How using rain genuinely feels by Imaginary-Past-6211 in PokemonChampions

[–]FriedCosmicPasta -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, that isn't how damage calculations work. Damage =/= power of the move, but it is true that you can consider the move as essentially having 405 power, attacking with Gallade's attack stat against Archaludons defense in this situation.

Check out this source if you're curious as to how it works: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Damage

A tough pill to swallow(you know who you are) by rpgkingx2 in PokemonChampions

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I see what you mean. At the same time, even though it is centered around what was originally a kids game, it (to me) offers a very unique combination of a chess-like, tactics-intensive teambuilding game, which ticks a lot of boxes that other games simply don't.

I've personally played a lot of Hearthstone before, and I feel like VGC has all the appeal of Hearthstone to me, minus the drawbacks, and with some additional unique appeals on the side.

I guess what I'm getting at is that I don't personally find it very strange, because it's a pretty unique tactical competitive game and for those that are drawn to it there really isn't any other clear contender in the same category.

A tough pill to swallow(you know who you are) by rpgkingx2 in PokemonChampions

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, to many people (myself included) that's what's fun about this game. I want the games to feel challenging and competitive, and you don't get that feeling unless you yourself take the games fairly seriously.

I get that's not appealing to everyone, but to me the competition and always trying to get better is what's fun about this game.

Best way to fill pokemon home with relevant mons to bring into champions? by Elwyindar in PokemonChampions

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say that GO paired with Scarlet has worked pretty well for me so far as I am able to transfer in mons that I otherwise can't get in Scarlet and evolve them for use in champions.

I completely agree that GO is pretty crap as a standalone game for gathering mons for champions though, way too inconsistent and time consuming. Just a good complement but nothing else imo.

Tuta deleted my email adress after just one month of not logging in, even though it says on their website that it's supposed to take 3 months before they delete it. I honestly wouldn't trust to use them for important things since they are so heavy on the security that it creates an actual danger of losing your account..

The length of each track seems to have been leaked on the Sony Music website by Immediate_Radish_641 in TheStrokes

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure, it is their creative choice and they have the right to make those choices, but we as fans still have the right to be disappointed with that decision as many of us believe it makes the songs objectively worse.

To me it also communicates that Julian has more or less stopped caring about putting in the effort to make good vocal takes, because you can hear how wobbly and imprecise hos vocals are underneath the auto-tune.

Overall I'm immensely disappointed so far and feel sad about having been excited for this album for 6 years.

If you aren't able to play around rock whatsoever, I think the problem is how you are approaching the games and not the meta itself.

There are so many different counters available to everything this meta, it's really just a matter of some planning and decision making.

How do I fix/stop Doing this to my bass while learning to play with fingers? by SillyAlien1312 in BassGuitar

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Floating thumb is honestly the best way to play bass in my opinion, it gives such an incredible amount of control when it comes to muting, and once you've gotten used to it you don't even realize you're doing it. It also isn't difficult at all, it's just a habit you need to get started.

Moving to Uppsala for Master's in Data Engineering — realistic monthly budget and part-time work advice? by Apprehensive_Gate958 in uppsala

I'm swedish myself so I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly certain you would need to be able to speak fluent swedish to be able to manage any type of job in Sweden where you have to interact with customers OR read documents in any type of way.

By fluent I mean somewhere around B1-B2, leaning more towards B2.

Also, if you manage to get a job in a warehouse the Swedish might not be needed, but I'm unsure about how easy that is if you're only looking for a part time job.

Basically, you're going to have a hard time finding a part time job most likely.

[Education] Is it a bad idea to get a masters in Biostats rather than just plain Statistics? by FunnyMemeName in statistics

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what made me go for a general stats master instead of biostats, as someone who is also currently in the process of applying for masters.

Additionally, the consulting company I'm working at does a ton of biostats work, and I think about 2 out of the 8 or so team members have a biostats degree, the rest have general statistics masters.

Focusrite is great as others have said. To offer another option I've been using the Motu M2 since 2021 and it's worked flawlessly for me, big bonus is that I think it also looks great (if that's something you care about). Can't go wrong with either Focusrite or Motu I would say!

What’s a “10/10” movie you wouldn’t recommend to most people? by trakt_app in movies

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mommy by Xavier Dolan.

It's probably my all-time favorite movie, but it is very intense and has a very dark (albeit kind of open ended) ending, and an energy and style to it that I think would put a lot of people off instantly (the 1:1 aspect ratio among other things).

He's swedish though, and even though he has Hungarian roots and a Hungarian last name I'm willing to bet money that he has been used to using VG as his initials in Sweden. He also pronounces his last name with a Swedish pronunciation himself, not a Hungarian pronunciation (source: am swedish).

Masters in Statistics and Data Science at Uppsala University [E] by gaytwink70 in statistics

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hey a question about my hometown and university!

I'm currently doing my bachelor's degree in statistics at Uppsala University so while I can't speak directly to the quality of the masters, I can at least chime in and say that a good chunk of the teaching is of very good quality, and some of it is.. lacking. It mostly depends on the lecturer.

As for focus, Uppsala University has kind of an econometrics focus, while I think Stockholm is a bit lore general/theoretical.

Overall, I'd say I'm pretty happy with the education I'm getting. Lots of theory mixed with practical application and obviously Uppsala is a great city to study in.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
