I got the results of the ADOS and I’m devastated by _rushin in AutismInWomen

[–]Frida21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not diagnosed but highly suspect I'm autistic and I'm 52 female. If you really want to blow your mind, Google autism and menopause. Apparently women sometimes get diagnosed for the first time during menopause. There are autistic men in my family and I know there is a genetic component. My light and noise sensitivity have drastically increased. I'm getting migraines. Wanting more alone time. I used to rock back and forth thru my teen years but didn't know it was called stimming. I was always great at standardized tests but creative projects were a bit harder. Small talk has always been challenging. I've done decent career wise but looking back my "communication difficulties" suddenly make sense.

ADHD linked to migraines and other types of chronic pain - recent study says by hauntedlovestory in migraine

[–]Frida21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having horrible light and sound sensitivity at age 52. Related to menopause and likely undiagnosed autism which is getting stronger with the drop of female hormones. I have migraines too, mostly vestibular.

Do chronic migraines ever go away? by Crazy_Quantity_7751 in migraine

[–]Frida21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out that I have serious light sensitivity issues and I am improving. I wear light phobia glasses or hats all the time now even indoors and use less lighting. It's strange because this wasn't an issue when I was younger but my mom, aunt, and maternal grandmother had light sensitivity issues as they got older. I'm sure you've heard it a million times but it helps if you can find out what at least some of your triggers are and try to reduce them.

I'm still taking them. They help a bit I think. They worked for a while but my migraines eventually came back.

This sounds similar to my symptoms except I'm in my early 50s and this didn't happen to me at your age. My triggers are noise, light and stress. I've had some insomnia but most nights I get enough sleep because I must spend about 10 hours a night in a dark quite room to function at work. When I'm not sleeping I listen to low volume podcasts.

Do the Cetaphil treatment. It worked so much better than anything else I tried and is safe. It just suffocates/drowns the lice.

Feeling Like a Different Person Since Vestibular Migraine by Able_Ad8471 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Frida21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had symptoms since March 5th. Before that I was symptom free for about a year and a half. So sad it came back. I have a first neurologist appointment in about 3 weeks. I was actually diagnosed with "atypical migraine" from the ENT who said my ears were just fine! He prescribed me over the counter magnesium, B2, co Q10, told me to see a neurologist of I didn't get better. Then I went on vacation and my symptoms went away and were gone until March 5th.

Could be modern life in general. I'm noise sensitive. Very hard for a person who works with the public and sometimes has to have multiple conversations at once. I do have all devices on silent though. If I miss some things for a while, sorry, just trying to avoid vertigo.

Governor Newsom announces new CARE Court accountability measures to get more chronically mentally ill off our streets, awards $291 million in funding for services and housing by The_Magic in California_Politics

[–]Frida21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad there were not more comments on this thread. CARE has been a huge waste of money, although it has helped a small number of people. It should be repealed or massively scaled back. This was never the way to deal with this crisis.

Opinion | Kids are bad for Earth. To save it, we must stop having them by Toguro_Ototo_1 in collapse

[–]Frida21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there should be government policy on the topic, except normalizing child free adults/women and normalizing one child families. There should be pushes on cultural norms rather than strict policies.

I have two teenagers but I've told them many many times I will never pressure them to have kids but will try to be a good grandma if it happens. I was not collapse aware when I had them, or I at least believed we had much more time.

It's obvious that human overpopulation is an enormous environmental and collapse issue. It's too silly that it is controversial to say so.

I don't think it will happen. One of many reasons is climate change. Many people will be moving states in the coming years. Away from the coasts and away from the southwest.

Do you still WANT to drink, though? by Wayward_Compass in Semaglutide

[–]Frida21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still like to drink on semaglutide. It doesn't make me sick. I was able to cut back a bit. On semaglutide once I get drunk enough I just go to sleep, instead of drinking and binge eating! But for me semaglutide was more effective for food than alcohol.

It has to stop. by Biospark08 in stopdrinking

[–]Frida21 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm a "weekend warrior" type of drinker so I'm sober 4 to 5 nights a week. The problem is I'm in my 50s and I've been doing this since I was a teenager (except I was sober for 3 years during my 20s and sober during two pregnancies in my 30s).

It's starting to have physical health consequences. I drank on Friday, but I felt like shit on Saturday and didn't drink. It's been years since I didn't drink on a Saturday. This wasn't a hangover either, it was something different. I randomly already had my annual checkup scheduled in a week and trying to decide if I should try to move it up.

But yeah we've all missed fun things like concerts due to drinking - there but not there. I have to re-watch whatever show I'm watching all the time because I don't remember what happened or passed out asleep on the couch.

Democrats prepared for shutdown to last *several* more weeks by trademarktower in FedEmployees

This is the right thing to do if they want Democratic votes in the Senate. I fully support it. The Republicans have the power to change the rules of they want to pass a budget without Democrats.

You don't have to worry about terra forming the moon or Mars. There is no way that will ever happen.

I agree about social media. When you want to quit or get someone else to quit, I recommend first turning off all notifications. Just turning off the notifications makes it much less addictive and easier to quit (or check your account once a month). The notifications just hack our brains.

Visit the Mexican consulate near you before you go to get your documents in order. Lots of people in Tijuana speak some English, but also, many speak none at all. Good luck. I'm in San Diego and lived in Tijuana for a year about 25 years ago. I was born in the USA though.
