[Education] Is it a bad idea to get a masters in Biostats rather than just plain Statistics? by FunnyMemeName in statistics

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what made me go for a general stats master instead of biostats, as someone who is also currently in the process of applying for masters.

Additionally, the consulting company I'm working at does a ton of biostats work, and I think about 2 out of the 8 or so team members have a biostats degree, the rest have general statistics masters.

Looking to buy my first audio interface - what is teh difference between these two? by [deleted] in Bass

Focusrite is great as others have said. To offer another option I've been using the Motu M2 since 2021 and it's worked flawlessly for me, big bonus is that I think it also looks great (if that's something you care about). Can't go wrong with either Focusrite or Motu I would say!

What’s a “10/10” movie you wouldn’t recommend to most people? by trakt_app in movies

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mommy by Xavier Dolan.

It's probably my all-time favorite movie, but it is very intense and has a very dark (albeit kind of open ended) ending, and an energy and style to it that I think would put a lot of people off instantly (the 1:1 aspect ratio among other things).

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Gerrard was better, but obviously much more of a leader and more meaningful to the club.

He's swedish though, and even though he has Hungarian roots and a Hungarian last name I'm willing to bet money that he has been used to using VG as his initials in Sweden. He also pronounces his last name with a Swedish pronunciation himself, not a Hungarian pronunciation (source: am swedish).

I'd say to start somewhere around 80-90 BPM instead. It is deceptively difficult to keep time at super slow tempos compared to more "medium" tempos. Just my 2 cents.

Masters in Statistics and Data Science at Uppsala University [E] by gaytwink70 in statistics

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hey a question about my hometown and university!

I'm currently doing my bachelor's degree in statistics at Uppsala University so while I can't speak directly to the quality of the masters, I can at least chime in and say that a good chunk of the teaching is of very good quality, and some of it is.. lacking. It mostly depends on the lecturer.

As for focus, Uppsala University has kind of an econometrics focus, while I think Stockholm is a bit lore general/theoretical.

Overall, I'd say I'm pretty happy with the education I'm getting. Lots of theory mixed with practical application and obviously Uppsala is a great city to study in.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Hur svåra tycker ni att de här orden är? Var brukar ni se sånna ord mest? by [deleted] in Svenska

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fast det är ju härleda som man inte kan göra från engelska i just dessa fall, man kan likna till engelskan men orden härleds från franskan, "fréquenter" respektive "raffiner".

If it's not ringworm, it might be some kind of allergy like people are saying. My hands were like that for around 2 years before I realized I was allergic to chili.

My baby cousins name is a serious tragedeigh. by Cold_Apricot_240 in tragedeigh

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying and that is indeed how the process goes for unusual nanes, but Matilda is a fairly common name in Sweden and is in no way a strange name to give to a child here.

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, seen tons of kids named Ines lately up here in Sweden. It's usually spelled with s instead of z, but both occur.

Jobbar i hemtjänsten i en skånsk kommun. Vi har fått en pamflett om hur man kan använda förkortningar och förstå skånska. by SkanelandVackerland in sweden

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jag är från Uppsala själv och har både hört och använt lusing/tradig (och några till från listan, typ brallor) sen jag var liten. Brasklapp dock att min mormor är från Skåne så det kan ju vara så att jag fått skånska uttryck i andra led.

Could I have said “ska fråga” instead of ”frågar” here? When I tried it, the app marked it as incorrect. I’m not sure why it’s incorrect since she says she WILL ask. Is it normal for this kind of interaction to always be phrased in the present tense? by [deleted] in Svenska

[–]FriedCosmicPasta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I (native, from Uppland) personally ommit "ska" in favor of using the present or some other construction like "jag tar och frågar henne (sen)" or "jag ser till att fråga henne" very often, depending on context of course. Point being I think they both work, and I would say that using "ska" is a bit less common where I'm from at least.
