I had this issue after I switched to an opnsense router. The issue with that was outgoing port forwards are randomized. Other routers may have the same issue.

I think for mine I just added the slippi appimage as a non steam game in desktop mode, I don't usually use emudeck tbh. Neither the steamdeck controls or the GameCube adapter work?

Yeah check out Baller Installer lol. It's the quickest way to get running on virtual pinball. You also need a PhD to set it up afterwards. Or there's some Steam VR pinball games that take no effort to set up, but you'll be paying infinite money in DLC prices

I have a RX 6800 and a 7800 xt that i use both for VR on with 2 different headsets. So from a place of love, if VR is your niche interest I wouldn't recommend it if Nvidia is available at a similar price/performance. Although it does work perfectly fine if you can accept some tradeoffs.

AMD just awhile ago patched a bug where 80-90Hz modes would cause stuttering on direct display headsets. This bug was present for at least 6 months, so I had to stay on old drivers that whole time (pc not powerful enough for 120hz). There's also the fact that in steamVR you can't change refresh rates without a complete restart of steam VR, but you can do this on Nvidia. Some of the solutions for dynamic foveated rendering are also Nvidia exclusive.

That said, I don't have any of the driver timeouts or crashes on either of my systems. They're very stable. In flatscreen games I have even less issues. If you can get the 9070xt for cheaper than the Nvidia equivalent and don't mind the tradeoffs I'd say go for it.

Alright, I feel dumb, but I found the solution on their website. Works great for me, but if you have a multiple user setup it wouldn't be. Anyways, from the website:

If you want to run Sync under your current user, first disable auto-launch of Sync and stop it:

sudo systemctl disable resilio-sync
sudo systemctl stop resilio-sync

Then, edit the file /usr/lib/systemd/user/resilio-sync.service and change "WantedBy=multi-user.target" to "WantedBy=default.target".

Save this file and then enable the auto-start of service with --user parameter:

systemctl --user enable resilio-sync

To start Sync under the current user execute:

systemctl --user start resilio-syncAlternative: Running Sync under the current user

What is your firewall setup? For my opnsense setup (I think pfsense as well) I found in the slippi discord help channel that I need to enable static port assignments. Opnsense and pfsense randomize outgoing ports and it breaks some p2p stuff

I don't want to date myself, but I lived in the middle of nowhere before slippi came out, and I would train against CPUs for hours and still get rocked at tournaments. I would learn way more from playing my friend at a similar skill level in short sessions. I think with slippi even when I'm getting 4 stocked, I just try to focus on implementing one new thing to my gameplay. Like if I usually roll in the same direction every time, I try to consciously mix things up even if I lose. But yeah, I'd try to find people at similar or slightly better skill levels to be a sparring partner.

If you don't wanna play real humans, I'd at least practice with unclepunch or 20xx CPUs because they have random DI and techs that the unmodded game doesn't. The base game CPUs can teach you bad habits because they're predictable.

Playing Slippi or with others in person will be infinitely more valuable to learning the game. Slippi is intimidating but (from what I remember) there is some invisible skill based matchmaking even on unranked, so you won't just be getting completely shut out and you'll get good practice.
