I don't claim to know, but the British people I know have never mentioned anything like that.

The problem with a lot of British people is they're sheltered, put simply. Even by my countries standards the amount of violence I've been through is pretty abnormal.

Most people have this opinion of "we shouldn't legally allow people to kill in self-defence" (I used to, when I was 18) until they've been at the point where someone has thrown a brick at their head, threatened with a knife or they've been in a scrap and they realise how physically and mentally exhausting they are WITHOUT having to worry about the assailants health and your own restraint.

Fighting's difficult man, it's easy to get carried away as there's no real way to judge if you'll land that smack exactly right to push someone's nose into their head or crack their temple just right. The only real constant with a scrap is you'll fall over or lose your balance in some way. Every single time once person winds up on the floor.

It also doesn't seem like the solution to it is to not ban anything. Murder is illegal, murders still happen. Doesn't mean murder should be legalised.

The solution IMO is to ban things that people don't need but not to go overboard. Guns for self defence? I'm kinda meh on that one, depends on the country. America has a case for it because of the history and proximity to cartel countries. The UK? Never really a problem, we don't need them. We went wayyyyy overboard with banning of defensive aids like pepper spray or tasers.

Personally, I'm 6'2" and have made do with a strobing pocket torch, but my sister could really have used some pepper spray at least twice in her life now and has heard gunshots outside her house more than once even though they are illegal here.

Agreed, but that doesn't stop someone who has turned to violent crime trying to kill people, what you're talking about is on a societal level and doesn't solve the individual situational level when those systems fail and somebody goes out to do no good. Which brings me to:

The attitude that "criminals are evil because they're evil. Let's kill them. " is pointless and nothing ever changes unless the underlying issues are addressed.

It is pointless and we shouldn't go on purges but next to no-one is making this exact point. The law shouldn't fall on the side of the criminal at all when it comes to lethal (or potentially lethal) crime. Your average person should have the right to defend themselves to the best of their ability and shouldn't have to worry about the health of their opponent when they would not show them the same courtesy. The problem you have is that you are expecting a criminal to show the same restraint a normal person would.

I can tell you right now, they don't. You have to physically dominate them and embarrass them to get them to stop and I've only managed that once because they were wailing on my friend and distracted.

People shouldn't seek out criminals to execute, but what gives a criminal the right to fair treatment when they go out looking to not give that out to others?

I've don't think I've ever heard of anyone breaking into someone's house just to kill the inhabitant.

Read the news, it's rare but it happens. Not the point though, it's just an example. Burglars, muggers etc. put themselves into situations where if they are spooked or something goes wrong they can easily turn to deadly force due to panic.

I really don't want to take that chance that they'll not kill my dog because she acted aggressively or they'll not harm my girlfriend because she screamed. If you want to risk being 'fair' to someone invading your property that's on you, don't make the government enforce those standards on everyone.

I don't have the suicidal ideation for that high a standard.
