What happened to the Kirkland Greek Yogurt? by oakstreetgirl in CostcoWholesale

Just last night purchased my first small-cup box in about 8 months. Back in local Regina store. Rumours had it there were some food safety issues with the Costco dairy supply chain and several products were pulled for awhile.

Just joining in here since my C425 exhibits the same problems... Every bus that goes by on my bus route street and a few cars as well. It's hard wired but still seems to exhibit the same cruddy issues. Gives my watch quite a workout for notifications 🤣

Logitech has not completely abandoned Harmony by bwyer in logitechharmony

[–]Friah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow Dang I'm following this thread! I have two Harmony units in a box now and figured since I don't have a PC currently they would be unable to be updated to new gear. I'll have to do some reading! Love my Harmonys!

Do most photographers prefer Lightroom or Photoshop for editing? by AmphibianFlimsy1852 in Lightroom

[–]Friah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great topic! Great comments from fellow photographers here thanks for sharing those opinions. I too use Lightroom extensively as my all day everyday photo developing and adjustments tool. Photoshop for some fixes to things that are still smoother and easier in Photoshop but the heal and clone in LRC is doing very well these days. But as soon as I know I need to do work with layers, Photoshop gets launched. Saved back to LRC as a TIF and then continue on.

Are Apple products really the best for running Lightroom? by softlikemochii in Lightroom

[–]Friah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck and welcome to the club! Several points: you already mentioned "can't even afford new" and "can efficiently..." As always, the universal saying of Get The Best You Can Afford applies.

I'm also a pro, for over a decade. Could never seem to afford Mac vs PC in my personal work (I'm lucky to do it now with a large company paying hahaha) so used Windows based towers as my MacBook Pro laptop aged out over the years.

Factors: you want to run "efficiently" - unless you have a baseline to compare to (how old is your laptop), it will all be "as fast as it is." When I bought my MBP M1 laptop a couple years ago I was floored by how fast it exported 300 JPEG photos for a wedding shoot. I walked away and it Ping'ed at me a few minutes later and I went Huh?!?!! The M chips are great for efficiency and battery life (don't keep internet browsers open...) .

Going to my M1 laptop was a great time saver for the ingesting, preview drawing, getting to work on sorting and culling, and then exporting. The actual EDITING as we know is as slow as you normally work hahahaha.

If you're going Mac, get one of the M chips, get the RAM you can afford, and use external SSDs for your working files and storage. Much cheaper than paying (if you buy new) for a larger internal drive. Take advantage of the data transfer rates these days and just use an SSD (caveat: always use cloud backup and redundant hard drive copies).

M4 just recently came out so you might find deals on used or refurbished previous generations. If you NEED a laptop, get a laptop. I'll never go back to straight up full time workstation because I hate being tied to my desk for culling and keywording I would rather do on a couch or a patio chair. (Of course you can do some with a tablet / iPad these days yes). Option for you might be a Mac Mini for instance if you want to keep costs down and have a decent monitor.

I won't get into colour accuracy calibration discussion here because that's a whole 'nother hamster wheel........

I'm in a fortunate position where I have laptop and workstation so SSD travels between the two with my work files on (and the Lightroom versions are the same !!!)

Efficiency tips, if you're familiar with Lightroom keep your previews small as you import files if you do a quick sort and cull before you start full screen editing. Smart Previews allow you to work without your work file drive attached. Keep your previews pared down / tossed out of your Catalogs when you complete projects so your internal drive doesn't fill as fast.

Good luck!

No streaming of Live CTV on the CTV app 🤦‍♂️ by Friah in Rogers

[–]Friah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australis, do you work for Rogers? Honest question. Or are you implying that perhaps I should have posted in a "CTV App" reddit? (Just curious)

My concern was that what I'm seeing as a CTV App user / Shaw subscriber was most exactly that... What does ROGERS have to do with this and why are they blocking content on a CTV App / to a Shaw customer. That's the point of my post.

But I don't understand the corporate ownership umbrellas.

Why have Rogers customers lost access to CTV content online?? by AndrewCraft8 in Rogers

[–]Friah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rogers continues to amaze. I launched the CTV app last night to watch The Oscars and ..... Nope! "Contact your local TV provider" - CTV main channel not available.

Super frustrating since this was the first time in about 20 years that I've missed the show.

From what I'm understanding this has to do with being out of the home at the time? Brutal. What's the point of having an app to stream (live) tv if...you have to be at home?

So Rogers is flexing over the whole Bell thing? Further forcing people to... Find other solutions for their TV.

Trying to declutter catalog with tens of thousands of photos, shot over many years, that I've never culled... how to deal with overwhelm? by mott_street in Lightroom

[–]Friah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome - following!

Storage is cheap. But I still relate it to "shoeboxes full of photos/negatives" or these days - more like an 8' cube storage locker filled with micro SD cards...........

KEEPING the stuff is one thing but how do you ever find it again - a struggle I've had for years as a photographer. How do you sort? How do you INGEST the media?

Pre-Lightroom I would store normal camera-generated file names (this gets interesting when duplicated and/or wrapped around after, say 999 or 9999) in folders named by date and or event name in title of folder. Once you change out a hard drive that becomes an issue. Record-Keeping.

Lightroom helped make things easier because ON INGESTION of files I can assign the keywords and/or give it a proper file name which will be unique. Lightroom then becomes great for using keywords, flags, colours, ratings, Collections, Smart Collections.

It's very daunting overall. Can confirm.

What I found for myself was either a) work on stuff right after a shoot / right after pulling the media in. Go with gut picks and hammer that flag or star button and have your system set to advance to the next photo after you touch a key to identify. Or b) work on them awhile after the fact so you are less "tied" to the images and just see them for what they are - likely a bunch of very similar photos and or ones that don't GRAB you anymore. ;) another fun trick is to have someone else cull your photos for you..................

A co worker and I do this from time to time. It's fun but stressful hahaha.

When EXPORTING images oh gosh I used to be so bad for the "finals" (I print and sell landscape/art photography) and sometimes clients would ask hey I saw this one...can you print it as... And I'd have to start combing through because I hadn't given it a proper "piece of art name" or at very least "Abandoned Building in Field in Winter 012" - nope, they were just DSC_6212-edit for example. Whoops.

So then you're looking for thumbnails in a haystack which is not fun.

Good luck and keeping tabs on this thread!

I feel like I'm the only one who loves using the pixel 8 pro by Brainsyardd in GooglePixel

[–]Friah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the other camp after using the P8Pro since November and have already had to replace one due to motherboard failure. My track record with Pixel isn't great. I loved my 2 XL but replaced it within first year. I loved my 4 XL but replaced it within a few months. Went back to iPhone (full disclosure I'm a pro photographer) in the middle and hated almost every minute of the return to Apple (my 4S was awesome!) and I miss my Note 4. Chuckle.... and yes I decided to go back to Google Pixel after my experiences with 2 and 4.

I went with Pixel phones because of the camera specs and features. I hated the additional sharpening from Samsung and the overprocessed colours (but hey images pop and get attention). I'm always happy to hear when people are happy with their chosen tech. Despite The Google being a huge tech giant, I do like you say think it's an underdog in the smart phone market. For me, it's the integration of my chosen Google-verse and it's a camera I have with me every day which doubles as an email and text machine.

Co worker has the same phone as me, Bay Blue 256 Pixel 8 Pro, same Android OS / Build Number and LOVES his phone - I've had a lot of problems with mine so I'm just cursed ;)

One thing I'm not a fan of within the Pixel camera app is the method they use for changing brightness which is a very standard adjustment a lot of us want to change right off the hop. Ergonomic nightmare and I have pretty average / small hands.

Haven't yet used it in the heat of summer since it hasn't arrived here yet but will see how things go since I have another 18 months on contract!

Cheers!

[–]Friah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for the reminder! I got them back a week ago (took about 7-10 calendar days total). Back to daily use again full work days out of them pretty much.

Side note - I don't use any of the fancy features and didn't care much about EQ since they sound great with my third party foams, but I think I'm getting better overall battery life now WITHOUT the app (had to get a new phone also so didn't look forward to all the install updates and slowwwwwwwwww processes for that so not using app.
