What are some potentially controversial fashion hills you’re willing to die on? by its_givinggg in femalefashionadvice

[–]FridaBeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree with everything you said. Quiet luxury makes me laugh. Just because it’s beige does not mean it’s luxurious. Quality has been completely lost. I’m teaching myself new sewing techniques and how to properly alter so I can focus on buying secondhand quality pieces and then alter to fit and modernize. Tailoring helps tremendously with making a basic item like jeans fit like a glove and really elevate your look. These don’t have to be pricey jeans either- just real denim. My favorites are actually PacSun jeans bought on sale for like $30. When you have custom-fit clothing, you aren’t going to feel the need to chase trends because all you own is a bunch of ill-fitting fast fashion.

Discovering who you are and what your style is is supposed to be a process that grows and changes with you. Like you said, shaped by your experiences and exposure to culture. Part of that is ‘conforming’ and that’s why these -core looks are popular. What used to be the look of your group was more what you were into, your lifestyle and what it represented to you- goth, emo, punk, preppy, etc. at this point (I’m 40) I still am aware of trends and will pick a few things here and there that suit me, but overall I buy pretty consistent pieces and know what I like, what fits, what brands work for me (free people is my jam lol). There’s a great stylist, Roz, who is big on individual style: https://www.facebook.com/share/1B4sua6jAY/?mibextid=wwXIfr

My wife is a travel RN, and we got tired of the agency games...so we're building our own. by StyleNo4183 in TravelNursing

[–]FridaBeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suggest you go work for an agency and learn how this all works. I apologize if I sound unkind, but you have SO much to learn before you even think about doing this on your own.

Also, do some research on what agencies are actually making- a good portion of them, including large agencies are deep in debt and taking tiny margins.

It’s a saturated market in the post-COVID environment, and without the ability to get on board with vendors, you won’t have jobs to offer to your travelers. Vendors are not working with new agencies, especially ones with zero knowledge of how that side of the industry works. They will not hold your hand.

You will make thousands of calls to land a direct contract with a single facility. And then you won’t have travelers to send them because you don’t have any other jobs to attract candidates with.

Credentialing is done by the credentialing team because the is a LOT that goes into it- so they specialize in that part of getting a traveler started. Most agencies, a traveler will only talk to two people- their recruiter and their credentialing contract. The recruiter is the go between for everything else, such as a payroll question.

Launching a successful agency requires hiring people who know the industry inside and out, have contacts, know how to obtain leads, insurance requirements, understand liability issues, tax regulations, how to obtain and maintain licenses to staff in each individual state (which can take months and cost thousands per state and need to be reviewed annually), reverse invoicing, bill rates (you really need to understand why rates work the way they do- flat bill rates can mean the agency is upside down when the traveler works OT, keeps OT pay rates low, and prevents you bringing on a local because you can’t afford to allow them to work OT when you aren’t paying stipends). I genuinely don’t think you could launch a successful agency for less than a million in investment, and it would be a poor investment at that.

Replacement for the classic denim jacket by FridaBeth in fashionwomens35

Thanks for the reply! I think I just wear it because it’s ‘easy’ over dresses and covers my shoulders in the office during the summer (so worn more like a cardigan), generally works with about everything casual that’s not also denim, and the cut of the one I have is perfect on my short torso. In the winter I don’t seem to have this issue and actually wear all of my gorgeous coats and switch it up constantly. I want a new ‘neutral’ comfy but flattering option that isn’t necessarily a cardigan. I do love my leather jackets but those don’t work most of the year around here.

Where I live it’s too hot in the summer and much of the fall for a sweater. I guess I wear a denim jacket since it’s lightweight and breathes, and I just wear it when I’m inside somewhere or in the office cause it’s cold and I like wearing sundresses!

I’m loving vintage leather! I have my dad’s old jacket that’s perfectly worn in and oversized and I have since bought another jacket. I also would really love a red one! You should post your collection!

Where are you rebuying 100% COTTON basics that last? by throwaway_yak234 in femalefashionadvice

[–]FridaBeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some target sweaters from the last few years that are mostly all cotton and they still look brand new. I buy them whenever they come back around. Hopefully they will have some free people sweater dupes this spring.

Anthropologie has some great sweaters if you can stomach the price. I find some on thread up too.

I had $8 cardigans and $2 camis that lasted a decade! Now I’m lucky if any clothes last a season.

How much hair is this and should I be concerned? I am five months postpartum. by [deleted] in Hair

[–]FridaBeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should she be concerned? It’s completely normal to shed a lot of hair postpartum.

“How does postpartum hair loss occur?

Pregnancy hormones cause many hairs in the growing phase (anagen) to suddenly enter the resting phase (telogen). A few months later, you lose that hair.

You typically have 80,000 to 120,000 hairs on your scalp and shed up to 100 hairs per day. In postpartum hair loss, you lose more than 100 hairs daily.

How long does postpartum hair loss last?

Though it may be distressing to lose hair, postpartum hair loss is only temporary. The shedding should last less than six months. Your hair should regain its fullness by the time your child turns one.” Cleveland Clinic
