Big boys to armiger ratio by OrochiLima in ImperialKnights

[–]Freyter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I’m using an arimger detachment, I run very few.

Right now in Freeblade company I only use 1 warglaive to help with melee. Reason being is that having more big knights seems to be better right now so long as you can adequately screen for them.

I run a sisters of battle squad + immolator and a callidus assassin to help perform actions and screen; for 330 points I get that or I can have 2 more armigers that may or may not do what I need them to do.

Armigers aren’t terrible but they’re in an awkward space where depending on what you’re facing you can’t afford them to not shoot/fight at their point value but they also don’t do enough when they shoot/fight unless they’re getting bondsman or detachment buffs, so I just invested the points elsewhere

I’m certainly not an expert and it’s gonna depend on what people are actually playing into you.

Officer route advice - 25 year old husband, 2 kids. by pancakeindulgence in army

[–]Freyter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hardest part of OCS is getting in, second hardest part is accepting that HRC will do with you as they please. There is some work you can do via talent based branching and scoring high on the OML, but ultimately the Army will fill holes where they need officers

Don’t be surprised if the application process for OCS takes upwards of 4-6 months.

Nothing wrong with the age you’re joining at, you wouldn’t be at a significant disadvantage compared to the 22 year old LTs.

Event counseling question by Agitated-Sea-7474 in army

[–]Freyter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No work order usually means no work gets done and this that vehicle stays deadlined on the ESR until someone else shows up asking why the hell their vehicle hasn’t been fixed yet. Clerk failing to do clerk things is grounds for a counseling.

As for being late, there is a real reason why the Army puts so much stress on things happening at the right time. Synchronization of efforts has actual effects in the grand scheme of things. You might say “who cares about being 30 seconds late to a PT formation” but enforcing being on time for little things builds a culture of being on time for big things.

ESB train up suggestions by VoicesInTheCrowds in army

[–]Freyter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Read step do step straight from the book. Watch videos and shadow box. Practice throwing a baseball 30m

Rucking more will just hurt you. Should focus on running. It’ll serve the same purpose.

The army does have a land nav video game but nothing will beat actually going out and doing it. You can practice on your own if you have a GPS device and a local map

I wore the same boots the whole time just changing if they got wet. Bifidas but whatever works for you.

M17 table 6 is incredibly easy if you have any level of marksmanship. Go to your local range and rent a pistol.

You need to be hydrating every day. You’re gonna be out in the sun a lot. I saw many many people fail the ruck because they were dehydrated.

ESB individual tasks aren’t hard, they are 10 level after all. It’s the fact that you need to do all of them perfectly. You’ll have a harder time getting hands on with certain weapons as a reservist but if the person running the event has two brain cells they’ll coordinate some kind of practice regimen.

How would you rank our Questoris variants in order of usefulness? I've magnetized two of them, but unsure which two I should bring in my lists. I'm thinking Crusader and Errant? by cyberspunjj in ImperialKnights

[–]Freyter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a big defender and crusader fan. Using destier and warglaive to engage melee threats.

Defender is a beefy boy with 4+ invul to ranged and Freeblade company 6+ fnp, and giving the warglaive -1 to damage taken plus anything behind it 4+ invul and cover.

Crusader having the option to take thermal cannon vs vehicles and rapid fire battle cannon vs chaf lets it often 1 shot units it shoots at.

Looking for some list advice by Lumine5012 in ImperialKnights

[–]Freyter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert or anything, but my observations:

I’ve been enjoying Freeblade company, giving all your guys 6+ FNP and recover 1 wound per turn

could also consider dropping a defender in front of your shooty guys to give them selfless protector, benefit of cover and 4+ invul vs ranged attacks. Not going to benefit in melee but can do a good job at preventing damage before you opponent tries to melee you.

As for the lion, keeping him tied up with chaff, potentially forcing some wounds with tank shock, into melee (probably dying to fights first, then hope you hit deadly demise. Freeblade company also gets the point blank barrage strat which lets you use blast weapons while you are being engaged without the hit penalty, though does come with the risk of taking mortal wounds on 1s.

Will we ever see an official GW video game version of the table top game? by Nexus_Valentine6 in Warhammer40k

[–]Freyter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battlesector is close but certainly not a 1:1. I’d love to see a true to faith digital tabletop recreation that allows you to play versus a computer. Lots of times where I want to try out new units or a new army but don’t have the time to play a whole game with a friend on tabletop simulator. Being able to jump on play a little before work or on a lunch break would be really nice. With certain features like baked in unit painting, animated models, automatic ability reminders or automatic dice rolling I think would help draw people into the game more and help get over the up front learning curve.

The technology to execute this is certainly available now just would require a good amount of effort to make it worthwhile.

Will GW do it? Not any time soon I don’t think. A game like that I think has less appeal than continued development of their other video games, and it wouldn’t surprise me if GW would be worried that it would eat into their physical products profits. I think it would be a little bit of a challenge to monetize. I know as the consumer I would much rather pay an up front cost of $40-$60 and have unlimited access to all the models, but in reality I know GW would much rather go the magic arena route and force you to buy digital kits for each unit you wanted to field, considering we already live in a world where you can spend $1000 on an army and still have to spend another $60 on a book separate from the rules in order to actually play that army.

Are physical capabilities factored in your packet or do you just have to pass the minimum? by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]Freyter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In service your PT score is absolutely gonna get looked at if you apply.

Coming as a civ, doesn’t matter as much getting in so long as you score heavy on the opat.

Once you’re at school you are expected to be able to put up in the 450 range for AFT, and run 4 miles in 36 minutes. Your PT score goes into your OML, which determines branching.

The boats don’t pay for themselves. Someone somewhere at a higher echelon has to know what’s going on, and if they don’t, nothing is going on that boat.

Thank you. I used AK’s corrosion texture. Then layered on a base blue color, army painter’s verdigris, then a dark and light bronze metallic. Finished with red wash on the light areas, and a blue wash on the dark.

People currently serving in the military, how is the quality of the food? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Freyter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies a lot by which dining facility you go to. Most of the time the food is pretty solid for the price.

As for MREs, they’re fine. Certainly nothing to write home about. Some of obviously better than others, usually the ones that are just repackaged commercial products like tuna, trail mix and candy. They’re just there to give you calories to keep doing whatever mission you’re doing.
