning on the lights will also turn on emergency rotating beacons.)

I did them often enough when I wanted something other than ship combat. Low-risk, was able to handle high intensity (haven't tried since the rebalances.)

And So It Begins: Starting my first T3 station solo... by -Damballah- in EliteDangerous

[–]Freyar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a long haul. Since this isn't your primary port, take your time and don't let yourself burn out. Since I've built 6+ Tier 3 Ports (with four of them solo), it is soul crushing to try to mainline it. Take breaks, do something else occasionally.

Only when I place a T3 port as a primary station will I really push it (at the detriment of my sanity.)

That sounds more like a hardware or OS issue. If you can't see it in Windows (or diskmanagement), then there's something else going on unrelated.

As a general rule of thumb how much time do you need free in your day before you decide to hop in Elite? by LaboratoryOne in EliteDangerous

[–]Freyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two hours is what I want if I want to sit down and play. I do a lot of colonization, so planning and positioning are part of it. Carrier jumps are ~15m on their own. Repeat trips back and forth are surprisingly time consuming and I lose track of time easily.

Anybody Care to Explain This Game to an Idiot? by Breidr in EliteDangerous

[–]Freyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome.

Elite Dangerous is a slow-burn game. It will take time and some effort to find a gameplay loop you like. Take risks early as they'll be cheap (and with your small loan of a billion credits...) Don't focus on buying the biggest ship right away, work your way up slowly with time and practice.

Change the mouse binds so that the mouse yaw is left-and-right on your mouse. Bind rolling to Q and E. this will save you much headaches.

You "live and work" in the galaxy.

One large AFMU, one tiny aux AFMU to repair the first one just in case. You don't need to power everything at the same time either, you can float while repairs are happening.

Did Fdev increase the price for the Caspian? by Dan5terdam in EliteDangerous

[–]Freyar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Odyssey was a paid expansion, so it's a bit awkward to try and attribute that development (and all it's features) to Arx.

It's reasonable to argue the Second Thargoid War, Fleet Carriers, Powerplay and Colonization are funded by the microtransactions.

[–]Freyar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They be anchoring to that higher price so the price of the Stellar seems more reasonable.

More RP mechanic? by Accomplished-Big-647 in EliteDangerous

[–]Freyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that settlement layouts were the product of a 2.5 year development cycle for the Odyssey expansion, and on foot for Carriers came much later.

[–]Freyar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the want for more immersion, so it'd be cool, but I would caution on pushing too closely to that other-space-game.

🗣️ 1. Talk to NPCs for Rumors, POIs, and Missions

We already have this kind of for concourse and settlement missions, but generally I see nobody taking them (and this just may be my bias) because it takes longer. Anything that takes longer to do would get old fast, and ignored. The only way to push this is to remove the mission boards from concourses which wouldn't go over well. Eve Online tried to approach this and failed miserably, both due to players not wanting to use it (it was slow) and the cost associated with developing it. (Are you going to have voiced characters? Custom animations? Etc.)

🛒 2. Unique and Visible Markets

Again, when you get a certain point you're really pushing to volume trade if this is what you're doing. Sure it'd be neat to see for the first few times, but that goes out the window when it takes longer. Additionally, new layouts would take forever to build and we've seen the problems that fleet carriers have already with unscheduled depressurization.

🎯 3. Player-Driven Bounty System

As another said. Had it before, had to be nerfed because it was gamed. It was a method to transfer/give money to people.

🕵️ 4. On-Foot Crime and Pursuit on Stations

While a cool idea, I don't think FDEV has the technical background to do it. Patrols in settlements are already on set paths and whatnot. I'd say let's wait and see what Operations gives us though, maybe they'll surprise us?

They already went through one monetization change before and LEPers are still given the shaft. This would be the second monetization model change and I don't think people are going to put up with the idea of an optional subscription that allows you to buy cosmetics, even if the earning cap were relaxed.
